There's nothing implying he wants to teach his skills to another person with the Hero's Spirit. He just wanted to pass his skills down to anyone competent enough to learn them, but apparently such techniques are so complex he couldn't find an apprentice.
Which is silly, because those techniques aren't difficult to pull off for a trained swordsman at all.

As long as it lasts the game out, yeah. Or a game series with clear prequels / sequels, even. You know, unlike Mass Effect. The Zelda games don't really line up like that, though, so I don't care if TP has a completely different world to TWW - despite being the chronological sequel.
I never find myself thinking "What would Link do next?", since every game is its own adventure. So for me, they might as well have left the timeline theories alone. It won't exactly hurt their sales, and people are still making theories about it, despite having the official explanation. Mostly because that explanation isn't very coherent.

Personally, I like it when everything ties together. It makes a universe feel more real and alive, if you know what I mean. Like, knowing X years ago something happened which influenced modern day events, or how the events we play out now will irreversibly change the course of the future. Stuff like that is real neato, especially when there are callbacks and stuff. A good example of what I'm talking about is Tolkien's stuff, where the universe exists far beyond (and behind) the Ring trilogy. It definitely immerses you in the universe and makes it fun to connect all the dots together. I'd wager I'm not alone in this either, as Star Wars is another franchise with a fanbase dedicated to exploring its rich history.
That said, I do agree that when it's done poorly, like when Anouma took over the Zelda franchise, that it's unnecessary.
Would anyone on /v/ want a Zelda anime if it adapted every game perfectly and even fixed some things regarding plot?
