Not all art is pleasant, it can feature a wide range of emotions, including negative ones, anyone who at least took basic art classes knows this. Sometimes art can even pop up from absurdly terrible things, like loss edits and dick jokes.
That said, like any medium, video games have the capacity to perhaps be art- But under no circumstances do they HAVE to be.

Some of them can be, the issue here is that people are FORCING them to be their definition of art meant for other mediums. They try to force it into a narrative and static definition instead of allowing the creation of it's own natural definition that takes into account what makes a video game so different from other mediums.
These faggots try to make 'muh deep art' with the wrong medium, like trying to use a canvas for movie production, and yet they have the gall to blame the medium instead of their own shallow views on what they can and cannot do, and instead of growing as a person they drag down everyone else to their level.
