Why would I play a game to play as boring fucking historic figures and plain looking asian men? That's as generic as it can fucking get.
Take it a step further and have me be a fucking rainbow giraffe riding on a ferris wheel for fucks sake. I get one edition that appeals to that historic theme, but all of them? Hyrule warriors is miles better after a load of that shit.
I actually give a fuck about the characters in Hyrule Warriors. I couldn't give two shits about some weird reinterpretation of characters from Chinese history. I played a few of the earlier Dynasty Warriors games. They were alright.
But the series lost me when they kept reusing the same stages over and over and over, and instead of giving new characters interesting fighting styles with interesting weapons, they started adding wacky as fuck weapons. Like stuff that makes no sense at all. Less sense than a magical harp.
It's not that Dynasty Warriors sucked originally. They just didn't seem inclined to add enough new stuff with each iteration. I'd play a new one for a while and feel like I'd already played it before.
If Hyrule Warriors made more than half a dozen sequels that were basically the same game as the ones before it, I'd pass on it too. But for now it's really fun, has tons and tons of content, and I like the characters.
But Eastern Asian Genocide is plenty fun. Especially Muh OC's Eastern Asian Genocide
It looks visually pleasing. Also brand familiarity.
One of the only reasons I enjoyed the Fist of the North Star game.

Nintendo didn't even develop Hyrule Warriors. Koei Tecmo did. They're the ones who went to Nintendo to ask to use Zelda, and they also published the game in Japan instead of Nintendo.

Hokuto 2 was not only a massive improvement from the original Hokuto 2, it was a generally good Hokuto game. Impressively large cast (Not One PIece's level, but still good), completely varied movesets, combat was actually fast (Unlike in the original Hokuto where everyone except for Rei was a slug), and the fights in general were great.
Battride War 2, while good, lacks a lot of variety in characters. The various different forms are mediocrely different, and most of the super forms aren't even well-made. Like OOO's PuToTyra form has three attacks: PU TO TYRA HISSSSSSATSU, ice, and flying around like a tard. Also, it had a seriously bad case like Hokuto 1 of constantly having bosses that are very obviously capable of being playable characters but aren't ever used. Like Caucusus and the more humanoid antags like Daguva. Also very few secondary Riders.

Not quite the same. The Saint Seiya game is more akin to classic beatemups. There's no "bases" to capture, there's no free moving, instead you advance through a linear path stopping every so often to clear groups of enemies, ala Final Fight. The groups are large though, but not DW-large.

Having played both the Zelda one is a good deal more refined.
Weapons wise Zelda has a pathetic 20 or so compared to the 70 in DW but it does help make them feel more individual and every one has some sort of neat trick. Most in DW feel very similar.
No horses is something I prefer, it just makes pacing smother not having to wait for it.
Biggest thing is the lock on and lack of the earth/heaven/man weapon thing. It makes officers actually fun to fight.

The combat was just tedius as fuck. What's the point of a musou where you can only attack one enemy at a time? I'm a huge HnK fan too. Some more fanservice could easily have propped the game up, but it used none of the manga's locales (everything was dusty corridors holy shit,) the side characters had next to no presence, fuck the mooks didn't even explode properly, their models just distorted, like a glitched game. Shitty as fuck music too. I would have carried on if they were playing that kickin orchestral version of You wa Shock that plays in the anime.

Really, to be honest, DW is endearing because the history isn't as important. The character types are all pretty damn universal. Only a very few are all that anime-y, and you can get sucked into the chivalrous manly war between great leaders, daring generals, mighty warriors, brilliant tacticians, and virtuous maidens without even having to catch up too much with names.Nothing important happens after Chi Bi though.

Basara is alright. The gameplay mechanics are all better but it fucks up with the DMC3/4 problem writ large. You got all these combos and all their good for is masturbation on HP soak weak ass enemies. But even then Basara high level gameplay takes away all the combos and just makes you parry bosses and cheese mooks. They somehow find high level gameplay WORSE than musou's awful high-end.
