I just finished The Vanishing of Ethan Carter yesterday
It's like Dear Esther but with actual gameplay (although you'll be walking/running a lot too) and story

Gone Home.

It's shit sure, but from a storytelling by the environment point of view, it's pretty good.

Good concept. Shit story.

Yes, if I remember correctly it's the sister's room that the game sort of pushes you to as your final goal

No, Something called Tension.

The Void is a remake of Tension m8
>>
>>266597789

Siren was pretty fun.
>>
>>266600569

But the story itself is poorly written drivel.

Not to mention that there's nothing novel about it's method of delivery. Have you never played resident evil, silent hill, or metroid prime, or even bethesda's gamebryo shit?

>Hey, let's take the "notes left behind to piece together the story" thing that videogames have been doing for actual decades and make that the ENTIRE GAME, despite the fact that none of us even know how to write.

All games are "an experience". Everything you EXPERIENCE in life IS AN EXPERIENCE. I know using words properly is hard, but please try harder.

If you liked the Void, which I assume you do after including it in the OP, there's always Pathologic, if you either can stand the translation, or you can wait two years for the remake to come out.

>storytelling by the environment

literally none of the story is told to you by the environment. all of it is told to you via classical text exposition.
>>
>>266602354

He's probably talking about 90's pop culture shit in the house, which is setting, not story.
>>
>>266600901
this. it's basically what Silent Hill should have been.
the writing is great and handles mature themes better than most other videogames. it's the first 2D game that has actually startled me.
though the voice acting makes Oblivion sound good in some places.
>>
>>266602530

Oblivion's voice acting isn't too bad, the problem is that they had so few voice actors.

To me:

>Journey

true. i'm bad at comparisons. some of TCL's characters sound as if they are speaking in a telephone at some places. it's especially bad with the nurse in the beginning.

What the fuck? I tried The Cat Lady, and it is utter garbage designed for edgy suicidal emokids. Seriously, art is bad and feels just lazy, story is a joke, and i don't even want to talk about gameplay. And music too, fucking poor man's Linkin Park, i hate Linkin Park.

Zeno Clash 2 kinda fucked up though.

Me too. I played up until she met the spooky old woman and it just seemed like standard spooky shenanigans. It'd help if the engine wasn't a fucking catastrophe that only ran in like one resolution.

I'm all ears if somebody wants to tell me it gets better.

i don't understand what's so bad about Dear Esther. i'm not trolling. it presents itself as a walking simulator and that's what it is and what i got. i liked its eerie atmosphere and the writing was pretty interesting. the narrator did a good job and the designs are great. it put an incredible effort in making a believable island. i had to stop at every twelve seconds just to admire the surroundings.
for what it is, it does great.
the most common complaint i see is:
>b-b-but it's too slow and there aren't any enemies!
that's like complaining that a FPS is too action-packed and twitchy. i suggest you go kill yourself.

This. Deadly Premonition wasn't even meant to have any combat in it and only had it shoved in last second by the publisher. The entire game is just 'an experience' but still manages to be a video game and not a fucking slideshow or walking through some 'meaningful' scenery for 3 hours.
>>
>>266616483

>got it on Steam
>try playing it
>crashes at startup
>have to reinstall PhysX
>start playing it
>it stutters every 5 seconds

No why
>>
>>266616483
Shit, that must be why I didn't like the combat. Too bad I didn't manage to complete it due to gamebreaking bugs. I really liked what I played though!
