I'm about to 100% Pikmin 2 after Pikmin, amazing ride, loved both of them.
Problem is, I want more but I won't be getting Pikmin 3 and a WiiU for a while, is there any other similar game about guiding an army of small creatures in a scaled up real world, possibly with some resource management thrown in?
The closest thing I can think of is Lemmings.

Olimar wasn't nerfed that bad. The worst things that happened to him were a slight range nerf on his fsmash and he no longer has armor on the whistle.
Even if he's not as good as Brawl he'll probably still end up around the middle in character quality.
And if he's actually really bad, then you get to show your Pikmin spirit by managing to play as one of the worst characters in the game.

The Wonderful 101 is pretty reminiscent of Pikmin, but that's a Wii U exclusive. I'd keep it in mind for when you do eventually get one.

Try the Overlord series, it's like Pikmin but in third person and with some RPG elements and a morality system.
It's more of it's own thing, but the whole concept of guiding an army of creatures with different skills is there. Also you play as a badass looking evil overlord and rape and plunder the shit out of everything.

to respond your question op, you could try Little King Story if you have a Wii. It's basically Pikmin in the combat and exploration part, tied to a life/construction and management simulator of your role as a king, building stuff, gathering gold, killing other kings and building a literal harem for all the princess you gather. It's a great game.
