Was this guy only a bad guy in the us cartoon? Did he have free will and left Dr. Light? If he's so powerful, why did he leave saving the world to mega man?
>>
>>261865718

Dr. Light, repaired by Wily
>>
>>261866593
Proto man was a prototype (get it) for mega man that light had abandoned for being defective
>>
The archie comic can be hit or miss, but the Protoman moments are god tier right in the feels bro moments.
>>
>>261865718

If I remember right, in the US cartoon he was pretty much completely built by WIly so he was evil. But in the games he's more of an anti-hero. Or just a hero that doesn't want to be in the spotlight.

His core was fucked up because he was a prototype, and because of that it gave him freewill. When Light tried to replace it, Proto thought it would take away his free will so he ran away. Eventually it fucked his body up really bad and Wily repaired him. So that's why he worked for Wily as Breakman for a couple of games.
>>
>>261866917
Seriously, why the fuck is Dr. Light such a fucking retard. He's like a supervillain that thinks he's a hero.

So there's a shitty Protoman band, and a mediocre Mega Man band.

He was basically just Break Man, but for future games so Protoman could be a hero.

How exactly is this in any way different? Mechanaloids and Robot Masters are susceptible to the Maverick Virus and its precursors.

Tell me right now how anything would have turned out better if the Maverick Virus had an outbreak and there were simply more prevelant than in MM10, and no one had already figured out a cure?
>>
>>261873002
Exactly. And if X never got the chip then Cain probably wouldn't have come as close to making those shitty flawed copies.

>>261873010
Original Mega Man and Protoman had 'free will' to the degree that they had to follow whatever their programming told them to do and anything that didn't step over those bounds.

X has entire free will. Meaning he can tell any human to fuck off if he wanted.

>>261873062
For Light, yeah. But if he hadn't had researched and developed the chip then none of that shit would have gone down.

They have wills, they make their own choices. But only within the confines of their program. Even if that is suitably humanlike; it's not free will.

They can make decisions on their own, but their moral compasses are pre-programmed. Rock will always choose to be the hero, how he saves the day is up to him, but he has no choice but to decide to save it.

No, Protoman does have free will due to his defective reactor. Even after Wily fixed it, he let him keep it for whatever reason. Rock was built without any defects, so he has no free will.

I think Sakurai is the first developer to show that in a neat way. Mega Man's deadpan expression in Smash really drives home that he's a robot, and not an feeling and thinking machine like X.
>>
>>261874587
Quantum processes are "random", anon, which would mean the universe isn't deterministic.

It hasn't been PROVED to be non-deterministic, maybe it's just unpredictable, but it's literally unprovable so there's no easy answer to Free Will vs Determinism.

And it matters a lot, or people wouldn't care so much.

Because Light was a hopeless optimist, and he genuinely thought robots could coexist with humans and make the world a better place.

Larger level physics are literally quantum physics at a larger scale, anon. The only reason is that the probabilities quickly become irrelevant (but don't disappear) as the scale grows and the scenarios get more complex.

There's free will if consciousness has ANY quantum element that "we" have power over. But that would basically mean we have a soul.

Protoman left Dr Light's lab because he was scared and wanted to preserve his own wellbeing. Despite it leading to his powerdown. Protoman joined Dr Wily's asteroid assault team because it suited his interests to meet his younger brother he'd only just heard of in combat.
He decided to help aforementioned younger brother because it suited his interests. Kinship or nepotism couldn't have been a directive before Light considered making other Robot Masters.
Yet Protoman resisted an offer to be repaired by Dr Light some time later, because he felt obligated to his suffering, then later acquiesced at the behest of Mega Man.
That despite the fact both of them once fought each other just for the sake of the fight.

Mega Man isn't an automaton either. He does shit because he wants to. He lives at Dr Light's house with him and Roll because he wants to, despite being given a chance to travel space and spread justice the universe over.
Mega Man requested to change his occupation from "Lab assistant" to "Super Fighting Robot".
He actually does call Wily out on his bullshit fake apologies on repeat occasions.
However has disobeyed orders. Going after Dr Wily despite Dr Light begging him not to, and yet willfully walked into a trap with a fake Light, aware of it, just because he was unwilling to take the risk it might not be.

Yet NONE OF THAT is proof of free will. That's just proof they're both operationally sentient. Which just means they can react to stimulation.
>>
>>261877296

>>261876623
>>261876634
>>261877249
Let me hold your hands as I walk you through this.
Look both ways, you stupid shits.

Light made the free will chip for X.
Light did this KNOWING that robots have a long history of being complete fuckups, especially if THEY AREN'T MADE BY HIM.
Despite knowing full and well people will most likely attempt to copy this technology (since everyone does it when something new comes out), he does it anyway because 'muh son'.
Mr. Fuckup #2 comes along and makes piss-poor copies of X's chip.
They both are massive fuckups and have ruined the future. Light moreso than Cain because he has dealt with the shit over and over and over and over again, knowing very well the consequences of his actions while Cain was just hopeful that he knew more than an irrelevant idiot.
This is all Light's fault, because if he had not even invented the chip, Cain wouldn't have gotten the inspiration to make his own and the Mavericks wouldn't have gone wild.

Good intentions or not, this all stems from Dr. Light making it.

No. His broken reactor didn't give him free will or otherwise change what he was capable of.

No, if you watch day of ? you'll see that reploids went nuts way before that. This was the reason why the maverick hunters were founded in the first place.

This is common sense.
Whenever someone invents a new machine or tool, someone will copy its design and modify it to their own ends.

It was the free will chip that ensured they could kill people freely and step out of bounds of what their programming would have restricted otherwise.

I'll accept that Light is naive, but you're just moving the burden of guilt. Light had no idea that there would not be anyone in the future capable of doing jack with his technology. He had no idea that the guy who would find X would be some fucking archeologist. And there'd be no way for him to know that someone unqualified would try to copy his technology.

Light did the work to make sure X wouldn't fuck up. If you build a computer, and then someone else tries to build a computer based off of yours and gets electrocuted because they fucked it up, is that your fault? No. It's their fault because they fucked it up. Light's responsibility for the Mavericks begins and ends with X. Everything else is on Cain and Wily.
>>
>>261878076

If I remember right, Wily is kind of shit with robotic hardware. He was the programming genius. So it's believable that if Protoman's entire energy system is fucked, he wouldn't be able to fix it. All he really did was slap a bandaid on it. It was still enough to earn Proto's gratitude and get him to work for him as Breakman.

It's his fault for inventing something like that in the first place when there was no good that could have come from making something so dangerous.

What >>261878385 was saying. Sigma was the leader of the maverick hunters, but then they ran into Zero. Zero was the one who infected Sigma, who I think was the first reploid Cain built modeled on X. The virus changed in Sigma to become the Sigma Virus, which is a different and more powerful virus than the Maverick.

I think Sigma/Zero virus causes the maverick virus though.

Major headcanon here:
Protoman was thankful, but quickly realized Wily was insane and vowed to stop him while pretending to aid him. He was still bitter toward light and chose not to tell him, but he was curious as to the potential of his "replacement" and so tested his skills when he could, it helped that these fights helped him sell his cover.
>>
>>261878967

Hard Man wasn't doing shit either. He was retired. Really all of the robot masters in HR-R didn't ask for it.

I think it made it more interesting. Mega man talks about fighitng for peace and justice, and his conflicted feeling. But when you see him from the point of view of the RMs, here's a relentless murder machine. Hell, Quickman just calls him Death.
>>
>>261876634
As an aside; I'd like to mention the Wheel is much much more recent a development than you seem to think it is.

The wheel is newer than writing, distillation, shipwrighting, permanent housing, coins, monotheism, the pyramids, crop rotation, bronze, swords, antibiotics, and the twogirlthreeway.

Jesus FUCK do you even hear yourself? Ok fine then. Henry Ford is the greatest villain in the world since his invention led to untold deaths and opened the floodgates for several tragedies and accidents. The Wright Brothers are also indirectly responsible for 9/11. The first men who began the bronze age is also indirectly responsible for the murder of everyone killed with a metallic thing. Except because that's fucking stupid. Light's invention worked. Light's invention worked well. It did EXACTLY what it was intended to do. Dr. Cain attempted to repeat Light's success and fucked up. So Dr. Cain is the one who fucked up and can be blamed for it. Stop being stupid.

Yeah, Quick and the Blue was the one that really got me into the Megas in the first place, and it was pretty fucking heavy.

But in HR:R atleast Hardman went out the way he wanted to, even had a crowd begging him not to, but Needle Man was actually better off doing Suicide by Mega and well, Shadow was all sorts of fucked up.

>no good that could have come from that

That's not how Light saw it. He made X for the same reason he made Blues, Rock and Roll. He wanted to make robots that could live with humans and help them. He created X to be someone that could help the entire world move into a golden age and carry his dream far beyond a human's lifespan, if that's what he chose to do.

It's like deciding to not make the lightbulb because someone later on may make the electric chair. But we're also forgetting that X is equipped with weaponry, and the capsules throughout the games. Light was an optimist, but he wasn't a complete idiot. He had fail safes in the event something went to shit, which it did.

That's demonstrably false. Wily has stolen Light's robots and designs repeatedly. In the case of Bass he made a complete schematic copy of Mega Man to use his upgrades. Because he specifically couldn't conceive of anything that could counteract the power adapter.

At best Wily is highly efficient at reprogramming, proficient enough at engineering to reproduce much of anything, and lucky enough to have resources to perform the former, and superpowerful power sources to reverse engineer drop in his lap.

Cars and sentient robots are different, believe it or not.
People who operate cars get killed, while robots who act on their own free will kill humans.
Henry Ford invented a machine based off of the carriage without the need of horses. Light created a chip that gave robots free will when they didn't need it.

Light had no good reason to create it, and he was well aware of how unstable robots and inventors with ambition were.

With Magnet Man, I think he was doing his own thing. Mega Man just came down on him like a ton of bricks because he was a robot built by Wily. What he had been doing, and his relationship with Roll didn't matter.

That's just what I picked up on it. Roll telling him her brother wanted him dead was her answer. So I thought that's what it was implied. She left because Rock wanted him dead, and it wasn't that he wanted him dead because he was with Roll. It's still cold as fuck

And X did exactly that. He assisted humans at every turn. He did exactly what he was built for. Dr. Cain said "shit man I bet I could do that" but fucked it up. Dr. Light's proof of concept did work. But Dr. Cain did not put the same effort into his derivatives. You're basically ignoring Dr. Cain building a swingset but not reading the fucking manual and coming up with a bunch of "spare pieces" at the end of the project. And then when little Sally Sue breaks her arm because the thing broke you say that Light is indirectly responsible.

Reploids were given free will, and some were criminals. This was inevitable without Light's extreme testing and care put into their designs. Cain's crappy copying made them susceptible to viruses and glitchy.

But it didn't ruin the world. Wily's Maverick Virus was the biggest obstacle to Reploids and humans living in peace, and despite several apocalyptic plans caused by him infecting Sigma, his influence still eventually ended. From Mega Man Zero on, all the problems are caused by Weil, and by ZX Reploids and Humans have actually become BETTER than the world Light had imagined. Light didn't do much villainous at all.

They say this but all the robot masters have shown not only emotion(Which could be simulated) But they have the ability to see their own actions for what they are and resist their programming to an extent.

Spark Man is a big guy.

Magnet, Quick, All of HR:R
And I can't help but shake the feeling that Wily died once Gamma was destroyed in that massive explosion so lets add that to the mix

Ordered this bad boy new. I guess people didn't think it was hot shit.

So just how 'bad' was X3 on the Playstation?
Post comparisons to the SNES version if you got em.

Flash Man, all he wanted was to be with his hero, dammit.
>>
>>261884639
Flash was a deranged pervert who wanted to keep his husbano in suspended animation for all of time.

megaman reboot time
capcom put you in charge
only catch is it has to be a genre that megaman has never been before
what is it?

>It was like flipping a switch

>>261884604
I thought it was more or less implied, not only in the game but in the song.
>You were torn between the hero and your fear
Sort of like Mega Man was rummaging through the wreckage while everything is collapsing around him, gets knocked out and Protoman drags him out

It's pretty much just X3 but with shitty anime cutscenes.

It's not like the Final Fantasy ports or anything.

Wasn't Make Your Choice and I Refuse To Believe after Gamma Unchained? That's what I assumed at least. They're going back and forth over whether or not to kill Wily, so I assume he survived after Gamma is destroyed.

Light was apparently dead too

Pretty much. Dude was hella gay, yo.

>has no problem killing robot masters just because they were made by wily

>doesn't kill wily

Protomen's megaman/protoman fucked up by not planning any of their shit and just charging into the streets shooting shit up, then expecting hapless bystanders who have already grown up living in fear to throw their lives away.

It's a little more understandable during the standoff but otherwise if you're going to get groceries and some killer robot starts blowing up all the security bots nearby, you aren't gonna give your life to help it especially when it starts losing.

I thought refuse to believe followed immediately after Make your choice and then led into the battle with gamma.

3D RPG. No party members, just Mega Man. It's a remake of the first game. As you go through expanded stages which are now regions, you get XP to spend on your Mega Buster. When you beat a RM you acquire their ability too, and can upgrade it as you get more XP.

Well, they can and often are rebuilt without too much hassle AND at one point they were carrying a virus to turn him evil.
>>

Gamma unchained was about Wily reprogramming Gamma, not the battle with him.
