Is there any decent RTS that came out relatively recently? I mean like. Post SC2. I've tried Planetary annhialation but it's not that great, at least not right now. I'm currently playing SC2 high gold as random. I'd really like some suggestions on other titles to take a look on, preferably with online communities that's semi-alive.

What is that game that allows you to play as a King, duke, etc. with heirs and shit?

Its based in europe when the holy roman empire is around. I want to play that one really bad.

Depends on which race you're up against but generally you want to make marines/upgrade marines/get 3-5 medivacs. Always build an expansion in your base and fly them out when you get an oppurtunity. As soon as one finishes, build a new one. Ravens are seriously good, get at least one for those point defense drones. Oh, and if you play against protoss: get combat shields before stim of you're planning on an early attack, a marine dies in 3 photon overcharge shots instead of 2.

DoW1 was amazing in it's day, and was spectacular eye candy, but it's aged like milk somehow.

DoW2 was a letdown for me, too much focus on managing ability cooldowns and mana pools, not enough of the CoH-style emphasis on positioning and outmaneuvering an opponent.
>>

WarGame: RedDragon but thats mostly RTT

I can't speak for any but supcom FA, and yes that game has aged BEAUTIFULLY. It still looks great and plays great. I would recommend downloading forged alliance forever, it essentially continued balancing and patching after gas powered games died. It also added more colors, 12 player maps, a lobby client for players and new/revamped Ai playstlyes. I don't see any issues with the way they're patching the game aside from considering an additional faction/ adding in tier 3 mobile AA
>>
>>261446514
I like that RTTs make terrain and positioning really meaningfull in combat, it's like they give you a tool box with a set of gameplay rules and then lets you freely develop a tactical approach, RTS are more restrained in that you must follow a build order and a set number of strategies to maximize economic output, this being the only effective way to guarantee a victory.
>>
>>261447028
>SupCom FA
Yes, it's only gotten better with time with all the awesome additions to the game that the community has come up with like Hotbuild, coop support for the campaigns and a metric assload of gameplay enhancements, both graphical and balance-wise.
Look up Forged Alliance Forever and download it off of there, it's by far the best way to play the game.

>Rise of Nations
Aside from the online being dead thanks to Gamespy doing belly up the game has aged like wine and you shouldn't encounter any issues playing it on a modern computer what so ever.

>Earth 2150
This one hasn't aged all that well in my opinion, the pathfinding was bad on release and these days it's bad enough to make it near unplayable in my book.

>Empire Earth
See above, the pathfinding is atrocious and skirmish really isn't anywhere near as fun as I remember it being. Campaigns are still awesome as hell though.

>Favorite strategies
In Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion.
One planet, one fleet. Everything else is destroyed.

The Vasari Loyalist's ability to completely drain planets of their resources and then destroy them goes around upkeep, letting you max out fleet size easily and makes it to your enemies can't retake planets. Plus having everything on your fleet makes you invincible as long as your Titan is still alive.

It's risky, because once you run out of money you're done, but it's super effective as a late game strategy.

My negros, I've been playing on and off since the game launched back in '07 and I swear the game just keeps getting better and better after FAF took over for GPGNet as the main method of playing online. So much great shit has been added to the game it's ridiculous.

Just look up a replay with RK's explosions enabled too see how good the game looks these days.

>>261448287
Not him, but as nice as it is to see RoN getting a remake the online community was basically DoA. Last time I looked I saw like three games being hosted online. I really wouldn't recommend buying it to play it online with anyone other than friends, LAN support is still in thankfully, unlike the remake of Age of Empires 2.

That's a shame anon, I really wish Supcom wasn't single threaded. If there was any way at all to squeeze something like the pathfinding onto a secondary thread the game would be pretty much playable on any toaster out there.

Sadly that would require access to the source code of the engine.

Generalized upgrades rather than for specific units. Like all ground tanks now have some god awful AA. Or better yet make experimentals feel more like experimental units rather than t4 and have them be as customizable as Coms. Preferably Black Ops mod coms.

Like Rangers got nerf'd into oblivion, not sure why but Germans could get KnightsCross Full vet and have fucking super soldiers.
>>
>>261450624
>Generalized upgrades rather than for specific units
I think a mix of both could be really cool. Like making the EMP stun of the medusa be an upgrade you have to research, or increasing the effective range of decievers for example. Perhaps an upgrade that adds a new weapon to a unit as well, like giving titans back the missile launcher on their backs that they used to have back in the closed betas.

>>
>>261451656
Better yet, upgrades for damage reduction towards arty so that not every endgame devolves into arty war even though that's what I personally love. Also, more turrets, loads more turrets. Only having 1 of each type of turret killed me in 2.

Besides being the only game in the C&C series for them to patch the fun out?

The lethality is low, the micro is weak because the units are so clunky, the braindead stripmining economy is boring and centralizing, and Avatar spam is overpowered to this day. Greg Black and Jason Bender were incompetent and no match for Dustin Browder, who designed Red Alert 2 and Generals. Those games were far more imbalanced but they were imbalanced in a much more interesting way.

>RTS
Man, coupled with TBS my favorite genre. Played the shit out of it ages ago. CnC, KKND, Earth 2140... good stuff.

I wonder does anybody here remember the name of a certain RTS, I only played a demo. By now it's probably a 14+ years old game.
The setting was underwater, slightly futuristic, it had pretty cool graphics and you could avoid incoming torpedoes by changing how deep were your units submerged, there were like 4-5 presets.

Harpoon?

Jane's Fleet Command?
>>
>>261439615
Two different genres, hard to compare them good-to-bad.

Singleplayer was unplayable, because the AI seemed to basically cheat, and see all my troop movements, and the multiplayer was annoying as fuck, made no sense, and everything I had died the moment I tried to use it, and every match seemed to boil down to either artillery spam, or some shit I didn't even understand.

Having to read trough over 100 page guide just to understand wtf is going on is rather unreasonably high requirement for partaking in multiplayer games, in my opinion.

Fuck that game. I regret spending money on it.

Supreme Commander 2, Rise of Nations, and Sins of a Solar Empire have great AI skirmish modes from my experience.

In RoN and SupCom 2, you're gonna need to tweak game settings a bit beforehand to get an optimal experience. Like turning off nukes in RoN if you're a beginner. Man, fuck nukes.

When I tried to ask advice on how to "git gud" at the game on /vg/, they pointed me to over 100 page guide for the game. Put me off from it pretty much immediately.
Also, it is the combination of both too much options and info, and too little explanation of what all that fucking info means, that puts me off the game, and makes it impossible to figure out how to effectively do anything, for me at least.

I mean, compare the game to supcom. There are tons of units in supcom (not as much as in AirlandBattle, but still reasonably many), and one could potentially get confused about all the options, however, each units has a clear description to it's role, be it light mobile artillery, scout, siege bot etc. Whereas ALB, if I recall correctly at least, just gives me a bunch of stats and no explanation to what they mean in practice, which basically means that I gotta test them out to see how they work, and invest shit tons of time to just figure out the basics, which I am unwilling to do. I got better things to do than spend my time getting curb stomped until I become even able to play the fucking game.

Good for you if you managed to get into it, in my case, the game, and my experiences with it and it's community, turned me off from it permanently.

If I want to see large scale battles, I can do that far, far better in Supcom, and derive far greater amounts of enjoyment from it, so why bother wasting shittons of time in a game that doesn't even bother trying to be accessible to newcomers, and just get angry and frustrated?

Ok, heres how you play, the game has a lot of units but a lot of the units do the same thing but some are better then others but the better ones cost more so you have to really learn how to make a cost effective but strong army and what to send out against what, thats basically the jist of the game.

And thank god it was cancelled. F2P is NOT a good subgenre for RTS.

Airland battle had a nearly unplayable campaign.
European escalation had a good campaigns if you like Sudden strike-like mechanics, although I've heard multiplayer patches screwed with balance.
Airland battle is sort of obsolete as far as I understand, since Red dragon is a go to for multiplayer and has the same TW style campaign system but more fixed.

I can't even remember that much of games that have more than 3 different factions, with only example being March of War TBS, which has like 6 factions, it seems to be not that horribly imbalanced, I think it just takes some time, nice community touch and dev who actually loves his own project.
