Sometimes he's a dick, sometimes he's not.

Like a lot of people, really.

>>261185075
Yes. Grey Wardens are the illuminati of dragon age and are behind everything
>>
It's kinda the point.

They are called "Grey" Wardens for a reason (it's like poetry, etc)
His actions and beliefs are morally grey in nature and revolve around making sure his order is ready to do what's necessary for the greater good, no matter the cost.
>>
>>261185665
And yet when Loghain does that, he's evil.
>>
>>261185369
Sounds like you like to be baby'd, anon.
>>
>>261185796
Loghain quit a battle, causing the deaths of thousands of people. There's a huge difference.
>>
>>261186098
So he could rule in place of a young and stupid king who would've probably led to more deaths seeking the ridiculous glory he dreamed about.
>>
>>261185995
>Sounds like you like to be baby'd, anon.
Naw, it sounds like I'm not an immoral faggot, who can into deeper reasoning.
>>
>>261185796
Loghain was just pissy about Orlesians helping with the Blight, no greater good there.
>>
>>261186247
>Deeper reasoning
>The end justifies the means
You can't get more shallow than your moral compass, stupid.
>>
>>261186232
He would have to face the Darkspawn sooner or later. Could have prevented a lot of later trouble and deaths if he defeated the Darkspawn army right there.

The only indication we get is that he was naive enough to want the glory of fighting Darkspawn. Nothing implies that he was outrightly stupid, or otherwise incompetent. He was just an idealistic young bro.
>>
>>261186232
good chance they would have won ostagar had he not pulled out

just because cailan wasnt that great doesnt mean its justified to let him and hundreds others die and expect the rest of the nation to bow down

>a huge, confirmed, Darkspawn army heading our way from the south-- already destroyed one village
>a band of faggots consisting of a betafag, a cunt, a chantry bitch, a drunken dwarf, an awkward qunari, a grandma, an elf (whom I hired to assassinate the warden-- and failed), a walking rock, and a fucking dog

>>
>>261186515
Loghain's fatal flaw was small thinking, that was the whole point, dummy.
>>
>>261186456
He was trying to sell out to the orlesians or something like that, like an arranged marriage. Loghain didn't take that too well
>>
>>261186098
Actually conversations between Wynne and Loghain reveal that the army was retreating long before Loghain left. Wynne even says all the mages were long gone before the King died.
>>
>>261186667
He was about to divorce Loghain's daughter and marry an Orlesian noble to cement the peace.

Loghain took issue.
>>
>>261186515
Well the band of faggots were the ones that took him down
>>
>>261186758
I thought it was the empress?
>>
>>261186667
Yep its revealed he was going to divorce Anora to marry the Empress of Orlais and making Fereldan part of Orlais again.
>>
>Kills a man when he refuses to drink the poison on the basis he has a wife and child.

This one really got me. That's like a frat killing a pledge for wanting to back out after seeing a fellow pledge get raped.
>>
>>261186448
Kohlberg's sense of morality was fucked to begin with. He assumed realizing each other's flaws bred universal understanding, without taking environment and experience into account.
>>

"Yeah man, this test is some bad shit, go home now if you don't want to be a grey warden, this is not for the faint of heart."
"Nah, I ain't a bitch"
Other guy drinks the poison and dies.
"Oh fuck, I want out"
"Nah man. I warned you, you had your chance. Sorry."

He had ample warning between all the fighting, the witches, the war happening. That guy was just a pussy.

I honestly couldn't tell if he was supposed to be a hypocritical psycho cunt or if the writers couldn't tell he sounds like one.

I mean he made Jory believe that he can just quit the wardens and go back to his family once the whole ordeal is over.
>>

the initiation is kept a strict secret since if it got out nobody would want to join, that being said I don't personally believe that's such a big deal, the knight fella was the only one to blubber about it, that noble thief guy knew what could happen and still decided to make it happen. then he died of course but still.

Mages are scum, of course they did.

Okay so the chantry thinks the taint came from when mages opened a portal to the golden city or whatever. What if that's half true? What it was that the mages attempting to find the golden city, simply opened a portal to a Lovecratian dimension and thats where the taint comes from?

tl;dr What if the taint is Cthulhu?

It is implied he had an affair with the Empress of Orlais, but not that he was going to marry her, if I recall correctly.

Cailan wasn't going to marry the Empress of Orlais. The alliance was just to secure heavier ties between Orlais and Ferelden and let the past go.

There was a subplot cut from the game in which Anora was unfaithful to Cailan, and that's why he wanted to diverce her, and look for another wife to give him an heir.

But Cailan wasn't going to marry the empress of Orlais

Because even the non-romanceable guys have to be LOLBROTIER and the romancable cunts have to be built around some dumbass quirk.

Aveline, Sister, Wynne was decently written I think, even if the preachy holier than thou mentor lady as been done to death, are among a few to name. ME1 Tali, though she didn't have much of a character at all.

They rebuilt my faith after Dragonborn.
If they could go back to higher level gear being extremely rare and expensive, kind of like Morrowind, I would have enjoyed Skyrim a lot more. Handplaced Daedric shit, hell even finding dwemer shit at the early levels always made me ecstatic.
I remember that one ruin where there was a room with a artifact shield, some daedric gear, and a bunch of daggers in skulls. Was cool as shit finding that room for the first time

Loghain did nothing wrong aside from not know that Gray Wardens were absolutely MANDATORY to end a Blight because LOLMAGIC. I mean, shit, MAYBE the little fucker would even win against the Darkspawn--unlikely, but maybe a MAGICAL MIRACLE HERO would show up and fuck Loghain's plans up and prove him wrong. Unlikely, but hey, it gave the kid a sporting chance instead of just assassinating him.

I mean, consider the following: Ferelden's young dumbshit King--who was married to Loghain's daughter, who was one actually running the Kingdom because the King was a dumbfuck--was sending god damned love letters to the Queen of Orlais--the fucking nation which was occupying Fereldan and who Loghain and the King's father spent their WHOLE LIVES fighting a guerrilla war against to drive out--because he was a stupid little piece of shit with a head full of romantic stories about make-believe knights and heroes.

Morrowind treasure hunting is fun as fuck. I recall finding a Nord tomb hidden in a Dunmer tomb, the location of which is vaguely given by a Nord you buy drinks for.

The place you mentioned is also indirectly mentioned in a book. It mentions a grand funeral where a lot of people got slaughtered at a deadric shrine, but there's nothing there. Then you look around and find the tomb outside where the treasure actually is.
>>
awful character but meant to be the wise hero, just another example of bioware writing
>>
>>261192909
That's how Blights usually go. They're snuffed out before they become a huge problem. That's the whole purpose of the Wardens, to kill the thing at the root before it becomes a country-wide and the world-wide problem.

Again, that's how they USUALLY go.

But Loghain didn't think it was an actual Blight, so he thought it wouldn't get much worse if they just left it alone. Basically, instead of cutting out the cancer when it was just a nasty lump, he let it metastasize.
>>
>>261193168
I know anon I've played it.
I actually like Morrigan for the most part, other then her occasional do senseless evil shit for the sake of doing evil sensless shit.
Like she can't understand pragmatism.
No I'm not helping the mages because I'm a normal faggot, I'm helping the mages because they're more versatile and useful in battle then the templars, because they can do defensive and offensive shit just as effectively.

I found it hilarious that a glitch made Wynne approve when I cuckolded that little elf bitch
>>
>>261193383
>>261192970
And the Wardens are so secretive thanks to their bullshit initiation secret that they can't even tell people WHY they're needed. Loghain would've had no idea what their skillsets actually were, or that they were necessary to kill archdemons because Bioware writing
>>
>>261193383
Actually this blight was the shortest one in history IIRC. Usually blights are drawn out affairs. I just wonder if Cailan and Loghain with Duncan could have ended the blight there and then had everything gone according the plan

Dude, everyone talks about how the king is a young naive idiot, even his wife admitted she did most of the actual ruling while he was basically a kid playing pretend.
>>
>>261186515
Loghain was always in denial of the darkspawn threat, since he grew up on years of peace when it came to them. His life revolved around threats of other people, not blighted monsters. He thought he was being realistic when it came to putting the potential Orlesian threat over a supposed Blight.

It's not that he's short sighted he was just raised on knowing a different kind of enemy his whole life. One that is constant and real, rather than one that pops every few hundred years or something.
>>
>>261193530
Morrigan only understands pragmatism in the most basic, unsocial maner.

Before playing the game i thought she would be manipulative and sly, but shes basically just a selfish ignorant barbarian because she was raised alone in the woods and doesnt understand social pragmatism.
>>
man, at the battle of Ostagar where were the mages anyways? You bring down some walking weapons of magical destruction from their tower, then not field them against the horde?
fuck, just have a couple mages cast Storm of The Century a few times and that whole darkspawn horde could have been cleared in minutes.

In DA2 that was kind of explained away. The reason everyone there is crazy, violent, and prone to blood magic is because it sits near the holding cell of one of the arch magisters who entered the golden city. Just being near him causes people near him to go mad.

A bullshit excuse but at least they did something to acknowledge "Hey, why the fuck is literally 99% of the mages here being retarded"

Fuck man, like I'm glad no one else really used Daedric in the game, but shit should not be that easy. Shit son, Daedric armor was a fucking quest to get itself in Morrowind if you didn't want to just murder Divayth mother fucking Fyr. Leave the final crafting at dragonbone and have daedric be some near mythic shit.
I was ok with weapons in morrowind not being as rare as armor, makes sense to me that people would have enough money/time to make one dagger or sword. But damn. I think Skyrims dungeons were better then most people make them out to be, but some damn handplaced loot, or the occasional snippet of some sort of fucking story about the dungeon would have been nice

there was also those codex entries about how the entire city was arranged into some giant rune fueled with blood of missing slaves for some magical reason. Best theory is the city was where they opened the portal to the Fade through sacrificing a shitload of slaves.
>>
>>261195876
I think innate elemental resistance or flat magical resistiance would have done the trick. Lookswise i think bone was just terrible. skin was decent. I liked the over the top edginess of Daedric armor if only because it felt like it fit lorewise, but was a bit dissapointed that the shoulders make you look weird as fuck if you wear it without a helmet
>>
>>261195996
I'm pretty sure he meant the armor, not weapons.
Weapons were much easier to get, because you could get them from Golden Saints and Dremora.

could say that about most of bioware games. Like, I love the setting of mass effect, cool universe and all, but what do we get from it? a shitty game with shitty endings or books where the cyborg ninja fucker breaks into a dudes house and eats his cereal.
>>
>>261195569
Hand placed loot is something they really need to go back to. To this day my favorite memory of playing Morrowind for the first time was being a good enough thief to sneak into the House vaults in Vivec. I was always curious what could be behind such heavily locked and guarded doors and i practically jizzed my pants when i saw all the ebony and glass armor and weapons.
>>
>>261196469
It's things like that that make me wonder if I could write fanfiction that's written better than the source material
>>
they really need to give up on 3d. i mean when we can get free-form environment destruction hell yes. but otherwise go 2d for style and presentation.
>>
>>261196567
The house vaults oh lawd.
The only issue I had with Morrowind is that it is a bit easy to exploit and break into shit like that sometimes.
Non-leveled shops were great too. I mean there was some high end gear sold in some places, but for the most part, even having full dwemer armor made you feel a bit seasoned in game
>>

I dunno, the Indian wars ended in 1890 and the Natives had no problems signing up with the American and Canadian government to fight the Nazis. Hell one of my grandfathers got drunk and was kicked out twice and both times he signed up with fake names to get back to the fighting. He eventually became a sniper and racked up enough kills to be hunted down and taken out by a countersniper, sad ending but the point is if the threat is big enough people will sign up with people who not that long ago were their enemy.
>>
>>261196859
The ease of breaking the game is part of the charm, but something i think is fine to move away from. I had no idea about all the broken shit i could do to make things way easier so actually getting to the rare items and finding them felt like a real accomplishment.

Problem is that writing codexes and shit is relativley easy. I want to be a fantasy writer, and I have pages upon pages of codex type entries on this vast world. But when I try to type up a coherent story on this world, it falls apart. I think the problem is that bioware is filled with people like me. Yeah they can make all these cool ideas and shit, but they can absolutely not apply it into a good narrative.

I guess I would describe it as just being idea men. You can't write a story or design a game with just idea men. Even worse is that it doesn't take a lot of talent to do that in any case, but most people feel it does.

I did the Harden quest to man Alistar up then made him marry Anora. I spared Loghain and let him kill the Archdemon then I went on to take command of the Grey Wardens in Ferelden and rebuild Amaranthine.
