I really enjoyed new n tasty as it was a new game and the possible rebirth of oddworld, and I've been a fan since it's begining. It's worth a play through as it is fun and pretty. I love the original more so but I still love this new one too. Plus ther effort and hard work is evident. I don't know any other dev team that's as nice and open as they are.

He has a full review of Abe's Oddessy, where he talks about everything from story, to game design, to development. The New N Tasty video is a comparison between Abe's Oddessy and the changes made for New N Tasy. It's not about telling you whether or not they're good games that you should buy, giving it an arbitrary score, it's about whether or not the Remake improved the game at all. He did the same for Wind Waker and Wind Waker HD.

He's not a buyer's guide critic. He only reviews a game or two a month and often not the big releases, but he goes way in depth. I never planned to buy NnT ever because I could tell by the trailers that it would be shit - I watched the video to get a better understanding of game design in general by listening to one person's very detailed, painstaking criticism. why does a prerendered 2d game look so pretty even compared to modern 3d games? And more importantly why dont more games use this sort of approach? painting shit and using technically incorrect lightning can have a much nicer effect

Because prerendered stuff heavily limits interactivity. Take the old resident evil games for instance. Anything that needed to be interactable needed to be modeled because you can't interact with a 2D background. In pseudo-3D games with prerendered backgrounds the camera also needs to be fixed (though you might be able to subvert this with fancy tricks) in order to sustain the illusion. Another thing is that prerendered things don't scale well. You can't just run a game with 2D backgrounds that were designed to be run at 480p or less at 1080p or higher without ruining the background quality. 3D games typically don't have any of these issues.
