There are some "real" games on smartphones, just beneath all of the mountains and mountains of shit.
On iOS, there's the Ace Attorney Trilogy, Dual Destinies, Ghost Trick, MonHun Freedom Unite, Cave's (expensive) shooters, Scribblenauts Remix, Sega has some great games like ChuChu Rocket and the Sonic smartphone remakes. Square Enix has a lot of amazing but way too overpriced games (the full FFIV DS remake comes to mind). Just try searching some real vidya companies and hopefully something decent will appear.

It's a little bit like the Rollercoaster Games, you have like a 100 years time to get enough citizens to move in. It's pretty addictive developing a populous city full of huge buildings after starting with a tiny farming town. The core strategy of placing the proper buildings together to create combos and intelligently managing your resources is still satisfying.
It doesn't have a huge amount of debt though. But it's really satisfying to see the first few rich citizens riding a horse, or even driving a car after you just invented them.

If you are into card collecting, Valkyrie Crusade and Divine Girls let you easily get into "endgame" without spending a single dollar and you can get the ingame currency with quests and bonuses. Most other games in that genre are much, much more P2W.

You gotta get lucky with group attack buffers, there is really no other choice (debuff team is too slow). I had two of them + critters and was able to kill FAWs with no problems as long as they didn't nuke me.
But even without SR buffers you can get a team capable of killing regular AWs and their friend system is really helpful in getting many cards with just sending.

I kinda feel like rng is the hardest in the first 5 floors or so, where you need to identify as many wands and potions as possible. And hope for at least 1 good piece of gear.
After that you can minimize rng by knowing how to burn secret doors with fire potions/traps, shit like that that noone explains but adds so much to the game.

Some basic knowledge is like, opening graves in previously locked rooms will always spawn 4 ghosts and always spawn a random armor. so if you are happy with your armor, fuck that grave. One of the potions you find on the first floor is mostly a potion of strength. If there's a room where you have to float or be invisible, you will always find the right potion on the same floor. But later none of that is relevant anymore, just pure damage reduction and damage output is important, plus a few wands and potions (most importantly, besides of healing, poison gas and liquid flame).

I recently got myself a beefy tablet for my birthday so I've been trying out all this new shit.
Here's a few recommendations:
Kritika - this shit destroys sacred 3 on every possible level. It's free, it's fun to play, it's got loot, some pvp stuff, and a ton of content. Bit pay2win though with all the boosts and shit you can buy, but if you git gud in the leaderboards, you can earn enough real cashmoney that it won't matter much. Great music, too. Downside is it'll probably take a pretty high end device to play it.
Defenders: solid 3D tower defense game, good mechanics, some alright story stuff, totally worth it
Shadowgun: Shooters are shit to play on a touchscreen so this is pretty hit and miss but it's probably the only decent one that isn't called MODERN COMBAT 4/5/6/7/7/8//89/57/8 ( Fuck that shit )
Some other decent ones are probably PSO2es if you're into PSO, Sonic Dash, ARC Redux for a starfoxy experience, Terraria is alright on mobile too, that about covers it.
I haven't gotten around to it but I wanna pirate dad spaec, the walking dead, XCOM, asphalt 8 airborne for a decent driving game and maybe something else if it catches my interest.

WWE Supercard is one of the most surprisingly non-pay2win mobile games these days. Just a simple, fun mobile CCG with wrestlers. There are obviously ways they included for you to spend money (it's a WWE game published by 2K, so it's expected), but regular gameplay is mainly designed for you to not be all that affected by it. Neat little RPG by Paradox. You play as a DM and a bunch of guys playing a tabletop game. Odd but addicting none-the-less. A tinge p2w, you can buy cosmetics and some consumables using real world cash, but they're pretty affordable with in-game cash so you're not getting jew'd or anything.

Amazing game, I remember playing on my ancient Motorolla a925. Now it has been upgraded.
It's free with in-app purchases but they are not jewy like usually. You can play without buying anything with no problem.

I've been having good times with Ravenmark Mercenaries, it's a fun little turn based strategy title, and I like marching my little armies to glory. The wheel of time references are nice too.
