I'd disagree with you a few years ago, but anime has incredibly homogenized in the last ten years. I'd say the main reason is because the two main audiences for anime are children and 30-year-old nerds. Manga is still very diverse, but I'd say that is a reflection of its broader demographic. Plus, anybody, even a monkey, can draw manga.
