It's a total conversion mod for Medieval 2 Total War Kingdoms, a sequel to EB1 for Rome Total War that has been in development since 2007. IN EB I combat was a lot slower and armored troops were hard to kill. Flanking and maneuvers were critical if you wanted a decisive victory.

Most factions start with a large army and undeveloped economy, you'll go into the red within 2 turns if you don't disband them all. The Seleucid campaign in 1 fucked me over with that, you can either march onto your enemies straight away or disband all your advanced units and have to rebuild from scratch while able to build up your economy.

The paper is full of tea stains and controlled burns to make it look like an old document. We conquered the entirety of western europe extending towards the Balkans. And Rome 2's engine was made for Gunpowder Total War games such as Empire/Napo/FoTS.
AI in TW games has always been pretty shitty, and they just resort to AI cheating/altering stats.
Rome 1's engine for combat was just fine, a few things wrong with it, but if they had just worked on bugs/problems from Rome 1, and just bring it to a slightly newer engine.

ui in game is hardcoded and cannot be changed, along with many other things. CA hate mods and have done everything they can to fuck the modders with each release.

Their style of warfare is completely worthless once they get to Germany.
Imagine trying to shoot someone, only to have the trees obscure your arrow, your formations have broken and are now in a brutal melee, and all of a sudden a Bavarian man named 'Hans' comes out of nowhere with a sword the size of you standing on your friend's shoulder and decapitates your horse, then bashes your skull in with a mace. Your friends try to recuperate, only to find a mob of peasants with clubs hiding in the bushes who proceed to murder them as your main host is ridden down by the terrible offspring of tanks and horses.
Western European warfare was pretty respectable.

Medieval 2 had that limit because the mechanic was based on feudal levies, which you could not train from scratch the way Romans trained their standing armies. So, hopefully, for the sake of historicity, the limit will be removed.

It's funny how CA basically sabotaged their own game.
I mean, it should be a no brainer to have a family tree for a time period that spans hundreds of years. Shogun 2 didn't really need a family tree, but Rome certainly does!
Or the unit cards in battles. Maybe it SHOULDN'T take up a third of the screen? Maybe an advisor SHOULDN'T be popping in every time a unit gets a little on edge?
It's the little things that kill Rome II. The things that would normally be fixed by mods but for some reason cannot be.

Shogun 2 sieges weren't that good imo, considering you could assault a castle the same turn you besieged it, because secret samurai wall scaling suction cups. It made the campaign too rushed as well.
FoTS sieges were great though, simply because of the massive artillery bombardments to leave the castles in a smoking ruin

That's certainly understandable.
What I liked about Shogun 2's sieges was that the forts were pretty open and had multiple layers, kind of like the higher tier castles in Medieval 2.
Although unlike Medieval 2 you didn't have to drag siege equipment everywhere to get at the inner layers.
But again, I can understand why the samurai suction cups were immersion breaking.
