It's me again about Stargate, what kind of games would you like to see of it (if it worked)?
>>
SGU starting after the series finale.
>>
That MMO they gave up on.
>>259704652
FUCK SGU
If there are any stargate games they have to be original series with general jack, and 2 terrible expansions featuring atlantis and the ori.
>>
A sequel to the original movie that retcons everything that isn't the original movie.
>>
SG SG-1 stopped being good after they killed Anubis off.
>>
What sci-fi shows should I watch
I've already seen Star Trek TOS, TNG, VOY, DS9, and Firefly

You play as General Hammond of Texas, you have to run the day to day activities of the SGC as shenanigans pour in through the gate and from Washington.

yeah the ori-arc signaled the end pretty much for SG-1, atlantis was ok, and SG universe was awful

XCOM, but Stargate and with a diplomatic menu where you try to negotiate alliances and trade agreements with friendly worlds.

SGU got pretty good in the last half of season 2. It was the only reason I got pissed at the cliffhanger cancellation, because as soon as the show started using the potential it had it was shut down.

For most of the show it was pretty sad, though. It was obvious they wanted to follow in Battlestar Galactica's footsteps by focusing heavily on the character drama portion of the show, but they completely forgot that in BSG the characters had plenty of depth and bigger things were constantly happening as the show progressed. SGU just sort of sat there on its ass going nowhere, forcibly wringing drama out of characters who had barely been established beforehand.
>>
>>259705802

The one with the something Confederation that slowly sterilized Earth. You know, the one with that episode where Carter throws a blood stained note through a Stargate to notify SGC in the past that travelling to the Confederate's world is a bad decision

Then they go ahead and do it anyway[/spoilr]

And it should keep main cast out and focus on random recruits. Maybe have Hammond be the general in base
>Have mechanics where you can choose worlds to venture to (have brief descriptions based on robot recon)
>can visit other worlds building affinity and eventually trading for rare resources like naquida or even tech with system kind of like civ
>have options for classes beyond just soldiers. Can bring scientists and researchers who have abilities to gain resources at cost of weaker military wise
>base defense using locations like SGC, off world bases, and allied home world's

The ori felt like kind of a mis step. Anubis was only really a half ascended with just a shit load of Jaffa. They should have just had some rogue full on ancient instead of a whole fucking fleet of them
The power gap between the ori and SGC was so broken they had to make a deus ex machina to fix it.

Like maybe instead of ori, just have the wraith discover the milky way and so they spend time united with Jaffa and asgard fighting off shitloads of them. Then by the time that's over SGC would have a bunch of spaceships and fighting ori would be far more equal

"Here we are. On our first mission to purge the galaxy of inferior races. Dial up our first planet on the list."

"Yes sir."

SHNKSHNKSHNKSHNKSHNKSHNKSHNKWHIRRRRFWOOOSHH

Then nothing.

Silver lining, though, is that none of them will have had time to realize what was happening before they died instantly to a horrific atomic crushing death.

As for the Stargate game, I'd love to see a Stargate game that takes exploratory/puzzle solving cues from Myst/Riven, but allows you to change events by letting you fight enemies in first person, run, be diplomatic, etc..
>>
>>259708280
Well it wasnt that easy
There were numerous ways to get through the iris whether melting it, sending a virus through, or slipping someone through before they could close it so for a game you could have different agro counters where if you anger someone too much they WILL break in
And the treaty took a while for them to organize and only blocked ship attack and only when Asgard weren't busy anyways
And I would assume the win condition would be defeating the gauld or whoever so no camping

There isn't any really broken stuff there

Maybe have the protected planets treaty be something you have to uphold yourself. Play yourself down to avoid needless attention, bluff the goa'uld into believing that the Asgard are still capable of responding etc. Missions on low population planets would be key to increasing your faction's power early on.

Also, wormhole attacks that overload the gate or melt the iris itself, undercover enemy agents that seek to hack or control the gate from the inside to open the way to an invading army, invisible intruders that occasionally slip through with your team, mind control tech and so forth. Plenty of ways to threaten the base itself, in ways that can't always be solved through firepower alone.

Battlestar Galactica, both the original and the reimagined series. The original series is standard old school sci-fi with a rather unique plot. RDA has earned his retirement. He had intended to leave acting even before SG-1 started, the show kept him in the business.

Michael Shanks fits the snarky nerd role too well and can't really handle other character types. Judge is a bit on the same side; really cool guy, but when he's not doing the stoneface act, he tends to overact in an overly theatrical way.

Sanctuary did deserve to stand on its own without the odd flak it got. It's not a bad show.

For me, what I really enjoyed about the series was the original central premise. It was like Sliders in a controlled environment. Just the idea of sending teams through the gate to unknown worlds and discovering what they were like. You could get a lot of good games out of that premise.

Personally though, you know what I've always wanted? A GBA style tactical rpg where you control SG squads, and can recruit virtually every character from the various series, each with unique abilities and perks.

Initially you only command a squad of four nobodies you make with a create a character type deal. As you play through, you unlock/recruit everyone from the series, and control multiple squads at a time. Imagine a squad with a Tok'rah, an Asgard, a Wraith and one of those reptile aliens Daniel befriended on it.

Other characters have special traits. Carter, Vala and Major Hooters all have a Charm skill, Vala can use G'ould technology since she used to be a host, has some Thief skills, stuff like that. Teal'c can carry heavy weapons and one of those energy staffs. Ronan has that special blaster he carried, Mackay and Carter can both science up tech using their environment, or build robots or whatever.

You also pick a character at the base for command abilities. Hammond would be an obvious one, one of O'Neill's special abilities would be that he's the only character that can both command and be on the field at the same time. He'd also have some special "macguyver" skill or whatever.

Always thought that'd be fun.

It was fucking pointless. Half the characters were annoying or useless. It was trying to be Battlestar Galactica. They thought since SG and BSG were ending, they could just pour those fans into this series, but the writing wasn't there and the story wasn't interesting.

Plus, those fucking stones that let them communicate with Earth. Holy shit, that was the worst fucking plot device ever. It removed any tension about them being lost in space, and it made for a lot of really fucking awkward scenes, like that guy fucking his wife in Lou Diamond Phillip's body. Who thought that was a good idea? Jesus Christ.

In order to be like BSG they also pretty much entirely removed aliens from the series as well.

I thought the actor playing the main scientist who fucked them all over and stranded them there was interesting, and Major Hooters was a joy to look at, but that was it.

Oh yeah, it had problems for sure. But I went back recently and just went through every episode skipping the song-drama bits and when things got too retarded like MUH SPIRITUAL FLASHBACK 2DEEP4U stuff.
And I realized that if you boil away all the garbage, the show itself is really damn good.
I actually cared about three main characters (Cmdr Cripple, Friend Zone and NotMcKay), and I was legitimately disappointed there's no season 3.

It all started to turn around for the better in the end. But too late...too late.

The director of Sci-Fi / SyFy who took over during that period hates space shows. Like HATES space shows. His vision of a Science-Fiction channel is lolsofunneh monster movies like Sharknado 24/7.

He purposely sabotaged the shows to get them the fuck off his channel, and instituted a hard rule that no show will get more than 5 seasons, no matter what. Only SG-1 got exemptions from this because it was the only fucking show bringing them any viewers.

Stargate SG-1 episodes were in part investigation/puzzles.

I'd like a Stargate investigation/puzzle/action game that makes you use 4 characters at once (maybe play like the recent X-Com games, with a focus on exploration/investigation).

Imagine:
>Oneil and Tealc take cover and hold out against Jaffa warriors. Tealc and Oneil's "ammo count is low!". A staff is nearby. "Tealc grabs the staff and buys time".
>Meanwhile Carter and Daniel (was that his name), figure out the sequence to activate the nearby gate. "Work together to escape", then return to the world later and help the locals.
>Each world saved unlocks skills and upgrades.
>Following locals' advice and customs gets you aid on upcoming missions.
>Meanwhile, the longer the SG team spends on one world, difficulty increases on the next world, and the Earth has a chance to get invaded by a mother ship.
>Send in interceptor? Oneil has died. Game Over.

Shit, I'd even play it if it was its own unique Sci-fi setting to avoid all the licensing and copyright issues. Wouldn't even be that hard.

>Setting of space has multiple intelligent races
>Something causes most of them to get involved in a huge intergalactic war that leaves billions dead and the survivors butthurt
>Eventually the war ends and everyone starts rebuilding the pieces
>Someone builds an independent space station where all species are welcomed to try and encourage post-war cooperation and you're the one who has to manage it
>You have to manage the station's security, economics, and other logistics while trying to keep all of the races in peaceful coexistence
>You have to thwart everything from a miscommunication turning into a brawl to a secret shadow conspiracy to bomb the station and restart the war

Rather than making "don't restart the war" the goal, it'd be better to just keep your station out of the wars that start and end throughout your tenure.

Babylon 5 (and I'd assume DS9 as well) had several wars that were basically out of the control of the station. Plus it'd add to the challenge of getting two races who are at war with each other to not make the station a battleground.

Maybe using FTL as the setting? An FTL station simulator would be pretty fun. It would be like running your ship, but on a much larger scale, and you have to deal with ships docking on your station. Set up businesses to keep the various species happy, set up living quarters so species that hate eachother won't be next to eachother, upgrade the station with shit like teleporters so you can have a security force of rock men that can get where they need to go quickly, I'm surprised such a thing doesn't already exist.

>Vosh

Kosh.

The Shadows were basically oversized insects and most of what you see of them are just their encounter suits. Their race likes to dick other races around, so they're obviously going to try and make their suits look edgy and intimidating.

The ultimate lesson was that both the Vorlons and Shadows were dicks and had been drinking their own respective kool aids for eons. All that said, the show certainly didn't age well and a lot of the aesthetics are kind of dated to an older sci-fi era. I'd prefer it to every species being humans just with green and blue skin, though.

As far as I know, a movie "reboot" is already underway. It's going to pick off where the 1994 movie ended, ignoring everything in SG-1, Atlantis and Universe.

Which doesn't really matter that much, since SG-1 itself didn't stay all that true to the original in the first place. I kind of consider them separate franchises. No goa'uld exist in the movie, the big bad is a grey-like alien shapeshifter and the last of his species, holding power over one meagre planet out of what used to be a galactic empire. Plenty of names, actors and places are different, too.

I liked the original movie because it was new and interesting at the time. Sci-fi in a setting similar to ancient egypt, with huge tech leaps between the peoples introduced (Ra < humans < egyptians). Furthermore, all of the sillier stuff introduced in the later series don't exist, which makes the movie a nice clean template for continuation. No ascension, magic, space clerics, ori etc.

I'm interested in seeing what comes out of it, though I do love the series franchise dearly.

What pissed me off was that the concept of the Ori had the potential to be really fucking good. When I first saw the original Orici, and realized they operate largely with fire I was like "Oh shit, demons masquerading as holy, angelic gods. That's fucking awesome."

Then it just instantly fell apart. They were faceless and uninteresting. The Orici were simply all powerful, they attacked with a fucking slow-moving virus. The staff weapons their grunts used were like cheaper versions of the Jaffa staffs.

It had potential too with the whole exploring Arthurian legends thing too, but even when they tried to bring in a fucking dragon it felt really shitty.

Since we seem to have a Stargate thread that hasn't died for once, here's what I'd like to see.
>cross between srpg xcom style and 4x Europa games
>switch between base/4x mode and xcom mode
>in xcom mode you control a squad and can explore the "world" possibly uncovering hidden ruins at the risk of assault or finding local people to trade with
>kind of a slow real time but allow pausing FTL style to quickly decide tactics
>planet location and design are randomized so you have to explore and decide best objective to follow whether it be explore, assault enemy bases, etc

>base mode is similar to xcom base mode
>can research tech, and train troops
>can auto send squads you create to deal with multiple situations at a time
>can create new tech and new squad members depending on allies you have, and also through recruitment in field or stealing tech
>works simultaneously with xcom mode so options to send reinforcements and the like all happen at the same time
>have large galaxy map which shows all the planets you've discovered
>planets will be updated with new info upon visiting and you will be able to visit via ship once you acquire one
>ship gameplay works like an xcom inside xcom with larger space battle and interior battle if invade/d
>game includes base defense with multiple bases
>game has multiple factions which you can ally with
>upon treatying up, can trade resources directly instantly and send/receive support in battle
>instead of keeping country support, you have politician support
>each one has different opinions on the program and will require different objectives to be completed to maintain funding
>goal is to become strongest force with control over galaxy, while loss conditions are earth invaded

>>259704273
When the game begins, you start out on Earth with the SGC under your command and all the essential areas. You begin with two or three squads of soldiers, the iris, and a place to explore. The game acts like a hybrid of XCOM and FTL. The gate room lets you dial in different combinations of gate symbols of your choosing. Some combinations are always the same in the game and involve key worlds or settings of the game's plot. The majority of them are randomly generated each time you begin a new game.

When you're ready, you pick your squad and assign them a mission. If you've never been there before, it defaults to something like "explore" and they go through the gate. Once they arrive, what happens depends on the world. If it's an uneventful discovery, you'll just get FTL-style popups with options of what to do and branching results depending on your choices. If the world has friendly life on it, you can choose how to interact with them and potentially establish good terms and alliances. If the world is openly hostile, you might try to have them avoid discovery or just get caught and enter a tactical battle with the troops you sent in.

As the game progresses, you explore more worlds and develop your relationship with worlds you've encountered. The government funds you monthly and you have to keep results coming to justify their continuation of the program. You can use the funds to expand the base, upgrade the security of the base, research technology you've discovered on ruined planets or stolen from the Goa'uld, and to design new ways of exploring or fighting the enemies you encounter.

If it's separate from SG-1's events, then you can follow a similar progression of undermining the Goa'uld, helping the Jaffa find the resolve to rebel across the galaxy, and then have the game climax with a System Lord launching a full-scale space attack on Earth.

Only the prototype suffered a heart attack

The rest had to be stopped with guns that turned off their immortality

to be fair they never actually showed her in the show while she was a gould host.

If im not mistaken Ba'al hadn't even actually met her gould version before until the alt. timeline, until then he was always just smitten with her human host
>>
>>259720403
I just wish they looked more monstrous and not like average guys in glossy plastic outfits. The concept for them was great, but they never felt like a proper threat. They needed to be bigger, faster and in larger numbers.
>>
>>259720379
That's a different character, Qetesh. Well at least that's what we're supposed to think. She was quite a bad guy in the series at times.

I adore star hate but did the lay-out of the gate room annoy anyone else? That shit was so lightly defended and prone to fuck ups. I would put the gate in a fucking vault surrounded by machine guns and shit. Not just two guards and the control room right in front of it.
>>
>>259720704
If I remember right didn't they also stop one by
>leading it out onto a field loaded with explosives
>firing on it from every direction with bullet based weapons for over 20 minutes
>firing on it from the Prometheus
>finally stopped when its transported to a room with no air and even then takes 20 minutes to die

I wouldn't exactly call the SG-1 gate room lightly defended
>at least 2 heavy machine guns mounted to the floor pointed at the thing at all times
>usually a good 10 to 20 soldiers stationed inside the room with the gate or near it
>the iris to keep shit from getting through
>the ability to get dozens of heavily armed soldiers on that bitch if need be
>if all else fails drops the entire mountain on the thing
>>
>>259721104
Everything about it was silly. Sending out one small team at a time, sometimes without even MALPing the target. No biological lockdown in the gate room, basically any weird virus the team picked from some space hobo would've spread like wildfire in the base. Command room physically in front of the gate with standard glass windows into the gate room, two Browning M2s and two blastdoors as the only immediate defense against an incursion etc.

It's just one of those things you have to be able to ignore. SG-1 wouldn't happen, as a team or a show, if realism had anything to do with it.

I know that shit but they never showed her symbiote actually being evil outside of that episode where she is on trial.

>entire series Baal is shown as being smart and tacticle as fuck
>the only goauld that actually outright KILLED SG-1
>somehow gets outsmarted by a symbiote that we never even see during the entire sries

Nah it made no sense, although I'm glad Teal'c was faithful as fuck till the end to Ba'al.

Syfy wanted to make it women friendly. The first episode I saw was some bodyswitch to a lesbian couple where one was in a wheelchair. I wish I made that up.
The show didn't feel like Stargate to me. SG-1 was b-movie shenanigans and could laugh at itself. Atlantis did that too to a lesser degree. SGU was just so goddamn serious and that bothered me to no end.
>>
>>259722179
>more women friendly
>they use one episode to watch asian girl go back home so we can watch her cook and drink wine with her partner, scissor each other then fight before she leaves.

that's when I gave up on this shit

SGU had a few (2 or 3 episodes) in the first season worth a damn and it actually got pretty decent towards the end of season 2.

Really the thing that got me more than anything was trying to take Lou Diamond Philips seriously.

Can someone actually name me a show with LDP in it that wasn't cancelled?

Yeah, it was. If they weren't there to bring SG-1 back to life then the show would've ended with Apophis being a badass.

It's Atlantis and Todd was such a fun character, but I still think it would've been better if the wraith had been less "human", more aggressive hivemind monster. All the talking and diplomacy in the latter half of the series kind of watered down their image of merciless apex predators.
>>
>>259723583
They're kind of the Klingons of Stargate. Really fierce and crazy at first, and then they become this really shitty diplomatic ally for some reason and just become lame
>>
>>259723583
There was mention at one point about a potential Atlantis season 6 idea about an episode exploring more of the origin of the wraith and what the connection was to the Ancients.

Supposedly Todd was to be a wraith from a more civil time between the Wraith and Ancients before shit went south and the Wraith went taliban with cloning facilities

Yup, forgot. He's only a step below McKay for me.

>>259725340
It was nice, especially because those side characters weren't useless either, unlike most of the ones in SG-1. That stumbling fat neckbeard scientist in SG-1 never got anything done at all, and he was supposed to be among the brightest of his kind to even get into such a position.

I just wanted to see him succeed every once a while and not have Carter take over and finish his projects.
