Resident evil 6 is a great game, controls are fluid as fuck, gameplay/shooting is fantastic and the campaign throws ridiculous settings and level designs that make it all the more fun to play, plus mercenaries mode is a blast to play. As far as platformers go, it's pretty good, but the fact that it is a Metroid game means that the story is butchered it makes no sense unless you basically retcon the whole series and since Metroid has had a big emphasis on non-linear exploration, hurts it a Metroid game
Resident Evil 4 is nothing like this. The only thing that has changed was the camera angle. As a by-product it only lad to improvements. Your aiming can be far more accurate for example. But the controls are still "tank". It's not just a good game, it is a GREAT entry in the RE series

Resident Evil is in dire need of a reboot. The series has lost its way - caught half way between Gears of War and classic RE gameplay. The plot is a tangled mess of po-faced nonsense that takes its C-Movie writing deadly seriously (although it can be enjoyable in spots in 6 - Birkin's campaign in particular).
4 was enjoyable because it dropped all the mechanics of the previous games, which had undergone little to no innovation or significant iteration. They were plenty stale and tired by the time 4 rolled around. Additionally, 4 dropped all semblence of continuinity with the previously established story arc, and instead embraced a ridiculous B-movie jaunt through countryside and castles and prison islands.
