The only thing I'm more worried about is that we don't see any new SMT spin offs any more. DeSu2 3DS seems to be dead, Raidou is even more dead, and one offs like DDS are probably never coming back.

SMT games are games in which buffs and status effects actually matter. They are very important as opposed to games like DQ and FF.
Having trouble with a certain enemy? Then try inflicting status effects.
Build a balanced team. I assume you already know about the press turn system (hit weakness/crit, get more turns) and how it also goes for enemies. Building a team that's resistant to a certain something is good for specific bosses, but unless you use guides there are times when you won't be able to find out what the next boss's speciality is. So balance is key.
Str build is better in the long run than magic, but magic is still very much viable.

For SMT, 4 is the best place to start since it has the smoothest gameplay. Strange Journey is a prequel to it in terms of gameplay, but it's way more dungeon crawling than 4 or 3. 3 is the most popular one of mainline SMT and where most started out on. It's rougher to play since you'll be missing out on a lot of gameplay tweaks and improvements, but it's one of the better games of the franhcise.

I loved IV but I feel like I can agree with that. As a game, I would put it above 1 but it's weaker than itin terms of story. It just seamed like patched together events if that makes sense. Plus there's the DLC and $50 price take. The former has no place in any Atlus game and the latter is silly.

I didn't much care for Nocturne's story (mostly because the world felt nothing like Tokyo) and I love SMT IV's battles for how much faster they happen. I also like that the mazes aren't as ballbusting and I have a map at alltimes.
