Lack of almost any third-party support at this juncture is a pretty big financial problem. WiiU has some nice exclusives, true, but you also must factor in that anyone who buys a WiiU, and just a WiiU, will not be able to play all the games all their retarded friends are playing. Maybe the games on WiiU are better, but they aren't the games everyone else is playing. Kind of a stupid philosophy, just to play things because everyone else is, but it's a larger economic driving force than you might realize.
That's why things like Mario Kart and Smash are so critical. Party titles like that really spur that sort of group mentality purchasing decision.

Less third party means less games. Less games means less people are interested in the system. Which leads to less systems sold. This results again in less interest by third parties who then again have less incentives to develop or port onto Wii U.
And in the middle of this mess Nintendo is standing alone, basically missing out on a shit ton of extra revenue from royalties it coudl reinvenst into additoinal game development, fixing/improving/adding new features to the console.

Activision is betting that many people will get on the Xbone/PS4 boat when Destiny drops, and they're further solidify that with CoD.
