The problem I had with 2kki is actually finding new areas. Why on earth would you have so many fucking areas and almost never add new hubs for them? Instead I have to dig through the same few areas over and over in hopes of finding something new.

The Witch's House, Mad Father, and Mogeko Kingdom are good ib-like games. There's also Lisa if you're looking for surreal, but the quality's a bit suspect compared to other games. And then there's Misao, which is a shit game due to attempting to be non-linear, but it still has a solid story.
