Honestly it depends on how lucky you are. It can get insanely difficult at times, with random encounters finishing off your MC before you even get a single turn. I believe it doubles the damage you receive and also makes enemies crit you more, lowers your chances to hit/crit/avoid and makes running away from battles next to impossible. Strange Journey was certainly very easy compare to my run of Nocturne hard mode, but there are people who didn't have that much difficulty in it.

This game is the first turn-based rpg i've cared to play for more than a couple hours (I normally play fighting games), and I am not finding it rage-worthy at ALL. The only part I got stuck on so far was Matador and I grinded for a bit, fused demons, and kicked his ass. This game is challenging, sure, but damn. I fucking love this game. the slice of life, the cringy dialogue, the waifu simluation, the boring repetitive dungeons (with the saving grace being that combat is somewhat tactical), the doing same shit every day for different days to grind stats (because grinding dungeons isn't enough), and I just hate the tone in general, it feels like a game made for kids (the best comparison I can think of is shounen vs seinen in anime)
And before you reply with "you don't have to grind", I mean that it feels like a grind the first time through, I don't mean replaying parts over and over to get stronger, the base game does that for you.
And then here's the part that irks me the most. I fucking love giant bomb right? To the point where I have seen every quick look, every live show. So why couldn't I sit through them playing persona 4? I'm on part 69 and I'm almost ready to kill myself.

Persona 3 and 4 are probably the most character-focused games. You could say they're 50% talking, 50% gameplay. Other MegaTen games are usually something like 80% gameplay, 20% story.
If you don't like them, shit, try out literally any other PS2 MegaTen game. Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga, even Raidou games (although those are kinda different). Try Devil Survivor if you like SRPGs. The second one is fine, too, although it does have more dialogue and shit.

it depends whether the copy is a first or second run. my copy of is a 1st PAL run and it displays DEAD during the final battle like other regions, but it also unfortunately has a bug that causes it to often freeze during specific enemy formations in the amala labyrinth. 2nd run seems to have fixed that issue and made some minor changes, like a couple of typos, couple of enemies AI that they messed up a bit and changing the DEAD to MUTE for some bizarre reason.

What's the point of "route splits" in Megaten when Neutral is the absolute best in every single game other than Nocturne, in which the best route in True Demon which also makes "route splits" pointless?

In the meantime, SMT4 is amazing, especially for a handheld RPG. I've got like, 130 some odd hours put into it. Kind of annoying how the neutral end is so hard to get though, especially when it's my nature to try to finish every quest and stuff, but I can't cause alignment and whatnot.
