Lost Sinner and Ruin Sentinels fall into the bug guy with big weapon category that's one of the game's biggest missteps.

They've got practically identical movesets. Also, Lost Sinner is a joke. It exemplifies the slow tedious process of blocking, getting a hit in, blocking, repeat. It only became "challenging" in NG+ when it embodied the OTHER big problem with DkS2's boss fights when it throws in adds.

But then they patched it so it's back to being nothing.

You need a decent shield and a decent amount of stamina to be efficient at blocking.

You can still roll with shit AGI, done that and EVERYONE can roll, except, maybe DSP.

Generally rolling consumes less stamina than blocking anyway, there's no real reason to block.

They're the same "type" of enemy, but again, there's VARIETY. In addition to their eye color they have different weapons and aggression levels. Black the Skeletons in World 4 aren't very different from the white ones, but when you see them drooling with blood red eyes and black bones, you immediately feel like this one is the alpha dog.

Something like that would have been good for Dark Souls 2. Maybe give the mace guys a different chest plate or something to distinguish themselves from the normal ones.

You see dreglings in just about every archstone, sure. But that kind of ties into showing you how the world and its inhabitants have been ravaged by the scourge, and even then there is variety between them
Stonefang's are scaley and require piercing weapons early on to do damage
Latria's kind of trick you because a lot of the are not hostile to you but then some will ambush you with poison weapons
Valley's are a little more grotesque visually, play dead, and their attack patterns are a little more unpredictable your first time playing
DeS doesn't have a problem with "human with weapon" because in addition to your standard human enemies in the archstones, you had mind flayers, gargoyles, flying manta rays, reapers, slugs, those spirit things the reaper summons, etc
DaS2 had pretty much only knights and dreglings and those exploding mummy dudes in every fucking area for some reason

Yeah, the idea of difficulty of DeS was having two or more enemies which can nearly oneshot you fight you in a material you can't roll in, followed by other smaller enemies as well, or having two or more enemies with stamina voiding moves and an automatic guard break, or others that directly 100% killed you with a single swing, while the rest of the enemies in the game could never actually kill you. That's amazing.

And how to forget the smaller paths to keep attention on to not fall off, so small that they make Hellkite drake's bridge look like that one wooden plank with the colorless soul.
