The library part was relaxing in a way.
Zone 3 was nightmarish, christ the final half of that zone was really quite unnerving. Especially since I decided to grind to get all the gear in Zacharie's shop and having to spend time killing all those burnts in the hallways of Area 4 with that fucking battle track.
And FUCK the purified zones.
Sugar's battle was a bit off too.
The Room was creepy as well, but I think that was because I was realising what was going to happen. The battle with The Queen is fantastic.
God this game nailed atmosphere really well, just sorry that tumblr shat it up.

It's has very surreal and sometimes disturbing imagery and music, and has no dialogue or story. The narrative if entirely left up to player to decide if it exists or not.

I remember a time when spoonfeeding was a crime.
This game is a mess but I really liked moments like that. That was one of the few places that felt like it had a coherent theme and message. Makes me wonder if this game is complete, would we have had a lot more areas like that? It's impossible to recommend this to anyone because most of the game is filled with sloppy giant looping voids with random sprites placed around them. Navigating them was a pain in the ass as it meant you just had to walk until you knew you went a full circle, then go down a screen a repeat until you find something of importance. This, the forest, the weird lake, and the subway are some of the few places that I actually remember well because they were actual areas.

The "point" of the game is to experience weird shit like what you described. There is tons of it in the game, alongside collecting effects, witnessing events, finding easter eggs, etc.
It's really not that all complicated. People find YN enjoyable for the same reason they find something like Morrowind enjoyable; the exploration and discovery.
