Half of the games in arcades now are mobile games. It's been this way for the past few years.
>>
>>257577794
well it's not like anybody's actually making games for arcades
>>
How did this game explode so quickly?
>>
>>257577439
I wonder how tough that button and the screen glass are.
>>
>>257577439
I thought that fad burned out already
>>
>>257580479
It's highly challenging but highly accessible. It also has "just one more turn" appeal.

But the fact it viralled so explosively was largely just luck.

American arcades make me sick.

>>257580309
The Japanese are. Their arcade games kick ass. Our cultures are too different to facilitate that kinda shit though.
>>
>>257582659

That would imply that he was huge you fucking moron
>>
>>257577794
It still baffles me that people will pay money to play slightly bigger versions of games that are on their phone, some of which they already paid for.
>>
>>257582923
no it implies the tablet is a normal 7'' tablet
>>

And most of which are f2p.

You now realize all those shitty impossible prize games would have been total hits today if they removed the prizes and put them on mobile devices.
>>
>>257583207
I saw an Infinity Blade arcade edition one time, I played it and I had some fun. It had some really bad collision detection issues and bugs that aren't present in the mobile versions though.
Probably to make sure you don't progress too far with one credit.

I think it had some exclusive content though, and a 2 player mode.
>>
>>257583539
isn't that hardcoded to fail until a certain amount of money is inserted
>>
>>257583659
Yes.
>>
>>257583659
Yes and no. It uses a random number generator to decide if you can win. Same with claw machines.

I think so, yeah.

What's worse, paying to play an F2P game, or paying to play a game you already paid for? Christ they're both terrible...

The problem is that people don't socialize in public anymore. There's no market for places where you go and do things with others.

Arcades died for the same reason LAN died.

Forget the fucking arcade game, are those Flappy Bird plushies in that claw machine?

Why?
>>
>>257577439
you want to know what is truly sad?

Google's own documentation for implementing their google play game services' multiplayer and achievements system uses a Flappy Bird clone as an example of good practices.

Provide a 'Quick Match' button that gets players directly into a competitive match.
https://developers.google.com/games/services/checklist?hl=es
>Give players an easy way to start playing against randomly selected opponents via auto-matching. For an example of this in practice, see the Clumsy Bird game.
>>
>>257583798

>>
>>257580479
the guy who created it used bots to place it at the top of the download list so people would notice it

my area has no arcades but some new party place or something called Main Event opened up here recently and it looks alright from the pictures but im not certain.

Anyone ever been to one? Is there quality cabinets or just shit like in the OP?
>>
>>257583937
You pay to play with other people. It's the same concept as owning a pool table but still playing at pool halls occasionally.
Now if you're going to arcades to play by yourself you're a complete social failure.
>>
>>257584624
A standard one. Claw machines have a pay-out factor as well. They'll use less pressure on the claws if you are not a 'winner.'
It's still possible to win items, but it's gamed against you.

There's one near my area, been there a couple of times in the past.
There's bowling (their major attraction), arcades, and laser tag. Arcades are alright, all I remember is DDR and I think they had Beatmania, the Jurassic Park game, and House of the Dead. It was fun.
>>
>>257584183

this always boggles my mind
>>
The thing that puts me off arcades is how it's £1 a go for every machine, regardless of how old the games are.

I mean it makes sense. an original Time Crisis machine is going to cost the same in electricity and maintenance as a new game, if not more.
>>
>>257585735

Most of those "chance" games are. If you look long enough, you can find the service manuals to these machines (and claw games) online and it goes into detail about the finer things like odds and how to set the odds higher or lower depending on how much money is put into the machine.
>>
>>257586029
Yeah I saw the other stuff, not too keen on bowling but I like billiards and the laser tag and rock climbing look fun. Any fighting games?
>>
>>257586421

but thats wrong. The game was insanely popular before that. It's actually one of the reasons the dev pulled the game, he was almost fucking scared of what he wrought
>>
>>257586270
I get the feeling this is why arcades never really took off in england. £1 is just too much money for one play
>>
>>257586696
Really? I thought it was for marketing purposes. Why would he be scared of it being too popular?
>>
>>257586696

>>
>>257584247
Yeah, at the risk of sounding like a weeb, that's why I like Japan so much. Apartments are so small and hanging out at people's houses isn't as common, there are tons of places just for hanging out.

A lot of the arcades I went to had cool little sitting areas and artbooks where players could chill and shoot the shit about tactics. Coffee shops are huge, comfy as fuck and allow you to hang out as long as you want if you buy something. It's nice and it gets you out of the house. Makes me wonder how hikki's in Japan do it. Being one in America is so much easier.

>>257584816
Pretty much everywhere in Japan is great if you're a smoker. Europe too. I can't tell you how sick I am of seeing all this anti-smoking propaganda here in Burgerland. So fucking annoying.

They do better in places like Blackpool because of tourists, so I think the games are cheaper.

There's a fine line between educating people and propaganda tier commercials equating smoking to eating dog shit, drinking cat piss, or secondhand smoke fumes being able to strangle a baby from over 100 feet away.

Besides, anti-smoking campaigns have been so effective that everyone already knows that they're deadly. There are huge warnings on the packages, and pro-tobacco ads are practically extinct in the US. It's like Dennis Leary (in b4 I get shit for referencing him and not Bill Hicks) said, it doesn't really matter how much you warn people at this point. You could make a brand of cigarettes called Tumors and put a big skull and cross bones right on the pack, but people would still buy them.

>>257590334

After having lived in Vietnam for a bit, I'm completely fine with what murrica is doing with the smoking message.
Living in poor asian countries is basically like wading through one gigantic cloud of cig smoke and it's shit.
If the goal of the propaganda ads is to eliminate eliminate smoking in x amount of years or push everyone to vapes in x amount of years than I'm all for it.
I personally don't even see these ads very often considering I don't watch TV and have adblock.
Even ads on public transportation, which I've been taking for the last 2-3 month, have mostly been for shitty online universities.

I'd be cool with vapes since they seem more efficient than cigarettes, but now Commiefornia,is trying to ban the use of vapes and e-cigs in public, and I bet other states will follow. It's like the shit brings people just a tiny bit of joy, and faggots thing it needs to be taken away.

Yeah it's hard not to see anti-smoking adds on tv. I personally am against smoking, for my health. I think smokers know it's not good for you or those around you. As long as public smoking is segregated to prevent second-hand, then that's all that should matter. I don't want smoke in my face, and smokers want to smoke. Keep it out of certain public areas and it's fine imo.
