Daily reminder that there has never been and will never be a good Cthulhu game.

Also there will never be a good Lovecraftian film.

dagon was okay
>>
There won't be, because in order for it to be faithful at all would have to be completely non-combat. It would just be a walking simulator with dialogue and finding transcripts and articles that link to an ancient cult, and then you lose it and game over.

I liked it.

It was pretty good, yeah.
>>
>>257135950
Or a good Lovecraftian book
>>
>>257136136
If Dagon was okay, then The Curse was okay. But it wasn't. I guess they weren't so bad.
>>
>>257136236
It was amazing till the moment they gave you a gun.
>>
>>257136141
Great! We'll get one of those pretentious pricks who made Dear Esther to do it.

Or, you know, just be non-faithful and good at the same time. Not saying Cthulhu has to die but we could play as some dude who tries to kill him.

Cthulhu Saves The World is quite good.
>>
>>257136551
Yeah, I haven't played it in a few years but I remember the guns feeling a bit clunky. If there's one thing that game did really well it was atmosphere.
>>
>>257136236
this, it conveys the HP Lovecraft atmosphere perfectly

While not a direct lovecraft film, Del Toro's Hellboy was heavily inspired by the material, and its basically Ron Pearlman in the paranormal MIB trying to keep the Old Ones from entering our reality. Its the best we have for now, although Del Toro has been trying for over a decade to get a passable screenplay of At the Mountains of Madness done, he has a huge boner for the Elder Things.
But its been stuck in development hell forever, and every script that has been drafted was fucking terrible, it lacked the subtle implications and slow dread that made Lovecraft great.
The last attempt at the script starred Tom Cruise, it was supposedly a horror-action romp in the spirit of Aliens, and the climax of the movie literally had them shooting at a giant Cthulhu. Total balls.
Peter Jackson has dipped his dick in and out of the project for years as well, but I dont know if it will ever get made.
>>
>>257136236
It doesn't have much to do with Cthulhu himself though.

The only good part of this game is the first hour, the rest is complete dogshit.

Like >>257136551 says, forced combat with terrible shooting and completely shit "stealth" ruin the game. And unfortunately after the beginning, that's all there is to it. I was incredibly disappointed.

Herbert West: Reanimator was good.
From Beyond has a certain charm.
Jeffery Combs must have had a Lovecraft boner.
If they ever remake Reanimator, I demand they cast Bill Hayter as HW, that would rule so hard.

it's okay stop motion o one of lovecrafts best works save for the anticlimactic ending, he doesn't go nuts describing everything.

>>257135950
Original Evil Dead movies are pretty much Lovecraft. Not counting the shitty modern remake

I was hoping that he would be a secret/super boss in Persona 5 or possibly the true ending final boss but it turns out that he just appears as an optional boss in the Eternal Punishment psp version so I doubt we'll see him in 5.

Neither the old game nore the new are any good.

You roll dice, draw cards, and things happen to you, with minimal player interaction that's trivial at best.

Isn't Clive Barker's Undying considered a "lovecraft game"?
>>
>>257135765
If they made a lovecraft game it'd have to be an RPG in order to do it justice.
>>
>>257139446

lovecraftian inspired maybe, but not lovecraft.

Eternal Darkness was pretty damn good and lovecraftian
>>
>>257136236
YES.
They nailed the atmosphere, but the shooting became tedious pretty quickly.
The Innsmouth folk looked and sounded EXACTLY how I imagined they would.

The HPLHS film version of The Whisperer in Darkness was great until they decided to fuck it all up with CGI instead of practical effects.

What about the upcomg Darkest Dungeon? Heavily HPL inspired and it looks like a fun time, with the insanity and all. Lots of different classes, tons of status effects and situations to suffer through, I'll def. try it.
Though Im getting really tired of "plauge doctor" style characters.
>>
>>257135950
actually there have been 2 very good ones made so far.

http://www.cthulhulives.org/

They made Call of Cthulhu into a silent film complete with an anamatronic stop motion Cthulhu. It's fantastic.

http://www.cthulhulives.org/cocmovie/index.html

http://www.cthulhulives.org/cocmovie/trailer.html

They made more films and tons of radio broadcast type performances in the styles of the times the stories were made.

it's fantastic.
>>
>>257138917
Ok i'll allow it.
>>
>There will never be a Delta Green video game
>>
>>257140195
To be fair, they also made the story, like, twice as long as the original writing.
>>
>>257140195
That film was SPOT ON PERFECT, until the very end. I didnt really mind the way the Mi-Go looked, but that little girl completely killed the pacing and tone of the film.
You should have never seen her after she helps that guy escape the farmhouse, she served her purpose, shes done in term of the story.
But noooooo, during the climax of the film, the writers decided that this guy should try and forge a paternal relationship with some girl he met and hour ago.
THESE FUCKING CULTISTS ARE TRYING TO BRING ABOUT A HORRIBLE ELDRICH FUTURE AND YOURE GOING TO STOP AND TRY AND CONNECT WITH SOME RANDOM ORPHAN? EVERY SECOND COUNTS!!!
And later, when theyre trapped in the barn, and the Mi-go are just outside, battering the walls, trying to get in and scoop out juicy human brains.
The atmosphere is super tense and suspenseful, then they go and ruin in by making the guy do a lame "WHOOPS I TRIPPED!" comedy routine trying to get the plane to start, complete with a reaction shot of the girl giggling at his clumsiness. Totally killed the film for me, I didnt care what happened to either of them after that point. 10/10 yes Im mad. But only because the movie was so close to being perfect.
The Call of Cthulhu silent film those guys made before TWID was better.

Stop, please. You're causing me physical pain.

Seriously though, Delta Green has some of the best writing I've ever seen in a tabletop franchise. If they had the same guys writing a DG video game, I would cum shoggoths.
