It has been dying off since the PSX made it big with the casuals. Very slowly at first but once momentum built up there was no stopping it.
I can't hardly even think of a game series I loved that isn't dead or butchered beyond recognition right now.
Monster hunter I guess? I was never a huge fan but it seems to be intact- perhaps by virtue of it not being made for the western market?
