W1 reminds me of Bloodlines a lot. Same shitty graphics and animations, lots of backtracking, shitty combat, great writing, lots of soul.
It gets better and better as the game goes on. The village in 4-th act is one of the comfiest places in videogames ever. And ending is legitimately great with a really cool twist. Poles always nailed villains with the exception of Eredin maybe.

The story itself isn't very good either. But the characters are great and the decisions and their ramifications later on are great. THe characters have their own mini stories that go throughout the game. That's what's great about Witcher 1. So much content that is good.
But yeah, so much content that isn't. Honestly, too much fetch questing and nothing I did really felt rewarding because I really didn't care much for the fighting and if I have to go to that swamp one more time! Oh wait. I finished the game and I'm never playing it again.
I loved-- LOVED-- witcher 2 and 3. I never played 1 and played it like a month before 3 came out and I was like... "ehh... I may as well beat it to say I did."
But yeah, anyone reading this-- you can safely skip Witcher 1. The good stuff-- and there is some good stuff-- may not be worth it.
