Japanese society is so incredibly ordered, rule-focused, and centered around the individual's responsibility to the community that the Law routes we tend to find absurd and restrictive seem like much more reasonable choices to some Japanese players. Kaneko even commented on this and said he was worried that all Westerners would consider Law Routes to be outright bad endings.

SMTIV handled Law/Chaos routes very, very poorly. It's sad because everything up through Blasted/Infernal Tokyo was amazing, aside from how they sidestepped the early route choice thing by doing some weird-ass Schrodinger's Flynn shit where Walter and Jonathan both remembered him helping them.
I also wish that Ring of Gaea girl hadn't gotten eaten ten minutes after she was introduced. Like why even give her a portrait? Even that one sidequest girl deserved one more.

But Law's reasonable if you look at it from an outside perspective and consider what it actually does.
It gets rid of all demons, and makes the angels leave as well, to leave only humans under their own guidance. It gets rid of the taint of demonic knowledge that would lead to devil summoning, which would inevitably lead to ruin of the world by demons/humans controlling demons.
Humans live in peace, still capable of free will and having fun, carefree times. They help one another for the sake of helping their fellow man, but are entitled to their own work too. They aren't even stuck with a bad quality of life, as they were allowed to research technology that would make life easier and more enjoyable as well.
It's pretty much the best Law ending in the series. It ends with no brainwashing, no dictatorship, no harsh living conditions, no social hierarchy, humans still socializing and having a fun time, and no otherworldly enforcers or threats whatsoever.
The only downside is the initial sacrifice, but this is one case where using "the ends justify the means" goes on to show you they actually got really good ends, and all other alternatives have shitty means to reach worse ends (chaos/neutral don't do a fucking thing about demons who will easily lead to as much slaughter as Tokyo's citizens, White just kills everything).

Neutral was so self-masturbatory like crazy. You have a personal waifu, everyone treats you as a hero, you don't REALLY have to confront Chaos/Law Heroes (because they both die before you meet them again, and they don't face you in human form), and even characterization of Chaos/Law sides is outright changed in the Neutral path.
Like the Archangels who personally destroyed the social caste system of Mikado, furious at the thought of people who saw themselves as anything but equal to one another in the eyes of god, go on to shit-talk Flynn based off of that social caste system and him being of common stock.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey is a spin-off for DS, but was originally planned to be IV.
For various reasons, they scrapped the idea of it being IV, renamed it SJ, and eventually released the real IV for 3DS.
But, due to it originally going to be, and the similarities it bears with, the mainline SMT games, most fans consider SJ to be an "honorary mainline".
If you want to start with the main series, instead of the various spin-off series, I suggest you buy/emulate SJ.
