Is this the best remake of an old game? I can only think of the Outrun remake, close but not better than this
>>
I need to get around to trying that sometime. I enjoyed the original Bionic Commando, even though some aspects of the game were complete bullshit.

The best remake of an old game I can think of offhand is Megaman: Powered Up. It fixes pretty much all the problems the original Megaman had and adds a ton of content. I'm not a big fan of the artstyle, but I can live with it.
>>
not anymore after this comes out in 2026
>>
>>320695406

Yes.

It's a remake that's faithful to the original but also goes out if it's way to improve the flaws of the original to an incredibly polished level without seeming stuck up about it. Not to mention all the new gameplay modes and content it threw in on top of the base game.

It helps that the team behind it were actually super fans of the original game.

Compare the love and care put into this game to Ninja Theory and their DMC Reboot. They developed the game with stuck up noses and the belief that the original property was far beneath them and that only their vision could do justice. GRiN just wanted to make a good Bionic Commando game that feels like fucking Bionic Commando.
>>

It doesn't look like a real "remake", they changed too much

I want to say the new strider game counts since it takes a lot from the NES game
>>
>>320696284
I always thought that Strider was an arcade only game, I should really play that nes version
>>
>>320696245
>like?

Not him, but BC NES was fun but not perfect.

Boss fights were garbage.
Weapons were mostly garbage. No reason to use anything other than bazooka and you can only bring one.
The Hitler boss fight was pure bullshit (You missed your one shot? Too bad)
>>
>>320696565

Most people remember Strider for the arcade game and the Genesis port . The NES game is mostly obscure.
>>
>>320696641
Except for the final boss battle (I still have to finish it) they fixed both the boss battles and the weapon selections
>>
>>320696284

Is Strider good?

Why is Capcom so godly with their remakes?

I know Ultimate Ghost'n'Goblins technically doesn't count as a remake but that was based as fuck too
>>
>>320696245
>It doesn't look like a real "remake", they changed too much

Thats the point of a remake, to remake a gane with modern gameplay design and graphical technology
>>
>>320697020
>Why is Capcom so godly with their remakes?
Probably passion and respect for their older games

And the fact that they can't do new ones
>>
>>320696998

Well yeah, BC:R is pretty much perfect. No one is arguing that.

Its very different from its arcade counterpart much like bionic commando. Its more of an exploration game than the straight forward action of the original

>>320697020
It's really damn good, probably one of the better metroid-esque games. Gameplay is fast-paced and frantic, bosses are really fun to fight and the final challenge before the last boss is straight up ecstacy

I was actually a bit surprised at just how incredibly tough Ultimate Ghosts n' Goblins is. I wasn't expecting it to be easy, but since I've beaten some of the previous entries I didn't think it would be quite this grueling either.

Where do the 3DS Zelda games fit in this?
I think of them as remasters because the only thing different they really add are better visuals, gyro controls and other minor things, but other losers disagree that it isn't only a remaster by saying
>B-BUT DIFFERENT ENGINE
>GYRO IMPROVES THE GAMEPLAY
>GRAMPHICS

And actual bosses. And weapons beside the rocket launcher. And new enemies. And challenge rooms, coop and multiplayer.
>>
>>320697976

They really seem more like remasters honestly.

And personally, I wouldn't consider them that great. They're serviceable, but not exceptional.
>>
What's the deal with Rearmed 2, and why it's only on PSN and XBL for old gen consoles? Apart of people getting butthurt about jumping, it looks like the platforming is kinda bland due to that and the new swinging mechanic.
>>
>>320698441

The platforming is actually pretty good. The level design is far more vertical and open than Rearmed. The jump isn't a big deal either. It's this tiny little jump that's also a commitment jump like Ghost N' Goblins. It doesn't completely ruin the game design of BC, rather it compliments it. It's more like when they added a double jump for Super Ghost'n'Goblins.

As for the console exclusivity, fuck if I know.
>>
>>320695406

Was the 3D BC game any good?

I played a little of it a couple years ago, but not enough to really get a feel for it, beyond the arm mechanics seeming a bit awkward(at least on short exposure.)
>>
>>320699465
It's the best Spider-Man game
>>
>>320698342
At the very least they run at a better framerate (30fps compared to 20fps on N64) which is always better.
>>
>>320699465

The arm mechanics take some time to get use to but once you figure out how they work, it's really fucking good.

Hell, in the multiplayer mode, you could manage to swing on another player. That shit was fun as fuck.

>>
>>320699123
I think it's because it was pretty much panned by everyone, due to requiring you to be online to play it and not banking on nostalgia. That, and the fact GRIN closed during development leaving the rest to Fatshark, which I guess didn't do wonders to the polish. So since the reviews were pretty poor, CAPCOM, being CAPCOM, decided it wasn't worth to port it on Steam.
>>
>>320699747

Fatshark was made up of GRIN employees.

Honestly, the game is just as good as BC:R, aside from dubm as shit auto scroller levels. The always online thing just left a bad taste ont people's mouth. If you loved BC:R, it's worth checking out. You may not love it as much, but you should be able to have fun out of it.

The only thing I didn't like about BC:R2 was that the boss fights just weren't as good as BC:R1.
>>
>>320699465
Depends to who you ask. To me it's a good but definitely not great game, with great potential and some actual good stuff but also heavy fuckhuge flaws that are hard to ignore. And believe me, I replay it every year at Christmas, this year I actually managed to do a complete achievement run.

The grappling and swinging is kinda weird at first (fixed swinging speed, no actual momentum for consecutive swings), but then you figure out it's kinda like a sling, and it allows a lot of control on your movement; it's kinda like old BC, where it wasn't really rooted in physics but where it definitely works. Weapons are pretty powerful, even if they are on very limited uses. And on KB+M, it really works well. On the other hand, the level design is similar to the old BC, so if you expected a free roaming Spider Man game you are very off target; especially for the incredibly annoying radiation clouds, that make exploring for collectables and stuff incredibly frustrating, which is really terrible. To upgrade, you need to do challenges that force you to play in some way, that can be annoying (especially when they are kinda mandatory like armor upgrades in hard difficulties). The story is also a complete mess and believe me, that's an understatement.

Also, while the multiplayer was probably the most original rethreading of arena-like gameplay (which worked very well since small, enclosed maps are expected) in recent times, it's completely dead in the water save for sporadic Hamachi matches. And still, it was three modes and a handful of maps.

From the looks of it, GRIN had a stupid amount of ambition on the game, but was cut short on time or resources, resulting on what you see in the game.

I'm still mad at how poor BCR2 was. That shitastic level design was not fun to play in the slightest. Didn't help that half of the stages felt like they had grapple points shoe-horned in because they assumed you were going to use the new jump function instead.

You could play through the entirety of BCR2 without jumping once. There was even a trophy/achievement for doing so, and to test the game's level design out, my first run through the game I went without jumping a single time. I was able to do just about everything, except for grabbing one of the optional collectibles that seemed to be impossible to get without jumping.

>>320699465
I loved BC09 so much and agree with pretty much everything >>320700698 said.

Amazingly well done gameplay with swinging mechanics that have any other game with grappling/swinging beat. And, like the other guy said, the way the level design was handled made the game a literal 3D Bionic Commando -- it was structured in a way that it felt like a 2D game that just happened to be in 3D. Kind of like the levels in the Super Mario Galaxy or Super Mario 3D Land/World games, if you've played any of those.

I miss the multiplayer so much.

To be fair, Bison and Killt always looked the same. Funnily enough, Killt predates Bison by a few years, making Bison the ripoff if anything.

Immensely hyped. I actually loved playing as him too and the way he played in general...except for the fact that I wasn't a fan of how MvC3 played overall, if that makes any sense.

Loved him and how his moveset worked, just wished he was playable in a different game.

Didn't stop me from getting his BCR costume, though. A shame that and all the other DLC costumes for the game are lost in the wind now.

>You could play through the entirety of BCR2 without jumping once.

Yeah, but it really didn't hurt the game as much as people feared it would. Especially with how weak it was in the game. It just helped the game flow better at points and I really didn't mind it.
>>
>>320709264
>You could play through the entirety of BCR2 without jumping once.
It felt really last minute at points though compared to BCR1 where everything felt intrinsically designed around being swung from point A to B.

There are moments where you can get 'stuck' in BCR2 if you refuse to jump, notably in spots where you muck up the ground slam move to destroy stuff in your way, or were expected to land on a certain side of a gap with nothing overhead to work off of.
>>
>>320709474
I replayed it again a second time using the jump and thought it worked just fine. I wasn't offended by them adding a jump -- they already did that in BC09 and that worked just fine there. I was just curious to see how the level design was handled with a no-jump playstyle in a game that had a jump added into it.

It hurts. I was so hyped to see BCR2 after GRiN blew up and had hope that we might still see another Bionic Commando game or two after that.

We're lucky we even got BCR2 at all, in hindsight. I'd love another 2D game and another 3D game. The actual gameplay and mechanics of BC09 were fantastic; it'd be such a shame to let that slip away into oblivion.

Old GRIN developers went fucking anywhere, Fatshark and Overkill are just the two biggest studios. It's a big shame, since it seems BC09 had some troubles in development (basically, CAPCOM wanting a short development time. At one time the game had magazines.), and fixing all that stuff it's a pretty big ordeal.
