So, Sakurai said this in his recent Famitsu column:
"In such cases, even if two characters' names and voices differ, as long as they function the same way, I assign them as alternate costumes. The Wii Fit Trainers, Villagers, and Robin are examples of this setup."
He explains that Lucina being separate from Marth is the exception, not the rule. HOWEVER, the examples he cites (Wii Fit Trainer, Robin, Villager) have different models and voices but NOT different names. Having a different name would imply a separate character more akin to the Lucina/Marth relationship rather than simply a gender swap.
So what differently named/voiced/modeled characters are making it in as alternate costumes?
