I'm already against the very concept of preorders.

Why the fuck would I pay for something that doesn't even have development secured?

Preordering is another way of showing a company that you're willing to give away money for cheaptricks regardless of quality.

It means that you're a fucking tool.

I supported $3.3 MILLION

>>
>>253346286
Even if you wait until after release how are you supposed to know if the game is good or not without playing it?

Please don't tell me you take other people's opinions, or fucking game journalists', as fact.

It's not about buying into hype, it's about researching a game and deciding if it's something you may enjoy, then taking the risk (there's always a risk) of purchasing it. A game's reception can play a part in that decision but it shouldn't be a very big one so I think in some cases preordering/day one purchases are fine.

Yep. Pillars and Amplitude. I enjoy reading the updates they send me, and unless the projects just 'cancel' and never finish, everything looks good so far. I'm not 14 anymore, I don't need a "reviewer" or "LPer" to tell me whether I like something or not.

None. Why would you ever pay in full for a game before it's even coming out? 99% of the devs are indies nobody's ever heard of with no precedent for quality, and the other 1% are shitty devs trying to make a comeback when it's clear they no longer have any idea what they're doing.

You do know that there is many many variety of FPS right? I dont think I ever played a WW2 FPS.

How many FPS have you played in your life? Ever played a Horror FPS like FEAR or a Open world FPS like Fallout 3 or a Loot based one like Borderland or a Story based like Spec Ops The line or a Puzzle one like Antimatter...

There is tons of variety in FPS just like every genre.

>>253352057

>>
>>253352057

>>
Not backing shak fu. come one people. . .
>>
>>253352389

Inversely, I can guarantee that you've never played the NES Mega Man titles. Maybe play some real games before you talk out of your ass.
>>
Broken Age (15$, enjoyed it, looking forward to part 2)
Shadowrun Returns (15$, enjoyed it, plus Dragonfall is supposed to be even better, so there's that)
Wasteland 2 (50$ for the boxed copy, looking good and hype as fuck)
The Banner Saga (10$, bretty good)

I also laid down $48 for Grim Dawn back before kickstarter blew up with the Double Fine thing. Pretty fun the few times I have turned it on (I've been in college the last few years and had no time for vidya).

As far as Steam Early Access, I bought Next Car Game (I want to say it was >$20) purely for the physics playground and the demolition derby stages. I've already gotten my money's worth out of that one. Other than that, I don't touch Early Access.

Grim Dawn I only laid that much down for because I was enthralled with the idea of a spiritual successor to Titan Quest, and really wanted a new ARPG. Wasteland 2, well, what can I say? Boxed copy with an actual disc, cloth map, and old school instruction booklet. Just getting to open that up will be a hell of a nostalgia trip.

Now that I've graduated and have a job, maybe I should look into kickstarter again. There've been a few reputable and enjoyable games that I didn't kick, like FTL and Mercenary Kings, which I have bought and enjoyed, and others like Mighty No 9, Shantae, and Shovel Knight which I wish I did. Plus all the IE-tirbute RPG's being made.

Kickstarter can be good if you're careful about who you back. You have to be a thorough and responsible consumer.

People are dumb.
Kickstarter is a fine idea, but people are easily manipulated with things such as hype. You only fund games with two characteristics
1. They're carefully explaining what the game will be, the goals and they go into great, very exact detail about the gameplay visuals aesthetics feel etc. They have a consistent vision.
2. They've proven themselves by working on other projects and delivering.
Great way for devs with skill but no money to get backing for games. But it's easily abused.
>>
>>253355697
Except that it's not a preorder. Most times of they dont backing the game do not exist. Most people cant afford to go to a publisher and even if they can, the publisher might not pick the game.

I did.
I actually wasn't able to donate in the initial Kickstarter because they held it around Christmas time, so I emailed ToG, and they set me up with one personally sent out to me after wiring them the money through Paypal.

A big fat zero.

I considered backing Citizens of Earth, but at the time I was broke and they hadn't really convinced me. Seemed like they just wanted to ride on the back of the Earthbound/Mother 2 fanbase.

ghostygump said: Since we cannot expect Undertale to come out by August/Summer, when can we expect a release date or more information regarding the game?

It’s kind of hard for me to give a release date because I don’t know how long things are going to take until I do them, and I don’t feel confident making a guess about it. I will keep making gradual progress updates though. Hopefully it all takes a reasonable amount of time.

What kind of information did you want to hear?

Only backed the Skullgirl DLC. They actually doing a fantastic job.

The only reason why I backed it because they actually had a game already out, and these are simply DLC to get more character.

They are realistic and never over promised something.

do we have to talk about how investing into a kickstarter campaign is an economically retarded thing to do, again? I'm not interested. You just keep on creating the demand for unfinished games, then later come to /v/ to bitch about how everything is early access or released unfinished, and I'll just sit here shaking my head. The end. You win, consumers are retarded.
>>
>>253368139
Except I am careful with what I back; I've only ever backed four games. Consumers will smarten up eventually (as in, when their parents find out they've been using their credit cards), and the ability to put up bullshit games that never get finished will disappear as people become savvy.

You can >imply all day, but there've been a cascade of great titles that have been kickstarted. Excellent games that I've paid $10-$20 dollars for, when a conventional release would have seen them at $30 or more - or simply never having been made.

Of course it's possible to get scammed and find yourself with nothing, or crap, in return for your investment. Then again, not all of those $60 games that come out are all that worth it either.

>>
>>253377530
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for Sburb: The Game, but I'm looking forward to it either way.

My logic is, the first five acts of Homestuck were, for the most part, really good, then he put too many balls in the air and shit started getting really gangly and hard to follow. My hope is that he'll have an editor and a schedule and deadlines and shit to force him to focus in the game, so, it'll hopefully bring out his best stuff. Even if it's not Sburb.

You must be a socialist or something, if you want to make sure you've got a fucking safety net. You have to have faith sometimes and take the risk for what you want, I did it with Shovel Knight, and goddam am I happy.

Took the same risk with No, 9...really beginning to doubt that one, but it could still be fun
