I can say this is genuinely the first indie game that I think looks impressive.
I hope the gameplay pays up, they claim to be inspired by Konami and Treasure run and gun games from the 16 bit era, if they can actually make the game with such high standards, then this may end up being a really, really great game.

I can only think of anime, but even anime has decreased the quality ever since digital became mainstream... maybe the only exception being Ghibli

Lack of competition in the 30s. There were only a small handful of movie studios (remember, back then cartoons were produced and screened theatrically) and they had virtually no competition thanks to vertical integration (studios also owned the cinemas that screened their work). Nowadays, cartoons have to compete with every single other program airing at the same time slot on sometimes hundreds of other channels, and with co-productions, parent companies, etc, they're sometimes competing with other shows made by themselves that air on other networks. Plus, the cost of television production has skyrocketed, and even outsourcing inbetweening and even all animation overseas isn't helping as much as used to even as late as the 80s.
>>
>>248763313
If Satoshi Kon was still around, he'd be making killer Anime with shit hot animation stil.
>>
>>248763313
Look on the bright side, Stop Motion is doing better than ever due to Laika being failure proof with all that Nike money. Just stop watching cartoons made for tv, they're all worthless animation wise (and generally in every other way too). Save your time for more interesting movies like Leafie, anything Ghibli pumps out, and some of those French animated movies, though they can get a little cutesy.

There's a lot more anime being produced these days and animators work their asses off on low budget throwaway shit. There was a controversy a while ago when an animator killed himself after being subjected to 600 hour work weeks, it's insane. The pay is shit too. >>
>>248762919
It just depends on what Cartoon you watch.

Technology has both allowed us to have greater and worse animations.

Most television productions just don't have the same budget and time as a more theatrical release. I mean keep in mind with a lot of these 1930s cartoons they were short and were not expected to be weekly episodic just something to put at the start of a few films to entertain the audience.

Love or hate the Legend of Korra but the animation work done by Mir is just simply stunning for the amount of time they spend on it.

There is no book. Just start drawing, copy pictures you like, eventually you'll git gud... or not, but doesn't matter, keep trying.

I have this book by Toriyama though, I'd reccommend it, but more for the humor rather than actual utility. The guy reccommends you get magazines with lots of cute chicks to copy and draw them.
Actually it has some technique stuff in it but it's not too serious.

I have a couple "serious" books with things like proportions, perspective techniques, etc... but really, all of that is useless unless you get comfortable drawing and get your own style.
Many great comic authors never studied.
>>
>>248770385
This is the best advise. A lot of the style comes from understanding how to draw form and volume in shapes.

When you master that you can begin to understand how to draw a more cartoonish look. I recommend to >>248770303 take a few drafting lessons then pick up the book: The Animator's Survival Guide.

Well, I think if the softer style is supplemented in other areas, it's still visually engaging. Especially if they use it for the sack of a wide array of exaggerated expressions.

But yeah stuff like lucky star is really tiring.

It's all about how you use your resources. If it's simple detail AND stiff and static there's nothing to like.

>You know what's really fucking sad though? There will never be huge crossover shit like this ever again due to money grubbing assholes demanding cash for appearances.

This actually made me tear up a little while I was watching it. You can't just make shit anymore, you can't just gather a group of likeminded individuals and pour your lives into something like that with wreckless abandon. If something like that were made today, it would get shot down the moment you came up with the idea, and even ignoring that no one would sign up to do that with you because they'd fear for getting sued, losing their jobs, etc.

You can't just MAKE things anymore, there's so much superfluous complicated bullshit involved. Even the indies that try this philosophy to this day don't dare step on any corporate toes if they want to make it in their respective industries. Even non-profit content gets neutered like this, it's a goddamn shame.

My advice to you is to never EVER stop drawing. Force yourself to do it even if you can't. no paper or pencils? Cut yourself and draw on the wall with your blood or piss on the floor or something. just DON'T. FUCKING. STOP. DRAWING.
I used to draw throughout school and was really good. I was hoping to get into making vidya as an artist and animator, but then I graduated and life fucked me over. Been a NEET for over 5 years and haven't touched a pencil since. Heavily considering suicide.
Don't be like me, become great, follow your dreams. Don't let nothin' stand between you and your destiny as a moderately successful furry porn artist.

Actually, I wouldn't call it the best disney game because gameplay-wise it wasn't the best, it had your average slippery controls of many Virgin-made games, I think Caslte/World of Illusion or the Capcom mickey games are better gameplay-wise, but yes, the art style and animation was delicious.

people say it's just a movie, as if you didn't have full control of your character at all times. as if there weren't those glowing whatevers to find, and a reward for doing so. as if the "you can jumpfloat as long as your scarf" wasn't a valid mechanic, coupled with the "refill your scarf by touching any magic fabric". as if leapfrogging off your partner, avoiding the stone dragons, and navigating some of the areas didn't require active participation on the gamer's side. as if establishing a rapport with the other player, despite no avatar customization or gestures or communication aside from chiming, jumping, and sitting wasn't an amazing experience that I've felt in few other games, or times in my life.

Because it allows certain artstyles to actually work when animated. A problem with hand draw animation is that designs can be hard to keep consistent, especially if what youre animating has a small budget. It allows low budget projects (like an animated series) to stretch their animation budget.

Also Wakfus art style is pretty nice, thats why I liked it at least not even the characters, the backrounds are fucking incredible
