Fallout 3 suffered from copy paste locations. There's the same church by the same STA-COM array by the same metro station by the same street of ruined houses dotted all over the place. Don't get me wrong besides the awful navigation DC is great to explore and soak in but again more is not good if it's not unique.

Honest Hearts was my favorite but not really. The quests in HH was over in no time and you had to force yourself to look around if you wanted to add to the content. Thankfully while most of it was a chore stumbling onto one of Randall Clarke's caves was always a treat getting more of his story. He's the second best character in the game and he's dead. Best character goes to pic related but it's a shame he's short lived as a companion.

Yeah, Dead Money shouldn't have been the first released DLC, Obsidian mentioned so later on. I think it was Sawyer.

I've always loved that DLC. It's so top-tier in terms of writing, story and setting. Also the message is sublime, gets told both subtle and frontal to you in all characters. Always been fun when people who hated the DLC hated it because it took away your guns, which in reality was the point of the DLC... finding it is not the hard part... it's letting go.

In Mojave every location is unique, and there are always memorable landmarks, like Helios One, Mojave Outpost or Camp Golf in sight, so it never feels empty

To be honest, New Vegas' exploration isn't terrible, but it's really not at all exciting save for... I honestly can't really think of anything. I guess the quarry was alright?

The Sierra Madre was bretty good though.

Honestly though, you play New Vegas for the story and dialogue. Exploration is an afterthought.

I like to head canon rationalize that the capital of the US would have been bombarded obscenely with many many more nukes than Las Vegas was. This should have led to no buildings standing but another head canon is to assume that they were all built to withstand nuclear blasts.

That many more nukes would have rendered the surrounding landscape much more inhospitable to life.


The Mojave on the other hand, is already a desert and partially a wasteland. Vegas was really the only target for any nukes, so fewer would have been aimed at it. Also Mr house manages do disarm something like all but 9 of the nukes shot at Vegas and the surrounding area. So much less damage and devastation from them.
Of course there's problems with this like old monuments standing in DC, but i just toss that up to Bethesda not really giving a fuck about setting and only wanting to make action games with lite RPG elements.

Because Lorewise, a desert with a few plants 100 years post-war points to the fact that 200 years post-war that a Swampy/forested area should have a ton of plants.

Nukes don't work the way you think they do.

Also, the Potomac, a running river, should be absolutely cleansed after 200 years. The entire plot of FO3 and setting was absofuckinglutely retarded, with and without lore.

Ok, this thing is been bugging me for a while and I want other people opinions and points of view:

Why the fuck does 3 and New vegas use shitty T-45d power armor? That shit is a PROTOTYPE of the T-51b which was use in the war.

Also the fucking energy weapons look like SHIT, I hate the look of those blocky "unfinish" laser and plasma pistols/rifle when all the past games clearly use more advance comercial versions of energy weapons, at least New vegas fix the problem with the Plasma defender and the plasma caster.

I dont know, same shit goes with theDKS-501 sniper rifle in both 3 and NV, why would the old version of the most used weapon ever is the most common?

i like both titles, but id have to say that i lean more towards NV; mod wise NV has a slight advantage. plus it is a lot more stable in a 64bit environment. shit to even get F3 to execute you need to fuck with setting for win 7t.

In Fallout 3 the excuse is that by the time Lion's excursion reached the Pentagon their T-51b was battered to uselessness, which makes no sense because they were designed (and even fueled) to last something like 100/1000 years with no support. So by chance they discovered a massive vault of technology in the Pentagon containing... prototype, obsolete suits. Not a vault of the mass-produced, state-of-the-art T-51b, but the prototypes. What Bethesda was thinking (or smoking) is a mystery.

2. The laser rifle is supposed to look functional. Obviously, it does not. Another mystery from Bethesda. I disagree with you on the plasma weapons, they looked accurate to the style for me.

3. I don't know what the fuck you tried to say with this one, maybe about the generic military sniper rifle from 3 and NV? The AM rifle was likely more limited by whatever factions used it to handling emerging heavy infantry such as power armor, before that the generic sniper rifle was more appropriate. If that isn't what you're talking about then please elaborate.

But they don't, they look like the first energy weapon ever made or homemade, thing is both civilians and militars before the great war already used mass produce energy weapons ( the Wattz series and the Glock for plasma weapons) Stuff like the Q-35 matter modulator is pretty fine since is made from an rocket engine.

About the sniper rifle, both 1 and 2 alongside New vegas says the Gun runners mass produce the lasted model of sniper rifle ( the DKS-501) but instead both games use the very old model of the DKS even when the new model is very easy to get and produce even after the war.

While I dont like Fallout 3 I find it does one thing which NV didn't and disappointed me: Random encounters.

While not perfect they do make the game a little more alive unlike NV which sometimes the Mojave feels empty in your long walkings. Also even when is so dumb that a fucking british would cross the sea I like Allistair Tenpenny (more that anything, the suit) and the Pitt was pretty decent

Ok So here we go, this deals mostly with the plot and such and can for the most part be over looked depending on you dedication to the franchise. This is not really in chronoligical order but rather what came to mind first.

Why can you not choose which side to side with. When I did my chaotic stupid playthrough it made little sense for me to side with the lawful good BoS. The railroading that went on in this game was unacceptable from previous iterations in the series and even with NV. It would make more sense if I could side with the Enclave.

Dr. Li. This is more of a comment on how she was given voice directions and such but holy crap. When you are escaping from the enclave for the first time she is the most schizophrenic person ever. Angry then soft and back around.

Vault 84? and the quest to get the GECK (ignoring the fact that the GECK is only supposed to be a suitcase of seeds, fresh water and some dirt not some Deus ex machina) (the FEV vault) has only two ingress points: A: the entrance, bathed in lethel raidiation, so much so that the only individuals who can move around near it are Super Mutants, centaurs and most likely ghouls. B: Little "fucking" lamplight, a village made up of children that does not even acknowlege how children act around older individuals. Anyone have a younger cousin or two (younger by like ten years) they will latch on to you and worship the ground you walk on not try and kick you out. Sorry I'm getting distracted, the Enclave "ambush" you how do they get around the crazy lethal doses of radiation and the kids who will not open their door? Massive plot hole the size of the Marianas trench.

Yea, that fucking door was ridiculous. There's literally no way to get close to it without using cheats, and even then I think the game doesn't acknowledge it if you use cheats or whatever. They just made the door impossible to get to for the sake of a lame plot point. When they could have just had the Enclave follow you through lamplight, or even just make their own entrance through the ceiling

There was still a contingent at Nevarro, most of which fled to the east when the NCR attacked the base with BoS support. Those who stayed either died or went into hiding, the rest fled with Colonel Autumn. Logs from EDE suggest that there is also an enclave base in Chicago, its members may have joined Autumn when they fled.

NV only had around 15 months of development. When Sawyer said 18, he meant from start to finish, not mentioning testing and the likes, which takes some time, as well as getting the games out etc.

FO3 had 4 years, building the engine was two of them. Still had 9 months more, yet less content.

That being said, FO3 was a good game, but a poor Fallout. I like it.

To be fair, the EDE thing was a bit of a copout too since it was basically forced to acknowledge what FO3 had done, since prior to that, FO2 had more or less implied they were wiped out.

As for the BoS, I think the real problem for people is that they're conflict isn't more focused on. It's just glossed over with "We wanted to be nice to people" and nothing else.
