Get The Adventures of Sir Kicksalot Deathboot in the Land of the Conspicuously Placed Spike Racks for sure.
III, V (+expansions), and Dark Messiah are good. The others are complete trash. It goes on betters sales though, so you might want to wait for Christmas.
Dark Messiah is worth the price now though, it's fantastic.

X Legacy is a great blobber RPG
Heroes V: Tribes of the East is the best Heroes you can get on that list. It's standalone, most feature rich and you can patch the maps from the other two versions in.
Clash of Heroes and Dark Messiah are good games but they're not traditional for the franchise.
I like Heroes 6 but I'm pretty sure I'm alone in that.
3HD is trash, just get 3 Complete on GOG.
7 is laughably unfinished.

Dark Messiah is a criminally overlooked game for some reason. You can safely ignore it's Heroes game in anything but the setting if you pay attention, but it is great all on its own. I just wish it was actually a bit more challenging.

I enjoyed 8 because of the variety of characters you can get, and it gets ridiculously fun when you get a dragon on your party. 9 was okay because for some reason I enjoyed the story. 6 was just my first RPG game I ever played and it has that nostalgia to it. and of course 7 was just godmode, but ultimately difficult to play without divine intervention.

definitely not the strongest of the games, but it was pretty fun nonetheless. Still plenty to do on 8. But I believe that's why they switched the entire game up on 9, plus new game engine, which didn't turn out being the best, but still playable.
