There's a 3rd option too, and completely FREE, and that's FUMBBL. It's the most complete version of blood bowl as well, but the drawback is it's exclusively multiplayer and it doesn't really teach you the game, so you'll have to learn by yourself

Also, matches on FUMBBL can be spectated real time and spectators can chat and play sounds to bully the playing coaches. We usually have 10-15 spectators on our matches, all nerds from our league. If you want to spectate with us just lurk the general and wait for someone to post the link to spectate some match.

No matter what version you play, Blood Bowl's a fantastic ride if you like risk taking. Any action can fail, any action can succeed, both of which can end gloriously.
If you like multiplayer RNG shitfests where your team has a slightly longer life expectancy than an XCOM rookie, Blood Bowl's your game.
I started on BB2, decent for learning, and more active players but plagued with poorly thought out rule changes, lack of interaction and lack of most teams.
Downgraded to CE for all the teams and then some, but worse interface, little community and some of the same issues with interaction.
Downgraded to fummbl, all the teams+, great spectating, rules as written. YOU CAN RECONNECT FROM A D/C, Best /tg/ league. I still play BB2 from time to time, it has graphics and a large shitty player base, but no other advantages.

If you are going to buy BB2 do it right now. Its $18.00 on steam and you get undead, necro, and nurgle 3 teams that should have come with the game, for free.
But you will have to pay for lizards, wood elves, and norse. Lozards and Wood Elves are 2 of the best teams
