Inafune about the Mighty No 9 launch and reception:
>"Well, it's better than nothing."

Is he right /v/?
>>
>>342222114
I've backed the project so they could complete their project and as of yet it's not even completed.

Guess I paid 20 bucks to have years worth of rage and laughter .
>>
>>342222297
You could have just paid nothing and had even more years of laughter.

For example, right now I am laughing at you.
>>
>Unfortunately, we do have two pieces of bad news regarding the Mighty No. 9 release. There were issues regarding the publishing process for the Xbox 360 version of the game, and a certification bug was found in the final round of testing which is delaying the release of that version for several days. Our team has already re-submitted the build to Deep Silver (and to Microsoft), and we expect it to go gold within a few days if all goes according to plan. For the backers who chose that platform we are supplying Steam keys so that those users are not left behind on release day. Once the Xbox 360 version is ready for release we will send out those codes to the relevant backers ASAP.
>
>The Mac/Linux Steam builds of the game are also in final testing by Deep Silver. These two versions of the game should be ready within a few days as well. We will keep our backers updated as the situation evolves.

Friendly reminder he snuck in ONE LAST DELAY.

I played a fuck ton of CapCom games made by Inafune and I never fell for the meme.

I was incredibly skeptical of him actually making this game good. He effectively killed Mega Man and made a worse Dead Rising 2 than a Vancouver studio did (in which they actually put in a mode people wanted Free Roam).

It's neo/v/ they like shitty games like Overwatch and unironically and hypd this game and funded it.

I paid $15 and I'm glad I did.

For one, it's funny to see just how incompetent a dev team can be and be part of the problem. The highs were high, and lows were even lower, and it was glorious.

For two, it was also a good precautionary tale for future crowdfunding games. Yooka-Laylee had a proof of concept before the kickstarter was kicked off, and when Bloodstained had a similar issue with the art style, they decided to come up with different options for the fans to choose instead of just rolling with their original choice. I feel like MN9 helped these decisions because no one wants to look like that. Sure, we'll still get the Indivisible and Shenmue 3, but I think MN9's disaster will prove better in the long run for aspiring crowdfunding projects.

And for three, I only paid $15. I don't feel bad about $15 that I spent 3 years ago. Now I'd be telling a different tale if I spent hundreds or thousands, but that's not my problem.

It's true that nowadays, 4 million isn't a whole lot to work with.

But on the flip side, there's tons of better looking, better playing indie games and crowdfunded games that barely got even a fraction of what MN9 got. I think that's the big deal here.

Inafune got paid and he probably pocketed a good amount of leftover money, because there's no way $4m was actually spent on this pile of hot garbage.

He doesn't give two shits about what happens, he's a scam artist. He's onto the next bigger and better thing and he'll come into money yet again because the average "gamer" has an attention span of 15 seconds.

I never was the biggest megaman fan so I didn't know who the fuck Inafune was when the kickstarter cropped up.
So I looked it up and found out that he was actually really minor in the grand scheme of the megaman, didn't take on bigger roles until later in the franchise, and really had little to do with what made the classic games (which he was trying to emulate) as good as they were.
And then I looked further and found out that his recent history with Capcom was sketchy, he constantly denounces the japanese vidya industry and praises the western industry, etc.
And so I found it reasonable to doubt his intentions from the very beginning.
Even then I never figured everything would turn out to be the hilarious shitshow that it was, however.

I played all the main series Mega Man games last year and loved them. After finishing 10 three times though, I knew there was no where else to go with the series. It was done, and should have remained done.

What is it with videogames where people just want to beat a dead horse? Sometimes you just have to move on.

I steered clear of the Mega Man franchise when it was relevant because they were all exactly the same and there was a new one every fucking year. It's always been a creatively bankrupt series that doesn't excel at anything. It's mediocre as a platformer, it's mediocre as an action game, it's mediocre as a run 'n gun, etc. It's a shit franchise that was only ever beloved because of dumb kids too stupid to know any better who continued to support the series in its millions of iterations due to blind nostalgia, and it's sad that it took slapping a new name on it to get people to realize that it's shit.

>>342231624
Outside of Shovel Knight, not many games have really scratched my action platformer itch since Mega Man 10. They don't necessarily have to be Mega Man clones, just good platformers in their own right.
