All of the characters had certain characteristics that wildly differed from the others, all of them felt alive. Also everything aside, when do you get to see how old people act or can become after suffering through life. Old people are almost always ignored in media, games and movies alike or made into stereotypes. Kreia was a fully fledged character not only as a jedi but also as an old woman with strong principles.

later you can ask atton about this and he says its a way for him to shield his mind from jedi. you dont really understand it and so he asks you to play pazaak with him. after youre done he says "so what were you concentrating on" which you say pazaak.
he tells you thats exactly what he means, when you concentrate on something like that you dont leave your mind open to force sensitives who are trying to read your mind and see where youre going to strike next, and if you are playing pazaak in your head thats all they read. so any time hes around them he plays pazaak, or counts engine ticks in his head so they wont know what hes trying to do next.

You are completely right but I think you misunderstood what I was saying. Kreia is not wise at all, nor did I imply that its a great thing to have an old character for the sake of having an old character. On the contrary, you can see how being old has affected her mind and reasoning negatively and I like this in Kotor 2. Old people are actually old, they their stories and experience but are also stubborn and have firm beliefs and principles they won't change. Think about the cast of Kotor2 for a second. All of them undergo some form of change, they learn something with you, both about you and themselves. Kreia is the only stick in the mud, she won't change, she believes she knows everything. She believes that everyone is dancing in her grand scheme. But it doesn't turn out that way does it. In the end, she is weak and revels in this idea when she finally dies at the core.
So what you say is true, a hateful woman just grew into a more hateful version of herself when she grew older. Hence, characters in Kotor 2 are great.

Yup, that's pretty much it. I love Kreia and think of her as one of the best written characters but many people seem to misunderstand her as a deep philosophical characters. I absolutely loved this scene and also the idea when I first saw it. I really went on to shw how much the writers cared about the world and characters they created. Star Wars has always focused entirely on a basic definition of Good vs. Evil. You have the hero who goes on a quest and beats the dark lord bla bla bla... But characters like Atton, Visas and even Sion were so powerful that I thought I was taking the backseat when talking with them. I loved how the story did not solely focus on you and make you into the heroic figure and focused on this cast of misfits from the entire galaxy.
I mean come on, nowadays when we say a cast of misfits, all of them are somehow funny have simple characteristics. This is the angry one, this is the non-human one. This is the wise- cracking one. I finished replaying this a while ago and it finally dawned on me how much the planets suck in this game. I played through KotOR 2 my second time (with years in between my first) on hard. The only thing I literally could not do was the Mandalore sparring, but I was also playing a consular.

kotor 1 is also a pretty good game. So would say better designed because they had more money and time. Bioware was also good back then.
Kotor 2 has definitely the best characters though. Only a few are memorable in the first Kotor. The story in Kotor 1 is also extremely lackluster apart from that one twist that everyone's grandma knows by now. It relies too much on the distinction and separation of good vs. evil, it is a Lucas story, if Lucas was actually competent that is.
Kotor 2 is beloved because it is so different from the family friendly and simplistic star wars that people are used to. It is far more realistic as far as emotions and ideologies are concerned.

It's just the second playthrough that gets to people since a story of mystery cannot hold the same weight because of limitations of the mystery genre.
Yeah, my only real problems with Nar Shaddaa was that so much shit was dependent on it that you could miss out if you did it as your first planet. (EG: No HK bots chasing you, so no HK factory, a few other shit)
