Remember when indie games were physics-based funfests instead of zero effort 'story on rails' hipster platformers?

I remember when they were free too

When did "indie" become a codeword for "sidescroller available for $20 on steam" and "read my Interactive queer studies thesis for only $9.99"?

>When did "indie" become a codeword for "sidescroller available for $20 on steam" and "read my Interactive queer studies thesis for only $9.99"?

When an entire generation of numales who majored in feminist studies and minored in game design grew up and started buying each other's games with their trust funds

Remember when Cortex Command was never properly released and instead just kind of petered out until they slapped a "1.0" on it?
>>
Remember when indie meant "anything not by an AAA dev that covers a whole range of games, a portion of which are shitty walking simulators"?

No? Me either
>>
>>339482103
man, what a waste. Why they never bothered to finish it is beyond me, since the core gameplay was there and it was fun as fuck, jesus
>>
>>339480925
fuck that game looks so cool

sadly I never quite understood the controls

did it have online mulitplayer?
I forgot
>>
>>339481650
Sorry anon, I actually did mean agency. I guess some part of my brain never lost the hope that we would get nation.
Although I know that a beta version exists, you swedish fuck, just gimme.

Seems like the dev had been slowly working on it forever and after a while his interest just whittled away. Real fucking shame.
>>

Thing is, i've played, and even enjoyed, plenty of small indie games about sexuality, or by feminist game makers, but they weren't something that the makers charged for. Game makers like AuntiPixelante never charged you for a neat little platformer that also happened to be a metaphor for bondage and lesbian relationships, you could just download and enjoy them. I can't believe someone decided to charge money for things with less gameplay and even less to actually say.
>>
>>339482294
Online multiplayer probably isn't really feasible, because you'd have to sync every single pixel of terrain between the different players.
>>
>>339480925
was cortex command anything other than "worms but all the characters stumble like retards"?
>>
>>339482667
Way more going on at once, a campaign map, dropships and shite, base attack and defense, resource collection and spending. Its not exactly an RTS, but its definitely not worms.
>>
>>339482481
wasn't it also the issue of making a proper ai that won't shit itself with all the pixel-destruction going on?
>>
>>339482228

>Was in high school when it was "free alpha"
>I cant even tell the difference between finish and the free version
At least I got it in a bundle, still fun as shit to play once in awhile.
>>
>>339482667
Worms but real time and more of a physics sandbox
>>
>>339480925
>physics-based
eughhh
>>
>>339482954
Don't know, but I can imagine that something like that would be a problem. Atleast the AI has gotten a little better at not crushing their on stuff with landing vehicles since I started playing a long time ago
>>
>>339483280
Buzzword of yesteryear but I'd take it any day over "survival", "crafting", or "charming puzzle platformer with retro style graphics"

Did you guys ever try filling a drop crate with a few hundred crabs (since they don't cost anything)? You get some pretty interesting results.

Why the FUCK do these morons keep insisting on making fucking shit and deeming anyone not buying said shit any bad word under the horizon whilst cyber-stalking their Twatters?

Seriously, fuck off, be fucking innovative, don't give me fucking amateur story hour.

I used to play versus with a friend, where we each had our own base. We quickly had to ban crab-loaded bunker busters (crate with fuckload of crabs + one bomb) because each of the little crab particles would chew through a bit of any material.

Holy shit, that game was glorious.

It had probably the best 2D physics system in video games (and still does)
