So, uh, Aoi's birthday is on the 31st January and I'm planning to translate 2 Aoi-centric books and scan 1-2 art books. Gulf Standard from Yuri Project is helping so he'll work on one book and I'll work on the other one (Secret x Secret 2 or the lewd IchiAo). My only concern is I need a 2nd cleaner.

If any bored cleaner is hanging around these threads, I need your help.

Crossposted from yuru yuri thread:
Any interest in translating this enormous HimaSaku volume from Kanbayashi Makoto, of NozoEri and HimaSaku fame? It looks angsty, honest, and passionate like her other works and the art is on point. I guess it's old but she uploaded it last April, so let's have at it before it gets lost to the pixiv Abyss. There are other complete doujins in her page too.

p125
>From the moment the prince died,

Kinda changes the meaning a little bit (ie. Ever since the bear died, they became friends). Try going with:
Well then, let's resume...
from the point where the prince had died...
and the bear maid and bear princess became friends.

p130
>I can remember them bit by bit
Maybe "I can only remember them bit by bit" would work better? Like she's agreeing with lifebear?

I don't know how you're getting "Ever since the bear died, they became friends" out of that.

"From the point where the prince had died and the bear maid and bear princess became friends" isn't even a sentence.
>>
>>1954576
That's why I took out the capitalization and added ...s, so it follows on from what Sexy said.
The dialogue is stating that this is the point in the story Sexy is picking up from, while in its current form it reads like they became friends at the exact moment Milne died (which, regardless of it being technically what happened, isn't what's being said here) .
>>
>>1954643
Oh I see now. I'll see what I can do with it tomorrow.

>As for the title, it sounds like it could be something along the lines of "Something About Toshinou Kyouko"

Really?
http://ejje.weblio.jp/content/だもの
だもの is the same thing as だもん - indicate reason; infers some protest. The title the becomes something like "Because I'm Toshino Kyouko". To paraphrase: "I'm Toshino Kyouko, What Did You Expect?".
>>
>>1956592
Well it's certainly not something Kyouko's saying, cos "Toshinou Kyouko" is Ayano's shtick. That, and it's probably different in that it's のことだもの, which google ironically translates as "thing thing".
Best leave it untranslated if you're not 100% sure.
>>
>>1956594
I didn't read the actual doujin, so I didn't know who was saying it. Just modify it accordingly. (Because It's Toshino Kyouko).

のこと after a person's name is used to imply "everything about that person" or "that person's specific characteristics". Of course Google Translate doesn't recognize this.

For the record, the difference between こと (事) and もの (物) is that 物 refers to physical things (e.g. book) and 事 to non-physical (e.g. reading - the activity). Of course both have million other uses (like you see with のこと and だもの), but this is the basic distinction. Again, Google Translate doesn't recognize it.

More about だもの (だもん).
http://www.italki.com/question/302161

Is usage of Google Translate common on /u/?
>>
>>1956598
Probably not among the more talented translations, but I do use it for looking at single words (eg. if there's a kanji I can't pick up with the reader, I can use Google's handwriting tool to (attempt to) find out what it is). Naturally it shouldn't be used for entire sentences.

I'd say it's probably "The Thing About Toshinou Kyouko". "Because" is more of a
だから kind of thing.

Kana on its own can be kinda tricky since it can sometimes have various meanings depending on context.
>>
>>1956600
Why are you resisting the fact that だもの simply means "because" -- indicate reason; infers some protest?

そのため does too, それ故 as well. "Because" isn't just だから.

I use Google Translate incessantly, though obviously not for the translations themselves, which have gifted me such gems as "the attempt to allosolving more than anyone" and "the Nau is broken."

I thought maybe "But It's Toshinou Kyouko" for the title? Though basically anything would work.

The "like" (presumably 好き) on 4 could use some work, there's probably a better way to do that. Are there raws for this? I could double-check the translation.

Or how about this?
>>
>>1957124
My only concern with that would be that hearing the single word "like" in isolation and immediately taking it as a confession is almost psychopathic, whereas thinking it about 好き would be relatively reasonable.
>>
>>1957130
Honestly I'm fine with any option as long as it clearly shows Ayano's misunderstanding. I'll release the final version after you guys decide what to go with.

Also, I'm still confused as to what the title should be. Please clarify, so I can try and redraw the title page accordingly. Thanks!
>>
>>1957119
I think it just moves the awkwardness elsewhere rather than solving it. You and your aren't easily confusable unless you're talking funny or slurred your words or something. But mainly, saying, "I like your options" when you're offering someone something is definitely really weird.

Ayano is 100% definitely not confusing Kyouko for having maybe asked her out. She's just using going out as an example to describe what sort of "like" she thinks she may have heard. As I put earlier, something like:
>Like? Like.. as in going out and stuff? That sort of thing?

>>1957130
Ayano's quick to get flushed over little things, so I don't think it's unreasonable to that extent. Though it's certainly abnormal.

>>1957124
I think I might kind of like this one. Maybe a little improvement over just "Like"

So, uh, two things:

Title of the doujin is 寝れないふたり or "The two who can't sleep." Is there a better/catchy way of translating it?

And what's ぽっん? Silence? Sounds like the SFX of Aoi dropping her duffel bag, but the ellipses imply the sound still persists and not instant.
>>
>>1960499
Make that three.

御殿 has two dots above each kanji. Any idea what they're for?
>>
>>1960499
Something like "The Restless Duo" or something along those lines?

ぽっん could be Aoi's disappointment that Ichigo isn't there.

I'm not the group's cleaner, but I can tell there are lots of rough edges like the page is still grainy, you forgot to change to grayscale (for smaller file size as well), the blacks aren't really black, etc. Here's our cleaned page for comparison.

What you did right is you managed to redraw the pages and any gaps you missed will be covered by the typesetting anyways.

Yep.
White still has some dust on it that will need to be manually removed (well, almost manually; leveling whites some more can help), image is slightly off and needs to be rotated, and that black line up there should've been cropped out before you resized the image, but overall you're done with the basics.

Now quit before it's too late. Cleaning isn't fun.
>>
>>1961314

What (>>1961322) is trying to say is that the leveling looks alright, but there is some manual cleanup and adjustment needed.
>>
>>1961322
>>1961323
I see that on the top, but does it really need to be rotated more? And that dust is only visible with extra leveling layer, it should be cleared too?
>>
>>1961329
I'm not the person you've been talking with, but it all depends on your preference and the preference of the person that wants it cleaned.
If you want it done well, then yes you should do all that.

I, personally, would just remove that black line at the top, cover any visible dust, and call it a day. The alignment isn't too off on that image in my opinion.

Slightly, yes. Use a guide and put it close to the border of right panels, you'll see that they are not completely parallel to the guide.

>And that dust is only visible with extra leveling layer, it should be cleared too?
Of course. Don't you know that most people read manga in Photoshop, with 300% zoom and adjustment layers turned on?
Joking aside, invisible dust slightly affects the image size. That's about all it does, and even then the difference is insignificant, so if you don't want to clear everything out, don't. Leaving small (and I mean small, not like >>1961278) amount of dust is okay, though some scanlation groups would disagree.

I'm planning to translate this

http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=51339501

for Valentine's Day. The book is fairly short and if you read NOTO-san's other books, her stories are brief with little dialogue. I think this is a good way for you to sharpen your skills.

Unfortunately, I can't link you the raws right now since I have to rip and scan the pages first. On top of that we're currently working on two books for Aoi's birthday this 31st. If you can give me your email, I'll contact you and link you the scans directly when it's ready. [email protected]

>Why don't you ask the person yourself~
You should ask that to the person herself~
Still unsure if this is the correct translation. I kinda assumed it was Chitose reacting to real Ayano saying this instead of fantasy Ayano, but that dialect is a bitch.

Also, "Why don't you ask..." and "Geez, Ayano-chan" go in the same bubble. It's missing the line about her glasses.

It is. If she were to say it Tokyo style it would go, "そんなの本人に聞いたらいいじゃん"

But, it should go "Why don't you/you should ask the person herself"
That "to" sounds foreign.

>Yui-senpai's "that" (her tea) was so hot
Maybe just dropping "that" altogether would work better in English? "Yui-senpai's (tea) was so hot/warm"
>>
>>1961413
She uses アレ so she definitely refers to something vague to make things lewd. I'm thinking either "that" or "you-know-what".
>>
>>1961453
Yeah, I just thought that maybe just "Yui-senpai's was so hot/warm", dropping "that" and just having Chinatsu leave out and bracket the "tea" would still get that feeling across while sounding more natural, but reading it over again now, it sounds off as well. "(Person)'s that" does sound awkward in English. "You-know-what" might be not bad.

This is fairly common in Japanese, where furigana is given to a word or phrase even though it's not matching the words used. It's used like this in numerous ways, such as to provide context or clarify something, as it is in this case. You read it このこえ(not こえこえ), but it says いちごの声 just to make it clear who's thoughts you're reading. Something like that. It can be used to give translation for foreign words, for cool effect, simple alternative to a complex word and more.

Couple examples.
黒い森 - furigana:シュバルツバルト (Schwarzwald)
火竜 - furigana:サラマンダー
自分の罪 - furigana:シンジツ
>>
>>1961786
Indeed, they've been taking ages to add it (along with the recent chapters of SwapSwap). I guess the upload who regularly checks the request list is off or something.

>>1961797
It's one of those double meaning kinda things. In this case, the main part reads "Ichigo's voice too" while the subpart reads "this voice". It's the same thing as when they do the ol' chunibyo habit of adding English readings to kanji, but it is a bit of a pain when it comes to deciding what to put down in an English translation. In this case, I don't think it particularly matters either way.

It should be "Comiket" that's the biggest piece of text, since Ayano's saying the loudness of Kyouko's voice is proportional to the sadness of what she's saying.

It's just there for emphasis and seems to be pretty thingy considering it is "literally" on the same page. Translation doesn't always have to be 1:1.

>than I was before
That's actually gramatically incorrect unless you change the prior part of "I'm closer to"

>I don't really think wa~ah fits this sound.
*wooooooosh*

>Sounds a bit silly I think
It's Toshinou Kyouko. What do you expect?
>>
>>1963861
>So something like "Comuket is something I'll be going to..."? (note Comuket is the YRYR version of Comiket)
As long as "Comuket" is in the biggest font as opposed to "I am" since Ayano's treating going to comuket as something sad. Though yeah, it might sound better like that with comuket at the front of the sentence.

>That's actually gramatically incorrect unless you change the prior part of "I'm closer to"
No, it's fine. It's "I think I've gotten closer to" that comes before it. Though even if it were just "I'm closer to Kyouko" "than I was before" would still be fine.
You can google "closer to * than i was before" to see a number of examples of it in use if you like.

Digital RAWs don't have dust, only artifacts if they're in .jpg.
Dust is basically the "artifacts" of printing (and sometimes scanning, if whoever scanned the RAWs screwed up). It's damn right near impossible to have pure white and black colors printed on the kind of paper manga (and most books, too) uses, from cheap magazines to tankoubons, though the latter have significantly less dust when scanned, since the quality of paper and printing is higher.

Here you are Goggled Anon: YKA 17 and the Vol.2 Omake.

I would appreciate if you look look at Life Sexy and Life Cool's last bubbles on the last page of the Omake. Not sure what they are talking about there.

Also, I noticed that Dynasty has the Vol.1 Omake not after chapter 8.

Anyway, links:

For the omake

>There are three "Suzuki-san"'s in my class alone
"Suzuki-san"s or Suzuki-sans (no apostrophe)

>Well, putting Sexy aside...
Well, Sexy is fine as it is...

>Is that okay...?
>You sure about that...?

Ch17 looks fine.

Why not have Starlight higher and positioned on the right? People would be reading the rest right to left anyways, so chances are more people would initially try to read the sign right to left instead of left to right.

The original text is this and I kinda figured anyone would naturally read the first word from the top then down.
>>
>>1966431
Yeah, but there isn't enough space in English. I just think that if people are reading this, they'll be used to reading this manga right to left and when they see Starlight on the left but higher, it's sort of a conflict of expectations. On one hand, anyone would naturally assume that things would be read from top to bottom, but on the other hand, they've been reading this whole doujin from right to left up until now. I think it would make more sense to keep Starlight on top, but move it to the right.

looking for any nice, bored, loving people who'd like to help translate an untranslated yuri visual novel "A Kiss For The Petals - Snow White's Knight" (https://vndb.org/v12645).

all scripts have been extracted and are available on the yuri project wiki website for anyone to translate / modify: http://wiki.yuriproject.net/wiki:shirayuki_no_kishi

i posted some patched clips of what's already translated on youtube to get more ppl interested & aware of this vn. enjoy this random yuri scene and any contribution to this project would really help!:

Hmm, I think it does work better left to right. The right to left rule largely applies to the panels and bubbles; we still read the text within each bubble in the proper English way, and the sign could be considered its own bubble.
But I understand if you're just 'fuck it' at this point and wanna leave it as is.
>>
>>1966449
I read it right to left, Even the old one (monastery starlight). Just letting you know.

Is it better to use text boxes for typesetting or just break lines manually?
>>
>>1951738
N04h translated some stuff for me, anyone want the scripts for editing? Asked Y-ism and they said they'll ask around, but got no other answer after two weeks now.
The works are a two parter Honou to Ame (Fire and Rain) and Yuujin A no Soukanzu (The Correlation Chart of My Friend A) by Mikage Sekizai and two final chapters Dorodoro to Koi (Mix-ups and Love) by Gyuunyuu Linda and Honesty by Cloba.U. They're nothing too fancy, but I'd like to share them.
Do you guys have any way to contact you? Checked the blog, but haven't found anything there.

If you're interested in cleaning art books as well, I got 2-3 books lying around that needs to be stitched together and cleaned. Like this one: http://lazylily.moe/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/NNNNN.png

I'm in quite a fix (I think this is translation thread related).

Codeyamada/Yamada Beta just sent me a C&D letter stating I take off her works from my website. Normally I'm an asshole and ignore her, but she threatened to stop making books of certain favorite couples.

What shall I do?

Share it without credits and group name. What you aim is for everyone to enjoy Aikatsu and like the artist more right, not climbing the pedestal?
>>
>>1969038
Aye. I just sent the author a letter and see how things go. If I have heart left in me, I'll take down the links and host any new one under a different name or be completely anonymous.

I will continue hosting these doujinshi in Lazy Lily until they send a C&D letter, rinse and repeat.

This is more of just a general phrase. A 'good luck' sort of thing expressing hopes that you continue to work hard; a wish for your success. Fairly similar to 頑張ってください.

Oh yeah, sorry. I exaggerated that phrase a bit.

Regarding the possible collab, this will never happen. It was nice of her to give me a sort of compromise, but after that initial negative email, the gaijin-nipp collab thing will never, ever happen. Sometimes I can't tell these Japanese are polite or plain sarcastic.

Out of interest, for those who use my TLs for typesetting, what would you say is the best way to distinguish text that appears in the corner or edge of a bubble like pic related? Like, do I keep it in the same line:
>Honestly, Sharo-chan, you were so rough<3<3 Ufufu

or as a seperate break?
>Honestly, Sharo-chan, you were so rough<3<3
>Ufufu

I know it's called a lil confusion before where TSers would put the minitext in the next bubble, causing a knock-on effect with the rest of the dialogue.

Separate break, and use a different font like this one:
>>
>>1976550
I meant from the translation side of things, ie. conveying to the TSer where everything goes. Notepad/Pastebin only has a basic font and you can't use bold and italics.
>>
>>1976553
>>1976557
Oh. Still going for the second option. Splitting the lines will give the TS'ers an idea what the translator's intents are. Plus they have access to the scans and use them as visual aides. Unless the scans are cleaned by wiping off the texts, you have to leave a note like "ufufu" is separate and uses a different font, etc.

Additionally, do you don't mind we're pushing for "no chill" for Aoi's "odayaka janai"? Our recent Odayaka translation is a good example to showcase "no chill". The more popular "this is something special" is not catchphrase-ey enough and we thought "no chill" has that charm and is flexible.

First half:

仲良し双子姉妹の、“ほんとう”の気持ち
Loving twin sisters, their "true" feelings.

仲のいい双子の姉妹“佐倉 一果(さくらいちか)” と“佐倉 双葉(さくらふたば)”。
生真面目で少し頑固な一果と、人懐っこく子どもっぽい双葉は
家族も友人たちも、時に呆れるほど仲がいい。
Sakura Ichika (serious and somewhat stubborn) and Sakura Futaba (friendly, youthful) are twin sisters
who get along so well that their family and friends become astonished at times.

幼い頃からどこに行くのも何をするのも一緒だったふたり。
成長して、お互いの性格や嗜好に個性が出てきてからもそれは変わらない。
家でも校内でも、しっかりものの一果が甘えん坊の双葉の世話を焼く光景が日常となっていた。
No matter where they go or what they do, those two have always been together from a young age.
Even after their surroundings change around them while growing up, their relationship still remains the same.
There's never a day where Ichika (firm) isn't around Futaba (pampered), be it at home, school, or anywhere.
>>
>>1982065
Second half:

だがある日、あまりにもお互いにべったりの姉妹を心配した母親に、
仲がいいことと依存することは違うと、
いくら仲がいい姉妹でもいつまでも一緒にいられるわけではないのと、
そう諭されたことによって、ふたりの関係は少しずつ変わっていく。
But one day, their mother started to worry about them since they've been hanging around each other excessively.
She warns them that getting along and relying on one another are two different things,
and that no matter how close they are as sisters, it is not possible to stay together forever.
After that, their relationship gradually begins to change bit by bit.

「双葉の喜ぶ顔を見たい」という姉としての気持ちの裏にある自らの欲と
“普通ではない” 許されない気持ちに苦悩する一果。
「一果ともっとずっと一緒にいたい」という自分の気持ちとは裏腹に
すれ違っていくふたりの関係に焦りを覚える双葉。
On the other side of Ichika's feelings of "wanting to see Futaba's smiling face" are her worries of
her personal desires considered unforgivable and "not normal."
Contrary to Futaba's feelings of "wanting to always be together with Ichika" is her
presence of mind lost in their diverging relationship.

姉妹として持つ以上の、秘めた気持ちを抱くふたりの関係は
一体どのようなカタチをとり、どのような結末を迎えるのか――?
Their bond that harbors hidden emotions beyond that of sisters...
What form will it take? And what kind of conclusions will come out of it all――?

佐倉 双葉 《さくら ふたば》 / Sakura Futaba

人懐っこく素直で騒がしくて元気で、直感で生きるあほの子。
あまり常識にとらわれず思ったとおりに行動するタイプ。成績はあまりよくない。
むしろ一果ができるからいいやくらいに思っている。
A friendly, honest, energetic, silly girl who lives on intuition.
Acts outside of common sense. Grades aren't so good but has Ichika help out.

御影 百合 《みかげ ゆり》 / Mikage Yuri

「わたしと沙希だって、一果や双葉とは幼稚園からの腐れ縁だからね。
いろんなことを察するもんさ」
"Saki and I have had an inseparable relationship with Ichika and Futaba since kindergarten.
You can pretty much guess the rest."

軽めで飄々とした、ちょっとおっさんも入った性格で、
女子のぱんつを楽しみにしたり、「沙希のおっぱいはわたしが育てた」などと豪語する。
Has a light, aloof, and somewhat middle-aged man personality
where she likes to enjoy girl's panties and boasts about things like "I nurtured Saki's breasts."
