>>
>>72113043
If that was the company's projection, it really goes to show what little faith they had in this piece of shit.

They just wanted to see if feminism was a good alternative to marketing. Considering it hasn't even made half its just-past-mid budget and was in second place behind a fucking CG dog movie, Sony's already pretty sure it didn't really work out that well.

Sony is just desperate to create a franchise and they're too stupid/conservative to try and create something new so they just look for ways to bring new audiences to existing IPs.

>How about we make Annie black: Niggers will see that, right?
>How about we put vaginas in Ghostbusters: Women will see that, right?
>How about we merge Men in Black with Jump Street: Teenagers will see that, right?

They shamelessly think they can make superficial changes and the original fans will still be up for the ride as well as finding new markets. Their executives are completely out of touch and the reason they're such an awful studio.

No. Marketing budgets are usually several times more than production.

Also, Feig himself said anything less than 500m will be a failure.
>>
>>72113487
Sure, but it seems pretty goddamned desperate on Sony's part nonetheless. Especially considering the first large chunk of Men in Black specifically showed you how specific the MIB were at choosing agents. Sure, they ended up picking Will Smith because he could run, but K still had to convince Z and even then he only caved because of how long K'd been there.

At this pace it's on track to only do about 150 mil, if that. Go look at how much actual successful blockbusters make opening weekend. It's far more than what Fembusters made.

I prefer Generation Snowflake cuz they can't handle a fucking thing. Safe space needing pussies whining about college cuz they have to read.
>>
>>72112875
Why?

Based on what?

Isn't that number an estimated expectation of Feig in one of his ramblings about the films success as a female led cast? Was he talking about the film breaking even financially or something else?
>>
>>72113916
Common sense.

Production budget of $144 million
Undisclosed marketing budget but let's be conservative and say $100 million, (though no doubt substantially higher) Which means it needs to make $244 million to break even. Studios don't make 100% of the dollars a film earns at the box office as obviously it's shared between theaters and percentages are different for international markets due to sharing with the local distributors. It probably doesn't need to gross exactly $500 million to break even but that'd be a pretty reasonable ball park figure.

It's a good example of which it's so fucking insane to spend so much money on a film's production and marketing. Bloated budgets have destroyed cinema. I've no doubt the script absolutely did not need a budget of $150 million to be produced.

Protip: Breaking even is not the objective. Profit is.

If it takes weeks to break even, then it's a failure of a movie.

No one is arguing that, mate. They're just highlighting that this film has an uphill battle to even break even at this point.

I wish you were right. There are people here right now who are convinced that making a penny more than its budget will make this a rousing success worthy of a sequel in producers' eyes.

>>
>>72113916
Because "box office" isn't an oversized comedy check delivered to the studio. The theaters and other channel partners take their cuts too. Then you have marketing budgets to consider, international release fees etc--many more sinkholes for potential profit to fall into.
>>

Marketing.

Merchandising.

The cut cinemas take.

500 million might be exaggerating but it's a ballpark figure.

Breaking even isn't considered breaking even because of opportunity cost. Generally speaking a movie has to make at least twice it's budget to be considered not a failure in any way. Unless the movie suddenly gains traction via word of mouth it's pretty fucked because studio execs just care about the bottom line and have been expecting this to be a lost cause for a bit now.

Generation X and Baby Boomers.
Millennials aren't the problem with the world because they are all under 25 and have zero fucking power in this world. Baby Boomers are the ones who were told they were the greatest generation and fucked up their kids and ran this place into in the current position. Gen X are the ones currently starting to running this place and fucking it up.

Can't blame shit on millennials yet. But they will fuck up, and it will largely be because the Baby boomers/gen X parents were too afraid to let them play outside and thought a Nintendo/internet could babysit them instead.

>>72113043
It's not a total disaster like Waterworld or anything, but it's likely a moderate to small loss when all is said and done.

Keep in mind that movies with similar outcomes have gotten sequels before since studios bank on the recent memory/momentum to carry it and they also usually have the contracts lined up for a few movies in a franchise as a safety thing.

I doubt this will get one, but it's not entirely impossible knowing Sony.

Trump still has an ace in the hole with the debates. Hillary ran the entire primaries practically unchallenged because every democrat in Washington is literally scared of her and all the power she has. If Bernie proved anything its that you can find some success in challenging her hyper controlled message, he was just weighed down by all his own idiotic, unrealistic beliefs.

Trump plays offense though. He's gonna attack Hillary about every scandal that leftist news organizations have been trying to cover up. He'll bring up Bill's rapes, her emails, her disastrous foreign policy, and all the money she's taken for foreign powers and big banks, all to her face at the debates. Then one of two things will happen. Either she'll crumble into a stuttering mess and get caught up in her web of scandals and lies, or we'll finally see the crack in the façade where she takes on Trumps rhetoric that she's been demonizing for the past year. He'll have broken her and her image, and it'll be amazing to watch.

Women are fine.
Feminists aren't. They're girls who could never get over not being allowed to play with the cool boys in kindergarden because they said she had cooties.

Go away, Feig.

Even with the generous estimates. It has a worse open weekend gross than Scary Movie 3.

Adjusted for inflation it's worse than Wild Wild West, kek.
>>
>>72118356
wild wild west was kino u faggot
>>
>>72117699
what? Not its not. Not for a film with that budget. Movies most of the time make around a little less than half their total gross opening weekend. This movie even opened on Thursday night in a lot of places and still didn't do well.

Kino or no kino. It flopped.

To even remotely compare Gurlbusters needs to make $1.45 Billion.

>It's not a total disaster like Waterworld or anything,

Waterworld did very well. It's just that during production the budget ballooned to a then insane 200+ million. It was never going to make its money.

The fucking NEETS on this board also forget that regular people (i.e. Those who actually pay to see films) have shit to do during the week.

The number is an estimate, we don't really know how much yet.

Even with the high estimates, second week drop off plus the competition coming in makes it now a race to break even in the investment for Ghostbusters.

And then after all that it'll be working its way to be profitable.

And that is with the career/jerb that they went into, to do this and get paid for it.
