Post remakes that you think are better than the originals, I'll post a few, feel free to debate. (I know you will anyway)

I couldn't get into the original Hills Have Eyes, it wasn't bad, the idea there was great and I think the remake really fulfilled what the original wanted to do with the newer technology etc. The family in the first one seems too, idk, "Hillbilly" esque rather than irradiated effects of atomic testing.

I mean the 80's one was better than the 50's one. The 2011 version is just a decent compliment to the 80's one.

You're just a nostalgia fag. Re-watch the first Halloween's again and I'm almost positive you'll change your tune. Evil Dead: remake is even better than the original because the dark humor is subtle. I think you're the one with shit taste anon.

>>
>>72072625
nostalgia is the worst argument

the Halloween remake isn't terrible but it cannot generate suspense nearly as well as the original, the fact that you prefer the zombie version means you probably have ADD and can't handle any films older than 1980

the Evil Dead remake misses the entire point of the franchise and plays the whole thing too straight. not terrible but not fun or well directed at all.

>>72072712
Ironically, I actually have adhd, maybe that explains it. Suspense is overrated in my opinion, but I enjoy many movies older than 80's, shout out to The Town That Dreaded Sundown. But with the evil dead remake it's twofold:
>modern audiences can't handle evil dead 2 schlock
>evil dead 1 did not age well

The remake plays it straight in tone only. That immortal Jesus guy makes .e laugh every time he never dies, and by killing the hero they save themselves from having Ash as a superhero. I enjoyed it because the special effects were on point, and it's much better paced. I like the original, but I respect what the remake accomplished.
>>
>>72072625
Not that anon but I re-watched Halloween less than two weeks ago and besides Laurie's stupidity it perfectly holds up. The remake is a load of fucking shit that only drooling retards could prefer. It completely ruins Michael Myers and it replaces the suspense of the original with gore and "FUCK".

yeah that makes sense, you probably like Alien over Aliens and T2 over The Terminator too

Evil Dead one holds up incredibly well because of the fun experimental camera angles and fun low budget practicals, the new film just comes across as one step above generic.
>>
>>72073079
I'm a huge John Wayne nostalgia guy, but I can step outside that and agree with you.

>>

I don't think you're right or wrong, they're equally good films.
>>
>>72073141
>the new film just comes across as one step above generic.
That not anon but I wouldn't be that dismissive of the remake. It's nowhere near as great as the original Evil Dead films but it's pretty good. It's far better than 99% of 21st century horror remakes although that isn't saying much.
>>
>>72073141
You nailed it, fair enough, I guess the problem is on my end. In all honesty, I mostly enjoy practical special effects. Most horror movies are shallow in terms of plot, and suspense often comes off as forced as a result of technical limitations. The Conjuring, on the other hand, was really fucking good, but it might just be that subsonic bass making me think it's better than it is.
>>
>>72073085
Not baiting.

I think it's the soundtrack combined with higher production values that just works so many times better for me.

>>
>>72071746
I get that film is subjective but it's practically fact that the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is better than the remake in every single way. I have no idea how anyone could prefer the generic remake over the original film.
>>72071848
I would shit all over you but since you have ADHD you can't help preferring fast paced garbage over slow-paced atmospheric films. Although the original Evil Dead has a really fast pace so you preferring the remake is inexcusable.

Also, this was better in every way than the 60's version. I do give credit to Corman for the original idea though, he just didn't have the money or the technology to make the kind of film he wanted. But the practical effects in this version are incredible. Just read some of the behind the scenes for how they made the plant work.

A remake follows (mostly) the same story as the original, with directorial changes and probably nods to the original

A reboot is to tell a new (but somehow related to the original) story of a character or situation

A difficult case, for example, would be The Taking of Pelham 123
>>
>>72073839
and yet the top video holds more emotional weight because the characters were written better
>>
>>72073853
the 80's Scarface was a remake and doesn't fall into either of those.

The characters in the first Star Wars were goofy cartoon cutouts and the dialogue was awful for the most part, George Lucas is a shit writer. It wasn't until The Empire Strikes back that writing got good thanks to Kasdan and Leigh Brackett.

>Evil Dead
Remake had more humor, but not on 2's level, but most of it is just lifted from the orig; at least Dawn of the Dead remake only kept Zombies and The Mall as concepts and changed everything else. TEDR hits most of the points of the original with marginal changes, and had worse camera tech.
It gets a "not shit, but not recommended if there's anything else to watch"

Carpenter's The Thing is a remake of The Thing From Another World in name only. There are almost no similarities.
>>
>>72072712
>the Evil Dead remake misses the entire point of the franchise and plays the whole thing too straight.

but the original was meant to be a straight horror movie to begin with.

The remake was meant to take the series back to its straight horror roots, though I absolutely love the increasingly silly sequels and Ash Vs. Evil Dead a lot.
>>
>>72075294
Besides it still had its silly moments. I don't buy that stuff like the guy who gets abused the entire movie wasn't intentional.
