The first movie was an action oriented sci-fi movie, but it wasn't Star Trek. It was obvious in the first movie when we find out Spock is dating Uhura that this new "reboot" was made by people who have never actually watched Star Trek, they just know the characters names and caricatured them.
Ok, so they established their new wormhole universe with these empty shell characters. Fine. Then the sequel comes out and instead of doing their own thing they attempt to remake arguably the best Star Trek movie, WoK.
