was almost 50 million at 4 friday and it was 45 million at 1am saturday

>Yes, that three-day is a record for director Paul Feig and star Melissa McCarthy (easily beating the $39.1M opening of their B.O. high The Heat), however, considering what Ghostbusters cost at $144M after rebates (and before an estimated $100M-plus global P&A), a number of rival sources consider anything in the $40M range to be a mediocre start for this reboot. Anything north of $50M is ideally safer.

http://www.vulture.com/2016/07/paul-feig-ghostbusters-reboot-c-v-r.html

and remember!!

As opening day approaches, Feig can’t help but think about the stakes of making a $150 million movie. “A movie like this has to at least get to like $500 million worldwide, and that’s probably low,” he says. “But the thing I care about most is the industry looking for an excuse to say, ‘See, a tentpole can’t be carried by female leads’” — three of whom are over 40. “I cashed in all my chips,” he says. “I had to use every chip to make this happen. And if this doesn’t work, I will probably have to go back to movie jail.”

An all female cast could have worked if they approached it the right way and weren't completely fucking obnoxious about it.

The main cast could have had their daughters or grand daughters take over the family business or some shit. Make it a movie about passing the torch.

Instead the marketing has been completely centered about "WE'RE WOMEN! WE'RE STRONG! SEE MEN! :^ )"

Last I checked Ghostbusters 2016 will not be in China at all. Depending on what you read/listen to, it's either because the movie is too sacrilegious with its treatment of the dead, China just wants to screw with Sony, or China has a hard limit on foreign movies entering their country per year and chose this one to exclude.
>>
>>72051278
China has cultural taboos against stuff related to the dead. Remember how all the skeletons were removed from the Chinese release of WoW?
>>
>>72051317
It's more than likely a three way win win for China.

They get to keep religious bullshit out of their theaters; shit on the nips who raped their grandparents; and don't have to waste one of their slots on a shitty western movie

>>
>>72051273
Honestly it's probably more bad timing than anything. I don't think the people they alienated are truly enough to bust the box office, if they had an area of weak competition they could've squeaked out a profit. But in this they're probably going to get the backhand of Pets, then they're going to get the full brunt of Star Trek and Ice Age. I mean mediocre blockbusters that alienate oldschool fanboys have done well before, so I don't see them being any worse for wear here. Only real issue is they pushed the propaganda angle hard, and China only likes THEIR propaganda.

>>
>>72051616

depends on the multiplier ghostbusters ends up happening and the 2nd week drop

garbage like tammy had a 3.9x multiplier

>Bridesmaids (6.5x), The Heat (4x), Tammy (3.9x), and Spy (3.8M)

that means opening weekend # x 6.5 or 4 or 3.9 or 3.8

so if this opens up at 44.5 million and gets a 3.5 multiplier that = 155 million domestic

China's law prohibiting depictions of stuff related to cults/ghosts/whatever isn't why they turned it down. Their official explanation was just that they didn't think Chinese audiences would be interested by it because the first two Ghostbusters never came to China either and they didn't see Chinese audiences liking this one. They could've blamed it on ghosts, but instead they just came out and said it had zero appeal to the Chinese.

That's because women don't want to see Ghostbusters, generally.

I mean, okay, there are some women who do have masculine tastes in films and they like stuff like Ghostbusters and Predator and shit, but in general women like romantic movies or something.

Again, not all women, but it is definitely a trend.

It's the same the other way around; there are some dudes who like shit like The Notebook and 50 Shades of Gray, but, again, not most of them.

They're doing two things wrong here: appealing against the grain, and actively shunning the actual target demographic.

You know, the second trailer wasn't so bad. I'd be willing to see this movie if the director, cast, and whole marketing team hadn't been so smug about putting women in the movie. This whole thing with James just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'd see the stupid movie, but they turned going to see a dumb comedy into an ideological battle. I have no choice but to fight. I will not see the movie, and I can't in good conscience hope it does well.

If you had half a brain, you'd realize that all of the "SJW"/gender/race crap bledover from fucking /v/, because they have a hardon for such a thing.

More cartoon stuff bleed over also due to /v/. You'd see this started mostly in 2014; more accidental /v/ crossposting, more intentional crossposting, more "what if __ was a movie" or "warcraft/etc" that are coming up.

/sp/ moved in here in 2012; as early as 2011ish due to Big Brother threads "outlawed" due to "poor mean /sp/ mods" that numerous posted have admitted (back then, not now, before revisionist history newfriends attempt to dissuade), and never left. They use memes to the extreme;, this is their Facebook, they don't care if they piss and shit in the same place they eat.

That's why you see half of this board is spam, also the moderation simply cannot keep up with the massive amount of spam unless you actually send reports. Even then, there seems to be some sort of favoritism with this "fourth round" of moderation (for /tv/, since its inception). They delete shit that should be deleted asap (cunny shit, shrek/just/bane [which took forever for them to get on too, the latter memes]), but some things take an awfully long time to delete, like /sp/ blacked threads.

Stay new.

/sp/ killed /tv/ starting in late 2011/early 2012
/sp/ started the fire with Bane in late 2013
/sp/ brought their normalfaggotry over here, especially their shit memes, like Doge, etc, and lately "senpai, desu, baka" facebook normie crap
/sp/ brought over Big Brother because "/sp/ MODS WERE MEAN :(" and this was outright admitted years ago. Also Game of Thrones and other plebby crap as well, and muh Blacked, kek, "favorite actress" (read:porn stars) became more frequent as well. Nothing of quality came of those threads; everyone was just indulging themselves with their own opinion, you'd get more sauce/info out of a shitty /gif/ thread.

2014 was the nail in the coffin for 4chan as a whole, due to the Fappening bringing in all types of normies or idiots.
/v/edditor shit started appearing in 2014; MUH SJW! MUH WHAT IS THE ___ OF TV/MOVIES?! MY VIDEOGAME MOVIES! MY MISPOSTING! Also you're seeing more and more capeshit; /v/ /co/ and /mu/ are mostly related by their demographic and prone to be attracted to underage as well.
Moderators for /tv/ have been shit since 2012, with the great tripfag purge of 2013 pretty much banning or making them all leave due to harassment, even on different boards.

Since __2013__, statistics:
THERE HAS BEEN AT LEAST ///5 PAGES/// OF THREADS THAT CONSIST of --LESS THAN 14 REPLIES--.
This board is pure spam, & in those 5 pages consist of 3 pages with <6 replies, mostly outdated/shitty new forced memes or outright bait.

All of this can be proven by simple searches on the 4plebs archives.

Every board, and I mean EVERY board has a crossover boogyman. The issue isn't crossposting, it's just that 4chan is full of shitposters no matter what board you're on.

The only real difference is the speed of the board, so /b/ /v/ /r9k/ and /pol/ are the worst offenders by casual glance, but per capita they're no worse than any other board.

Instead of passing the blame, accept that 4chan has always been this way. You clearly don't care enough to leave, so your only choice is to wade through the shit to get to the posts you want.

I'm not denying crossposting exists, but you're making such a lazy assumption.

You don't like /v/ for instance, /v/ posters admit to being on /tv/, you see shitposting on /tv/ and so you assume it's all because of /v/

The average 4chan user is fine for most part, the average 4chan poster on the other hand is a shitposter who is trying to be cool, regardless of whatever board they haunt the most.

The thought that would attract women to see the movie, since there are more women than men, ditching men if favor of women seemed like a good idea.

The problem is, the vast majority of women are (thankfully) not feminists, even if feminists want to think otherwise.

Nope. CGI is cheaper when it done properly, enough time to keep team reasonably small and get things done by the book. The problem is often rushed production, that requires more workforce and usually leads to inconsistent results and raising costs.

What was even the point of this movie.
It's clear that Sony (or any other company for that matter) doesn't give a fuck about feminism and only did the whole gurrl power thing to attract more potential audience but surely they must have known even then that pandering to feminists is not profitable in the slightest. As bad as Pixel was at least Sandler knew how to choose his audience.

If the movie was a cashgrab (which it was) why would they spend so much money on it, it's insane that they spent 150 million dollars without counting the marketing and expected some kind of return.
