Pretty sure black and white still records the wavelength of light, it just converts it into black or white.

It seems that older movies filmed in black and white have more effect. Modern stuff that would have been changed to it in editing doesn't seem to work as well.

Love that image you colorised with the green hue on right side.

I am so amazed how far technology has come. I can't wait for them to invent a program that makes you colorize a whole movie.

After all: they did invent a movie program where if you record audio separetly on an mp3 player and then insert underneath the raw footage: you press a button and it matches up the raw detached footage with the detached mp3 audio... NO FREAKIN JOKE!!

I have no idea how people are able to create such professional robotic programs but I very much like where our future is heading.

Seeing the green lighting is an interesting insight into the method that was used to make that film. Green lighting makes people look sickly and uncomfortable, which is obviously an important element of Eraserhead, the fact the lightning can be used to create colour scenes and then effectively masked from the audience by reducing the colours is pretty incredible to me.

Sometimes it gets the color right other times it fails.

I can this is a test program. Be patience. In 5 years time I believe they will generate an actual program that fully creates black and white images into pure color. It is only a matter of time.

Like I said here:
>>72043931
They already have generated a program where if you record someone speak on a camera with no audio and separably record them talk on an mp3 player - you can then put the mp3 recording under the isolated footage and it will match up the voice for you.

Except that the lighting and cinematography was done in mind with the film being filmed in black and white. It'll always look like shit when you change something into something it was never supposed to look like. Colors will be off and strange for sets and props, the lighting focus will be terrible and all mood and atmosphere a lot of these movies created will be ruined.

You might as well put a grayscale filter over modern movies, it'll have the same disastrous effect.

The only reason anyone would want to colorize movies is because their ADHD stops them from looking at something without flashing color for longer than 5 minutes anyway. Why not add CGI monsters in the background and ADR some quips in while we're at it.
