How can we make a Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck epic movie trilogy a reality?
>>
>>71937732

send Disney and email. but relax because Disney will make everything eventually.
>>
Scrooge's voice actor died recently, so probably not.
>>
>>71937872
This. Fuck recasting him.
>>
>>71938108
>>71937872

I bet Billy West could do it.
>>
>>71937732
Rosa most definitely doesn't want anything to do with Disney anymore.
>>
>>71938230
He can't, his eyesight is fucked.
>>
>>71937732
>They make an entire series based on Don Rosa and Carl Barks works
>It stays completly truthful
>Americans starts complaining because "not much Duck Tales"
Watch it happen
>>
>>71938238
That only has to do with him drawing proper comics. He still does sketches for fans and shit.

He has severe dislike of Disney comic system
http://career-end.donrosa.de/

>>71938278
DuckTales is pretty much Carl Barks. Carl Barks didn't care too much for continuity or details of things.

Rosa was just picking up everything that was said in Bark's stories, compiled it and made stuff up where necessary.
>>
You don't get it.

Western kuks can only make LE CHIDREN CARTOON and no drama or serious attempt is allowed.
>>
>>71937732
Oh fuck, it would be so epic! I´d honestly pay to see that movie.

Who would you guys cast as whom?
>>
>>71937732
Maybe as a tv mini-series, I just can't see it being adapted in feature length.
>>
>>71937732
I want this.
Don Rosa's Scrooge comics are the best.
>>
>>71938488

The penultimate chapter is fucking legendary

>Scrooge returns to Duckburg after decades of travelling around the world making tons of money
>His family is there to welcome him but he kicks them all out
>He sits down and suddenly all the memories of his family come rushing back
>He runs after his family but on the way comes across a letter telling him he's become the richest man in the world
>His sister weeps outside as Scrooge laughs maniacally alone with his fortunes

Absolute duckkino
>>
>>71938567
The redeeming story about him inviting Donald and the nephews on christmas is also fucking great. Also the travelling to Scotland story with him meeting one of his sisters again (the other one, Donald and his sisters mother, supposedly died between the chapter you posted and the christmas story).
>>
>>71938131
or Billy Crystal
how funny would that be
>>
>>71938721

Well I don't know how good his Scottish accent is and Billy West is a pretty accomplished voice actor with a lot of range. I guess Crystals more famous but been out of the spotlight.

I wonder if Gerard Butler could do it.
>>
>>71938531
He meant that Disney executives wouldn't be able to handle the feels and instead they would make some shitty oversimplified cartoon.
>>
>>71938774
it was more or less a joke,
butler probably couldnt, since youre listing scottish guys, why not Tennant
>>
No. It would be cgi shit like all the new animated movies. Even 2D animation looks too computer generated now.

What I would want is a live action movie with a mix of puppettery and some good looking cgi (something like what Del Toro did in Hellboy 2 or even like the movie Where the Wild Things Are).

But I'm a fag who loves the Howard the Duck movie, so I'm not the kind of audience the movie would be made for these days.

Barks and Rosa are so much above the rest of the Duck comics that it's not even funny. Life and Times even had a fucking death scene and that never happens in these comics

Can't speak for anybody but myself, but Don Rosa's comics are just damn beautiful and the stories that goes along with them usually has some heart.

Also Scrooge and Donald's interactions always leave room for good banter.

I dunno. Comics used to be pretty big in Sweden a few decades ago, at least for kids. You'd find Modesty Blaise, The Phantom etc in regular grocery stores.

Donald Duck was the most popular though.

This, and the man always put in hours upon hours of research for each comic he made, and dropped in loads of obscure references to his favorite movies. He makes the characters feel really alive and not just be one-dimensional like 95% of duck artists.

The personification of animals was a very prominent characteristic of scandinavian fairytales and folk myths. I like to believe that whatever made us so fascinated about animals back then is still within us somehow.
>>
>>71939867

Why do you choose to aggravate yourself making a post like that?
>>
>>71939419

The real answer to this question is in World War 2. After the war, nordic countries had very little entertainment, the first real thing that came along to the region were american duck comics, especially Barks stories.

Now they're a tradition.

Can't believe people still fall for the "worked hard and became rich" meme.
Look at scrooge, he was doing literally what everyone else was doing at the time, every other badass thing he did was obviously a hyperbole due to the nature of the comic.
When he eventually became rich it was by being a lucky motherfucker and finding a huge lump of gold. And then it's your typical capitalist story, take advantage of other people's work and reap the profits ad nauseam.
>>
>>71940756
This is true, half the series is him working hard and ending up with literally nothing to show for it except bitter cynicism.
>>
>>71940756
Well, he worked hard and became rich. Just the first thing wasn't connected to the other.
>>
>>71940768
yea don't get me wrong, I love scrooge and this comic, I've been a fan of Rosa and Barks since childhood.
It just disgusts me when people pretend that there is correlation between hard work and rewards in capitalism.
You can work hard to become rich but you can also have it handed to you.
And you can work hard and assert yourself for years and have nothing to show for it as much as if you just live life going through the motions.
At the end of the day there will always be a bigger correlation between taking advantage of people and people's labor and being rich than being a hard worker and being rich.

Don Rosa's depiction of Scrooge is literally my favorite fictional character of all time, and I would hate to see this happen.

I just know that they would fuck it up. He's such an unapologetically masculine character, as well as a true anti-hero, that he simply would not fit in with the contemporary mainstream movie ideals.

I would prefer it if they instead reissued The Life And Times Of Scrooge McDuck, so people wouldn't have to pay an arm and a leg for a new copy.

why is this allowed

In Finland kids usually learn to read with Donald Duck comics. Also Wednesdays used to cash in elementary school since you got that 52-page fucker with Dolans new adventures. Fuck Mickey Mouse, I like me some "Donald is an aggresive and abusive asshole to his nieces, tries to murder his neighbour, gets cucked by Gladstone and gets financially assfucked by Scrooge"-stories.

>Nobody mentions the cool historic accuracies

The highland games, the whole clan mcduck history, the krakatoa, the gold rush and the advent of technology. All these historic events make Life and Times time passing a lot more believable.

This needs to be a Netflix tv series with the nightwish guy as the soundtrack composer.

I really enjoy that too. I'm surprised Carl Barks was so careful with that, then of course Rosa is a huge nerd for details so he continued it and really utilized it. I like the amount of research he puts in.

No, the nugget didn't. Scrooge had grown bitter and coldhearted over the years of fruitless hardships and constant disappointments and betrayals. The money he made was meaningless in the end, but after spending most of his life to get it, he couldn't stop so increasing his wealth just became his entire life.
