Faithful adaptations are over rated. Why would you want to see the same thing in another medium?
A good adaptation is a good, creative, re-imagining. In that case greater liberties can be taken with the source material which is fine because you're seeing another artist's take on it. Think Blade Runner.
The problem is that there are very few artists left. Which is why any adaptation is reduced to how faithfully it can follow the source material, how incredibly dull.
