They are just as crisp on a flatscreen. It was just first gen LCDs that were weak.

You do need a CRT to play light gun games. So if you like Retro Gaming you may just pick one up to play hogans alley or duck hunt.

That's old tech. LED is the standard now. The LED can have the diodes placed around the edges so it specifically addresses that issue.

Literally the only thing is that you can play old light gun games on them. As the light gun was set up to use the CRT tv and it doesn't work on any HD tv.

I don't know if they've made an acceptable light gun to use with an HDTV when playing a retro system or not.

I just sold the light gun games figuring I didn't need to play hogans alley that bad anyway.

also, old consoles look better on CRT because there's no upscaling involved.

Retro games actually look a lot better on a decent CRT than on modern HDTV, a CRT is also mandatory for playing light gun games, using them for anything else is just dank memes tho

Apart from the lightgun thing nothing. They might be better in some respects if people are comaring them to the cheapest shit LED you can buy. Otherwise any decent current samsung LED will kick the shit out of decades old technology

Why do CRTs set off autists like you so badly?

Give me an honest answer. If you know anything about technology you ought to know there are still some benefits to using a CRT, and even if their weren't you would still at least have some respect for them for their years on top.

The alternative is you don't even have a good reason to hate them other than some people like them.

They just look really good. Amazing color, very smooth image, great viewing angles. -Black- blacks. And you can get them very cheap now. A Plasma TV that will give a similar image will be 3-10x the price.

Ignore any idiot that thinks the shitbox his parents got in 1995 hooked up to a coaxial cable is representative of all CRTs.
>>
>>71760673
I have a very high quality Dell Ultrasharp sitting on my desk right now and a high quality PC CRT from 1995 in the floor next to it.

The Dell is a better image, but just barely. And the CRT still has better black. The Ultrasharp would be a couple of hundred dollars used, the CRT you can often find them on craigslist for free.

PVMs are good, but there are so many other types of RGB capable monitors out there that deserve attention too.

This is the Mitsubishi Megaview Pro 42. The largest CRT ever released for single monitor usage. It is a goliath, but it also has a great picture.
>>
>>71760954
>The Dell is a better image, but just barely
There is no way you can expect me to believe a high quality monitor is just barely a better image than a CRT. Maybe if you are running low resolution source through both. Which you would have to since a CRT from 1995 is going to have composite or VGA at best. Black levels dont matter unless the screen is washed out to all hell. All tvs have settings you can change all that shit to get it looking perfect, but people almost never do and leave it at the default settings.

Strike that bit about it being the largest CRT released. In recent times a couple of bigger units have to light. The Sony KX-45ED1 appears to have been the largest at 45".
>>
>>71761120
PVMs are just the most easily accessible option. Everyone would like a 40+ inch CRT, not too many people have the ability to move one around or have a floor that won't crack under the strain.

When you can get a monitor that cost thousands of dollars new for 20 bucks, you're laughing all the way to the bank.

PC CRTs of the 90s could often do 1600x1200. Better models could hit 2048x1536. Refresh rates ranged from 50-85hz (00's units could go higher).

Video signals were delivered via a variety of connectors, but a common format was the RGBHV separation on BNC cables. Or you could use a 15 pin D-sub (often called VGA, which is incorrect) to a RGBHV breakout. 15-pin to 15-pin also worked over short cable lengths, but not every monitor had it and if you didn't have a high quality cable you can expect ghosting (not of the LCD variety, different phenomena) in the image.

Sun had their own proprietary format. As did Apple. Sony had one with their early HDVS system. Then there was the MUSE Hi-Vision.

I could go go but I think you have enough to read about now.

>>

>>
>>71761433
It was the 2nd most common format after the D-sub attached to consumer grade monitors. Anything nice would have used separated RGB.
>>
>>71761308
PC CRTs are analog, dude. As long as there are small enough phosphors, you can resolve an image anywhere from 800x600 to 3840×2400.

They're also by far the best choice for playing old PC games because of this, at least until you get all the way back to CGA where the monitor phosphor layout was different. Seeing an old blocky game just melt away into smooth lines when you move the window onto a CRT is something you have to see to understand.
>>

It's the inconsistencies that is the problem; half the movie you can't hear and the half will deafen you. And that's before you talk about the fact that the rips are legit 96 kbps AT BEST meaning a fuck ton of raw data is gone straight away, so everything sounds shit.
