Give it at least 6 episodes though before you make up your mind, the beginning is a little rough, it starts out in standard tween scifi mode but it manages to shake it off.

sorry, but i find it hard to trust when people say shows get better over time. If it isn't good at the beginning then why the fuck should I stick around? It's possible that the writing didn't get better, you just got used to the mediocrity.

The series is based on a book series, a shitty shitty book series. But when the show started out there was only one book out, and they pretty much cover it in the first episode. And then there's a few episodes of awkward transition period before the writers get to a position where they can just write their own shit, which is vastly better and deviates wildly from the story of the books.
