Did you know the actor playing the alien had a automobile accident on his way to film that scene? He rear ended a car because he was drunk and killed both people in that car. After he filmed that scene He was arrested and now lives out his sentence in jail. Also nice trips. Check mine.

I think we all have a deep primordial fear of looking out the window and seeing something not-quite-human slip past our field of vision.

I know I do. And if I fucking see it and it knows I saw it then it will try to kill me.

This scene scared the hell out of me when I first saw it. Now I'm a big guy and I can clearly see why it is so effective:

1. The warning from the TV news anchor: "what you're about to see may disturb you". Who wouldn't normally be startled after hearing this?
2. The realistic, low-quality footage (well, I'm Brazilian and immediately noticed something odd about their spanish-esque pronunciation, but it didn't interfere at all with the final result)
3. The sound of the children screaming. What a great idea to place this scene in a children's birthday party, by the way!
4. Phoenix's reaction and expression.
5. The low key, repetitive soundtrack in the background.

This is why I think it's a brilliantly crafted horror scene.
>>
>>71729571

Why do people pretend to hate this movie again?

I understand why they pretend to hate Lady in the Water, but not this.
>>
Why are skinnyfags so much scarier than large or fit monsters?

Do we subconsciously associate skinny threats with a starving predator or perhaps a dangerous wasting illness? Do spindly motherfuckers just look naturally more agile with a longer reach? Look at slenderman, you add an extra foot onto a dudes limbs, hide his face and suddenly you have le terrifying memester.

Maybe us manlets just have trouble associating something tall with ourselves, I know when they cast the guy for the xenomorph suit in Alien they specifically went for some 7ft+ freak.

It's far worst if you are brazilian/portuguese speaker. In american movies brazil fags always speak spanish or have an weird accent.

So, you are expecting then to talk like "Mira, es uno rabujo" but then the children begin to scream in perfect portuguese "Ali! Ali! Olha ali!" and you go "WTF this shit is real?" You are just thiking about an then the alien appears.

Nope man, just nope.

Maybe it's easier for skinny fuckers to be closer to that uncanny valley territory than fit monsters. You see a ripped demon or cave troll and you're scared in the same way a tiger scares you. "Huge threat, big guym extremely painful, etc.". Slenderman isn't just thin, he's human-but-not quite, which triggers a different kind of fear reaction. Why there's an uncanny valley in the first place I would pay good jewgold to find out
>>
It was honestly a freak accident that the scene was so startling. Obviously it was crafted to be that way but it being better than other good "jump" scenes wasn't director skill, just luck

Gospel of Mark, 11:

>Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.

Yes, but IIRC, the film has news reports from all over the globe illustrating their water weakness, and how humanity used that to drive them away.

I'm curious, is there any substance that is generally harmless to us as a vapor, but not as a liquid? As you can tell, I'm trying to find peace with how water vapor in the air did nothing to the film creatures, but liquid water did.

I just watched number 2 for the first time. Holy shit how did they fuck that up? The homoerotic tones were literally all the movie had going for it that worked but how do you make a horror movie and not put the lead in any perceived danger?? They had a god tier twist that they squandered for no reason.
>>
>>71738137

It was a rushed production, and they were trying to churn out a sequel as quickly as possible after catching lightning in a bottle with the original film.

While the movie was a success financially, they realized that they fucked up though and tried a bit harder with the next installment. Even went as far as to try and get Wes Craven back, even if it didn't pan out.

There's actually a whole documentary called Never Sleep Again about the production history of the series that covers all of it. I recommend it if you're into that sort of thing, it's like four hours long but it's really interesting.

Also, be sure to check out Nightmare on Elm Street 3 if you haven't. It's fantastic.

i'm going through Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm st
im trying to keep it balanced so i can meet in the middle at the crossover. I also want to see what went wrong with the series, since i watched the reboots first.
I'm just pissed because i think 2 could have been as good as one but they didn't think it through. I mean if you are going homoerotic subtext and internal struggle, there are much better, more subtle ways to do it
>>
>>71729949
>>71730012

>>
>>71738319

The homoerotic subtext thing was kind of unintentional. The writer thought he was being a cheeky fucker by putting it in, and the lazy director for hire they got that didn't give a shit and the greedy studio execs were in such a rush to get it out that nobody caught it (except for the gay lead actor) until it was too late.

Kind of funny actually.

wow that's sad, I thought it was the only thing propping the movie up i'm a fag so i might be biased
That's pretty sad actually

Here's how i would have done the movie

>make the opening bus scene a bit less over the top
>when he meets Freddy and asks "what do you want" he replies with "YOU" and scratches him before he wakes up
>make him and the gym teacher seem in danger and the gym teacher dies
>when he's about to fugg his girlfriend, she turns into freddy, not him.
>reveal that he is freddy at his friends house before killing him
>instead of attacking the pool party, he attacks and kills Kerry when he refuses to kill Jesse.
>the plot then switches heavily to Jesse's POV until the end
>He kills Jesse but survives
>make the ending like the first one where he rejects freddy and gets his friends back but then dies.
>subtly imply that he's with his Ron and not Jesse to keep the gay subtext.
that's how i would have started to fix it, at least

>what is a metaphor?
if demons or some shit came to earth, I'm pretty sure everyone would be skeptical enough to consider them aliens and misinterpret everyhting

Lady In the Water is comfy as fuck. The idea of using an apartment complex as a setting, feeling like its own little world was brilliant. Shame the movie is let down by the story, it could have been really really good.

He suffered from the George Lucas issue of having complete creative control, he needed someone to balance him out a little.

The problem with the "they weren't aliens, they were demons!" theory that you all keep forgetting is the SPACE SHIPS

The truth is they were both aliens and demons. The whole basis for them in this film comes from those nutjobs that think supposed alien visitations, sightings and abductions are all done by demons.

But having a space ship? Not being native to Earth? They're both aliens and demons since that's what demons are by our definition already.

I'm the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas, and I do believe that statement is dubious at best.

This scene shat me up so bad when I saw it, thought I was the only one...

This, my friend and I actually grabbed each other and screamed
>>
>>71729222

I don't mind the film but in all honesty this scene didn't freak me out even as a kid.

This and the silly kitchen scene were the only 2 scare moments that left me cold. The rooftop alien shenanigans and basement sequence stole the show for me.

it's true, lady in the water was the downfall, but it might just have been not my style. i liked the village too, there was no real twist, except for the animals as played by the retard sounding like a beast, but that was the twist. not them in a preserve that was stated in the start....

it's kinda pleb filter.

This shit me and my friends right up when we saw it at the cinema

never been more scared by an alien coming out from behind a bush

wouldn't at least a little poison still get in? I mean if the kids lungs were completely closed that whole time he probably would have suffocated and died from lack of oxygen.

Alien movies were all that scared me the whole time I was a kid. I saw the old Was of the Worlds when I was 5 and was scared of aliens for the rest of my childhood.

Signs was my favorite though. I wanted to watch it even though I was scared. It's a comfy kind of scary.

Too bad Shamalama poo in loo only had two good movies.
