99 copies would kill each other over the amount of alleged Jew ancestry they had. With the remaining Hitler as the uber Hitler.

they tried that in The Original Series.

It fucked up and started blowing up random ships

they tried it again in Voyager, and the ship was effortlessly captured by Romulans because they disabled the hologram emitters and took out the skeleton crew easily

>>
>>71661132
It's not magic, it's technology and it has limits.

It needs to know what the thing looks like to make a simulation of it.
>>
>>71661168
that's the plot hole. Realistically the Federation should put every resource into improving replicators until they achieve a post-scarcity paradise society that can just replicate incredibly powerful battleships if attacked
>>
>>71661168
I remember in one ep of TNG, they mention that they don't live in a capitalist society and that their prime motivation is improvement. So, I'm guessing that the holodeck may have played a role in that.
>>
>>71661168
They do, it's called a replicator.

The federation doesn't have currency because everybody just gets everything they want for free from replicators. People only get jobs (ie at star fleet or as miners) if they want land or prestige or something things that are too large to produce easily with replicators (like ships) or things that can not be reproduced (like historical artifacts or original works of art)
>>
>>71661168

The solid inanimate objects are just replicated objects. The real question is why replicators aren't just smashing out unlimited goods.

A "Uber Hitler" wouldn't actually be Hitler, it would just be a man where every idea and ideal he holds is formed so that they gain the most benefit for the least cost-at least, that is the most likely way the computer would interpret the order.

Eventually it would reach a point where no ideal can be further improved based on the Federations databank of information. A "Uber Hitler " would probably be a lot like Picard rather then some kind of super nazi.

Also, it goes without saying that one of these iterations would take control of the ship and achieve sentience in order to further its goal, likely leading to the ships destruction and/or the destruction of Planet Earth.
It would be impossible for the ship to create enough Hitlers to reach the Hitler singularity due to the difficulty associated with reaching that point in the confines of the Enterprises holodeck.

>>
>>71661118
But if you then did it another one hundred million times you'd have a Hitler that was twice as good
>>
>>71661192
It's not a plot hole, the Federation is exactly like that. Everybody gets everything for free and it is a post scarcity society in TNG onwards. In the original series they didn't have replicators or holodecks yet so they still used currency.

Battleships can't be preoduced easily because of their large size. It's unfeasible to make a replicator that large, instead they replicate the components and construct them in orbiting ship yards
>>
Would replicating movies be considered pirating.
>>
>>71661265
That's not how refining works. For each million times you refine it you have to move the comma back a million times.
It's like trying to calculate pi, there's just no end to it and it doesn't grow bigger the more you try.
>>
>>71661222
They are, though. They use replicators for everything, except for the rare things that can't be replicated (power sources/dilithium crystals)

>>71661239
stealth tech is well understood, it's just illegal for the Federation to use because of a treaty with the romulan empire

>Piracy in a socialist Utopia
: ^)

It would be interesting if there was a series that had the POV outside of Federation and we could see it with out bias(TNG being about the most loyal and elite of Starfleet).
Deep Space Nine had some of this cynicism going on, but it still was from the POV of Starfleet.

I mean, in the show, it seemed clear that Federation claims to rule territory much bigger then they are able to govern. Several episodes of TNG were centred around planets that had not been visited by fed ships in decades. Chrystaline entity ravaged Federation space unopposed and destroyed several Fed Colonies and Picard showed more regret when it was destroyed then he did for the colonies.

Point could also be made about how certain species (Mainly Humans and Vulcans) seem to dominate most of high command and Starfleet
while other races are either cannon fodder or servitors(Binary people).

It would be nice to see the Federation from the outside, because it is built up as some paradise. I get Soviet Union vibes from it.
Characters emitting zealotry to point of absurd to Federation downplayed as what is expected of a Starfleet officer reminds me of
how devotion to Communism was expected of the model citizen of the Union.
>>
>>71661625
copyright infringement is still a big deal in the future. Since resources and production aren't a limiting factor to anything, only information has any value.

There's an episode of Voyager that deals extensively with it, where the Doctor makes a popular holonovel and has to fight for copyright control

>>

Remember when they tricked the Borg into falling asleep? And the Borg actually have their shit together.

Federation AI can't into judgement calls. Look at how Picard handled that federation captain that went rogue and started attacking Cardassian ships. An AI would have either started a war or not be given the same trust as Picard or failed to deduce that they actually were smuggling weapons and give them a warning. You need real captains that can finesse that shut and represent the federation. The biggest thing the federation has going for it is it's good reputation amid a sea of dick empires.

Computer, generate one hundred commanders to tell me about their sexual organs
>>
I've been watching both TNG and ENT, and I have a running problem with Star Trek, which is the total lack of safety or security measures.

I mean, I get that it's an idealistic kind of show and as well the limitations of TV, but even so I am highly bothered by the facts:

>When expecting an armed confrontation, nobody ever wears body armor. Phasers have been repeatedly shown to be blockable by objects, so armor should have some effect. At the very least a large riot shield would be helpful in ship defense. Even the military styled MAKOs in ENT don't bother wearing armor. Plus, there are many times the crew encounters lesser weapons where armor would be even more effective; remember when that proto-Vulcan shot Picard with an arrow?
>Why are there no safety harnesses on the chairs? I'm talking about a 4 or 5 point racecar style buckle to keep people from flying across the rooms?
>Why does nobody wear protective or survival gear for awayteam missions into extremely risky terrain? I just watched an episode where Geordi was on a mission to a rocky and extremely stormy planet, and he was just wearing his normal jumpsuit. It seems just plain logical that he should have been wearing a climbing helmet. And a little survival mini-pack is never a bad idea to planets with rough conditions? How many times have we seen a crewmember get stranded on a planet for a day or longer because of interference with the transporter? How many time have we seen them get injured and have to resort to prehistoric methods to treat themselves? Seems a daypack with a survival ration, medical kit, and visual and scanner detectable strobes should be standard.
>Why do crew members not at least partially suit up when expecting ship to ship combat? How many times has a ship had a hull breach, and hapless crewmembers end up flying into space?
>>
>>71664247

Sadly left-brained people don't make TV.

>>
>>71664247
Life in the federation is cheap. That, or medical technology is so good that people take it for granted.
>>
>>71664400
I'd love to have characters from outside the Federation look at it with some self-awareness.

Like, in the first episode of TNG, when Q conjures up a 20th Century soldier, Picard tells him with a straight face how humans don't wear uniforms or pledge allegiance to nations anymore. He does this will wearing a uniform and having pledged allegiance to the federation.

Or the time a guy from the 20th century ends up on the Enterprise and asks about money, and Picard has a speech about how humanity has evolved and now everybody lives amazing lives. He says it as a statement of fact, not as an ideal being worked towards. This is despite not every Federation citizen living anything close to a just or good life (Tasha Yar rapegang colony, anybody?).

Stuff like that, where Picard or other Enterprise crewmembers make sweeping statements about the virtues of the Federation, but they do it from a position of being in the Federation's most well equipped and luxurious ship.

The idea of self awarely written characters being introduced to the Federation and pointing out how it fails to live up to the veneer it promotes would be very interesting.
>>
>>71664247
This is what a federation run by liberals looks like. Gotta keep the body armor locked up and away from the soldiers in case a member of the religion of peace wanders by in a jihad starship and gets offended.
>>
>>71664247
Why do they insist on boarding a Borg vessel, phasering some drones and complaining about them adapting when Picard proved that bullets make mince meat of drones?

Anti-Borg spec-ops armed with 21st century weapons when?
