With a GoT type of budget could they do a live action Berserk? There isn't as many characters as in GoT or locations to shoot in so they could probably spend more on the effects, but they would probably still eliminate arcs like the Children one and probably most of the Black Swordsman to rush to the Golden Age arc and the arc where Griffith comes back.
It's more like Macbeth mixed with old creepy European tales, the "global politics" shtick of GoT isn't really there so much and it's a much more personal story

The Golden Age arc would translate well into a live action show probably. Since it is so straight forward and is mainly just a medieval story with not a lot of fantasy elements. It's pretty much the Griffith just getting into battles to try and get closer to the throne. It's everything after that when it goes full fantasy where it wouldn't work well.

I havent watched the new series but I think the cgi will work with the newer berserk stuff. In the Golden age movies the battles looked great, but the art style did feel cheap and they really did a number on the story. Since Berserk became much more action oriented in the later arcs I think the cgi is going to be a better fit, and since story isnt as important anymore they cant really botch it.

If you want to get the gist of things quickly, watch the 2012 movie trilogy.
It's a nice summary of the golden age but includes bad cgi (which gets better by the third movie). But the hand drawn elements are beautiful. There's no filler, but the important character development remains.

You know, I started with the movies. Always wanted to get into berserk. But I was confused by how the manga began ahead of what was in the anime and movies. Didn't understand that came later and wasn't the uploader skipping chapters he didn't have.
So I just want to say that after I finally sat down to watch the movies, I was blown away by how gay it was. Actually gay. It hit me out of nowhere. The golden age was like a big homosexual epic. Then I read the manga and the gayness was still there and both more subtle and more obvious. Though it looks like some people are EXTREMELY dense or in denial. Actually shocking how many people are like this.

Well I mean look at what he did to achieve his dream. All the scheming and planning and assassinations and sacrifices. He whored himself out, sent people to their deaths. It's not like he didn't care, he did, they showed us he cared, but he still did anything to reach his dream. Until Guts. When Guts showed up he became more important. Griffith started caring for him more than anyone else, ever, right off the bat. He started risking his own life to go after Guts. He started treating him less like a soldier or slave. He began to care more about Guts than becoming king. This isn't conjecture either. I am stating everything plainly said in text in the manga. He loved Guts. He genuinely did, even if he didn't realize it.
He never treated him like a toy or slave. Never acted like a child. He went a bit nuts when Guts left him, because of grief. Had a little moment during the battle where he thought that if he couldn't have him, no one could. That was in the manga. Guts became so important to him that even during his darkest moment after activating the behelit, he still wished for Guts to go away so he wouldn't get sucked into whatever fresh hell the behelit was taking him to.
