I'm a classically trained musician but I have favorite metal, rock, and rap artists.
There are objective merits to some of their music. In fact there's probably more merit to most metal than there is to indie rock since metal often uses complicated time signatures and polyrhythms among other things.
But I'm guessing this is b8 really. 90% of this shit is just people with too much time on their hands manufacturing sectarian conflict into comfy generalized boxes so that they can give themself some semblance of identity and thus purpose or meaning.
By and large anyone can like anything. Though stereotypes are often based in some initial or current reality, they're far from encompassing.
