What are your thoughts on the fair and balanced reporting of Current Year man?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEALC1z3QG8
>>
>>71548154
I just find it so crazy that guys like him keep blaming shit like the Daily Mail for all this liberal backlash when it's guys like him doing the most damage
>>
Best of the Stewart/Colbert children imo. Trevor Noah is okay but his correspondents besides Jessica Williams are awful, and now Jessica Williams is gone so there's literally no reason to watch it. Larry Wilmore isn't funny whatsoever.
>>
>>71548193
He's a political satire comedy show host.
The Mail is a news paper you fucking idiot.
>>
>>71548562
And? Are you implying satire/comedy isn't influential?
>>
>>71548562
The libs think this is real journalism. It's Stewart's fault. He's the one that started pretending his show was a real news outlet. Dip shit millennials bought it hook, line, and sinker.
>>
>>71548657
I was under the impression the Stweart had said a few times he despaired over the fact people believe he was considered a reliable news outlet as opposed to someone making jokes about the news with a left-wing bias.
>>
>>71548154
Yawn desu

For someone who was apparently influenced by stuff like 'On The Hour' and 'The Day Today' he sure doesn't seem to get what made those shows funny.
>>
>>71548622
There's a difference between reporting news (i.e. giving people information about current events) and commenting on news other people have reported.

John Oliver doesn't "report" anything. He takes information other outlets have reported and makes a skit about it.
>>
>>71548736
He can despair it all he wants, doesn't change that's how people saw his show.
>>
>>71548905
that may serve as an excuse to being stupidly biased but doesn't make it right
>>
>>71548736
Yep I remember him saying that a couple times
>>
>>71548154
The editors put the 'punchable face' label over the wrong dude again.
>>
>>71548562
Have you ever seen this garbage? It's blatant propaganda with a laugh track. At the very best, it pretends to be comedy.
>>
He's a cuck. He lost the debate and the vote and just like a child can only resort to insults. Maybe it will make him feel better but it won't change anything.
>>
>>71548905
>>71548905
you're a moron, his show is important because it's long format news. I don't think people realize how difficult and important it is to be able to spend 20 minutes talking to your audience about a single issue so that they can actually learn the details and not just buzzword sound bites. he has to be silly to get people to pay attention for so long, it's a good thing
>>
>>71548154
>ad hominem
>ad hominem
>unfunny analogy
>ad hominem

gosh, what deep and insightful commentary
>>
>>71548989
Anyone can give their opinion on something they are vaguely familiar with. John Oliver does just that and he does it in a way that isn't funny and that only looks at half of the argument.

He deserves to be in jail in my opinion
>>

Oh wow, what a great post. I'm so glad you provided such a through response.

If you aren't treating him as a news outlet then he represents no issue whatsoever. Its a comedy show, a comedy show with a political theme.

If arguments for an ideology can't survive a comedian, perhaps they need to be strengthened.
>>
>>71549791
>but John Oliver is far more punch-able based on physical appearance alone
John Oliver was just projecting, you can clearly tell.
>>
>>71548154

I usually like him but he's barking up the wrong tree with the Brexit issue.

Comparing Leave voters to pro-trump and making out it's racist. Come on.

I voted out. We already have a government the we elected. The EU government is a beurocracy and it has no place making laws for us and makes a mockery of our democracy,
>>
>>71548154
I thought it started great and funny. Now it's absolute cringe and milennial sjw pandering.
The early segments, were it wasn't that much about politics actually were quite interesting (infrastructure, chicken farms, cigarettes in southeast asia...), but whenever it's about hard politics it's just memes. bad bad memes.
>>

Yes and he intends to persuade people politically by yelling out dumb strawman arguments and insulting people. His brand of authoritarianism is poisonous.

We're criticizing him for this.

Why is this so difficult for your brain to understand?
>>
>>71549767
You are literally advocating censorship of a comedy show because you disagree with him.

And no, I'm not a fan of his.

>Persuade
Here's where I disagree.
He isn't persuading anyone, he's just talking to folk who already agree with him.

I literally don't care if people who already agree with him continue to agree.

If your arguments are better, they should win the day.

If he is lying to millions, you should be able to convince people of that.

All I'm seeing is someone who has given up on trying to convince others their views are correct and so they retreat to a safe space online.

You are the epitome of a keyboard warrior who has never actually done anything to further the cause of the right and you actually serve the interests of people like Stewart by making us all look stupid.

Don't attack the man, that's a fools errand. Educate his audience. Else shut the fuck up and stop pretending you're part of the solution.

In case you were wondering, we are finished. I hope you have a long think about your priorities.
>>
>>71548736
He never seemed to hesitate to take advantage of his position though. I keep hearing all this talk about how he might come back to TV to "save the election". That thought in itself is scary, that people are so susceptible to media influence, that some basic cable funnyman is all it takes to turn the tides of political elections.

He's right though.

Leave leaders are already backpedaling on just about every claim they championed about what a Brexit would entail.

It's not even going to stop immigration because the EU already made it clear that free movement of workers would be a necessary prerequisite of entering the single market.

Brits were already independent and basically thumbing their nose to the EU at every turn while getting all the benefits of being in the union.

They effectively opted out of a system that was already egregiously in their favor.

Any deal they get at this point will be ostensibly inferior to the arrangement they previously had.

Britain did not sing the Schengen agreement and was not part "EU open borders for people thingy" so I don't even realize why this was even an issue in the whole brexit shit.
>>
>>71551190
I definitely think he could've broken down the arguments of the other side better and why they were voting. He's still right about Britain being stronger in than out though. There are a lot of factors to consider but it was effectively a watershed moment where Britain may ultimately find itself more isolated than it's ever been in a world of mass communication and transnational connectivity.

And people who felt left behind before are going to be even more hung out to dry.

>>

Maybe, but Europe is still closer and sports the largest economy collectively. Logistically, it makes sense to be part of the single market.

>>71551271
Shengen is a separate issue, it refers to open borders. We're talking about free movement of labor, which is something Britain did sign off on and will have to continue to being a part of to access the single market.

Simply put, they were in a stronger negotiating position when they were in the EU as a full fledged member. Now they're just another country that has no say whatsoever in EU policy.

Schengen agreement is exactly the "free movement of labour" contract in EU which Britain did not sign you fucking moron. Thus EU immigration and free movement of people did not affect Britain at all thus should not have been an issue when talking about EU and it's effects with immigration to the Britain.

The EU is actually quite fucked at the moment, Italy is pumping its banks with cash because they are about to collapse due to Brexit shocks.

Greece was already going to have a bailout in July which was around 3 billion Euros, this will go up and they will need more because of Brexit.

Spain is going to need a bailout soon due its own banks being hit.

Meanwhile we're already recovering. I know mainlanders (looking at you Germany and Lelgium) don't like to admit it, but they need us more than we need them and this is a fact.

>>71550993

He is wrong about literally every single thing he said, except maybe the pig fucker remark.

Farage said that he can't promise 350 million are going to the NHS because A) the actual figure is lower (he said so before the referendum), B) he has no political power, C) he wasn't part of the campaign and D) that wasn't even the actual promise made on the bus. It depends on whoever is in power to put the money there. That is not backpedalling.

The immigration issue means that the EU can't start shilling for migrant quotas, threatening with fines when a country doesn't do what its told, etc. Plus the constant talks about EU border police makes it clear UK is dodging a bullet from the future.

UK was the second country with highest net contribution of money, if that's getting "all the benefits of being in the union" then fuck it.

It is not so much how many things are going to be different from the current situation (which are actually enough on their own), but the direction the EU is going, which is towards an inevitable crash, unless EU leaders tone down on their globalist agenda.

Modern liberals like to blame conservatives for being uneducated, easily manipulated and racist xenophobe bigots, but fail to realize that a lot of the silent majority exists only exists due to the fact that modern liberals make people feel the need to be silent.

They've all placed themselves in an echo chamber where they're surrounded by people who think exactly like them. People who will mindlessly like their tweets regardless of what it says. They're so disconnected from real America that the only way they can possibly explain it is to toss out their buzzwords and call them uneducated hillbillies.

Where do you want it to come from? All media is biased one way or the other, an outlet won't release facts that work against its own agenda

>that's just the trajectory of human politics, economy and society.
Trajectory with plenty of downsides that are being actively ignored or even hidden by globalist shills, the EU leaders being at the vanguard of this political movement. It is being forced on people, instead of coming naturally. Brexit, the rise of Trump, the rise of all nationalist right-wing parties in Europe should be an obvious tell of this. Even people like Soros are starting to criticize Europe's immigration policies.

>Or are you saying we should revert to a stage of individual tribes?
Nation states are good enough.

No, you're even worse.

You're just a loser here who has no voice or influence on anything.

And you'll die alone and miserable.

Hello current year man

Give substantive arguments for your position. Merely stating that world government is modern does not prove your case.

>EU leaders being at the vanguard of this political movement

Not even. Asian nations for instance are embracing free trade spheres with little resistance and are basically on the fast track to integrating their economies and trade systems.

Forget the minor political spats and memes about them hating each other. While they occasionally blow hot air, they're coalescing like never before.

Meanwhile the West is likely to remain divided well into the next century.

Globalism implies that humans take no pride in their heritage. That is of course not true, hence the backlash from people who don't want refugees and immigrants to take over their home.

Sounds like the alt right.

But Great Britain is a democracy and PM understands the inherent dangers that come with ignoring the people. Which is why GB will honor the vote and leave the EU.

Why? They're as subjective as any other order.
>>
>>71552445

It is, basically.

Yanno, for every action there is an equal reaction or however that goes. The alt-right is a liberal creation. When you alienate a gigantic portion of Americans over a long enough period of time, that divide becomes grand canyon-esque. There's little gray area in either party at the moment, so moderates have to choose which sacrifices to make when voting. The real shame in American partisan politics, 2bh.
>>
>>71552445

The left and right are both sides of the same rusted old coin.

Both sides are clinging to ideologies that are fast going extinct as people wise up and enter a post ideology phase within the next century.

No they're not. Unless you honestly believe all the "buyer's remorse" garbage that liberal media outlets have been spewing.

We had buyers remorse the very next day.
Soon well have Scotland threatening tpotpo leave.
Engineered catastrophe after engineered catastrophe.
The new PM, whoever it will be, will tell us we cannot go ahead in the interest of national security.

Just wait.

This will happen, if there really are these secret puppet masters you folk scream about.

You should really trust polls more than media narratives.

The buyer's remorse narrative was not based on any facts whatsoever. Each outlet used like one of a few tweets they found on Twitter to support their claim.

The actual polling data suggests otherwise.

>He thinks asian countries are uniting
Jesus christ dude. Not only is this not true, but they are some of the most racist countries on Earth, at least in comparison with Western countries with similar quality of life. Globalists are AGAINST those countries, at least culturally. And besides it's a terrible example because the rise of China is precisely one of the most important reasons (indirectly) of the anti-globalist movement when it comes to the economy. The nationalist right hates the competition that fucks the lower classes, and the liberal left hates their explotaition of workers.
>>
>>71552508
Actually the alt right is a conservative creation. The narrative from the mainstream right was that you can't trust anyone, even elected officials in a representative democracy. It was only a matter of time before their supporters starting seeing enemies from all sides and corners that they effectively became tone-deaf "watch the world burn" anarchists.

But that's not true. Cameron is still the incumbent. Announcing one's resignation doesn't = gone effectively immediately.
>>
>>71552603
But polls were wrong about the outcome of two major elections. Why would I trust polls over my own experience with real people?
>>
>>71552500

They have a history. The institutions which prevail were fought for over the span of 1000 years in England and they've reached a calm equilibrium of democracy, equity, and stability.

Then some progressive planners come along and surrender the fundamental principle of English governance, parliamentary sovereignty, to an unelected body of continental officials.
>>
>>71552618

Polling methods are published with polls. Assuming no funny business, only a fool rejects facts.

Economic globalization doesn't require cultural unity.
>>
>>71552500
The fact that culture is artificial doesn't mean it doesn't exist or that it doesn't have a real effect on people's minds. The sense of in-group and out-group is inherent to the human mind, and we are decades away from even starting to consider the in-group as the entire humanity (which is the objective of globalists).

Globalism leads to dysfunctionality and loss of trust. Nationalism does not.
